Peter Pan: Platinum Edition DVD Press Release and Discussion
Possible theory of "Why Walt Made Peter Pan"
I'm not sure if this correct or not but if you watch the intro of Walt in "You Can Fly: Making Peter Pan", my guess is the footage might've came from "In Walt's Words: Why I made Peter Pan", again this just a theory. If somebody finds the full footage of Walt's intro then I'd appericate it alot.

Re: Possible theory of "Why Walt Made Peter Pan"
Are you talking the B&W scene with a pixie dust-covered Walt floating in midair and dusting the stuff off him? I think that's actually from An Adventure In the Magic Kingdom, a 1958 episode of Disneyland.Mason_Ireton wrote:I'm not sure if this correct or not but if you watch the intro of Walt in "You Can Fly: Making Peter Pan", my guess is the footage might've came from "In Walt's Words: Why I made Peter Pan", again this just a theory. Yeah, that's the scene I'm talking about, Walt and Tink hosting the program. but I've never heard of "An Adventure In the Magic Kingdom", hope it'll show up on "Your Host, Walt Disney". Man that sequence convinced me of it being related to "Why Walt Made Peter Pan" when I watched "You Can Fly: Making P.Pan" a couple days ago.

Re: Possible theory of "Why Walt Made Peter Pan"
"An Adventure In the Magic Kingdom" is not going to be on that DVD. Why? Because it will only feature episodes where Walt is actually host, as opposed to simply introducing the episode, which is what he does in "Adventure". He even says that that episode will have a hostess, in the form of Tinker Bell.Mason_Ireton wrote:Yeah, that's the scene I'm talking about, Walt and Tink hosting the program. but I've never heard of "An Adventure In the Magic Kingdom", hope it'll show up on "Your Host, Walt Disney". Bummer, that would've been one heck of a treat for the dvd, do you know where I might find a clip from the actual show? if not then it's okay.

Well, if you have the time and are willing to be a forum member, you can download the entire episode at Mousebits.com. Just make sure you have the right stuff installed. If not, you can install them. Just follows the instructions.Mason_Ireton wrote:Bummer, that would've been one heck of a treat for the dvd, do you know where I might find a clip from the actual show? if not then it's okay.

Woohoo! An all-new commentary from Canemaker! And Five whole featurettes/documentaries!!! And I can't wait for the virtual ride-thru!Dottie wrote:Audio commentary by John Canemaker

Given the different title for the German making-of, I'm hoping that means it's an all-new and much longer featurette than the old "You Can Fly" one we've had for years!

Wow! These bonus features are pretty awesome! Now I wish that they would port over the old Audio Commentary (I don't have the 2002 DVD
). Maybe I'll get it somewhere, or is it OOP?

I wanted to say something about the timing of this release. I have seen a lot of people complain about it on the 101 Dalmatians thread and so I wanted to put in a few words.
I am personally disappointed we will have to wait longer for 101 Dalamatians but I completely realize why they changed the dates and it even makes good sense to me. There is one word that can explain Peter Pan's release: Pirates! Pirates are a big thing right now in the world of Disney thanks to the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
At the Magic Kingdom right now there are two major pirates you can find outside of Pirates of the Caribbean in Adventureland: Captain Sparrow and Captain Hook. Disney is trying to promote Peter Pan by riding the wave of pirate popularity. The mere fact Peter Pan contains pirates will sell this DVD. It doesn't matter that the release dates of the Platinum DVDs are following an akward pattern. Disney needs to release Peter Pan immediately to let it hit its highest sales potential.
At Walt Disney World they are even kicking off a new "party" in the Magic Kingdom. They are having a big pirates and princesses party. When I looked at an ad for the upcoming events they had a boy dressed not as Captain Sparrow, but as Captain Hook. The series of evenings (that require a special entry fee like the Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, etc.) is conveniently set right before the release of Peter Pan.
In summary, releasing Peter Pan this March makes sense in light of the synergenistic (is that a word?) efforts of the company. They need to release their catalog titles with pirates while pirates are cool.
I know Tinker Bell will have her movie shortly and Peter Pan is meant to promote her film. But I think the idea is to initially capitalize on Captain Hook first and then push Tink.

While you make a good observation, I'm definitely inclined to think the release of this PE is intended to publicize the Tinker Bell Movie. If the film were to promote pirates, Hook would have a more prominent place on the cover art, and we would probably have a few pirate-related bonus features.DisneyFreak5282 wrote:Exactly, they are trying to promote the pirates (by March, everybody will have picke up the POTC 2 DVDs), and then by summer, when the PE sales of Peter Pan die down, POTC 3 will be released (it's coming July 2007, isn't it), and the Tinkerbell's movie will be released in the fall.

Is this the exact same stuff as on the US release? If so, then I'm really looking forward to the Peter Pan ride.Dottie wrote:A German, very reliable website has posted the German DVD and its contents!!! So, I hope you don't know that stuff yet:

I am certain Peter Pan is also intended to promote the Tinker Bell Movie. Disney is just trying to kill two birds with one stone. I think the timing of the release is because of the pirates. They can always adjust the release date of Tink's big picture.numba1lostboy wrote:While you make a good observation, I'm definitely inclined to think the release of this PE is intended to publicize the Tinker Bell Movie. Captain Hook is on the cover. It isn't necessary to display him prominently on the cover because everybody already knows he is part of the film. When they start putting tv commercials on, we will have a better idea of if I am correct.
And maybe we will get lucky: maybe they will rerelease Treasure Island and Blackbeard's' Ghost as SEs too! (But I have not heard any confirmation of this idea at all.)

Since Germany is always treated crappily, and the extras are always ported over from the US-DVDs this stuff certainly is going to be on the US PE. Maybe even more, like easter eggs etc.Big Disney Fan wrote:Is this the exact same stuff as on the US release? wow! thanks Barty, that preview was wicked! The Peter Pan DVD looks like its shaping up to be pretty darn good! I'm glad its got pushed forward to March as well.
I wonder why they got Paige O'Hara to do the 'lost' song; who was it supposed to be about, and who should have sung it originally??
Cinderella III looks promising as well!
