Well, did you use some kinda photomaker software to do this, like Photoshop or Adobe Photodeluxe?

Also, will all versions of the movie be on this set, even the severely truncated 1942 version and the Irwin Kostal-orchestrated version of the 1980s?

I used Paint for most of my DVDs. But with the Fantasia DVD I used Word Art, that I made in Microsoft PowerPoint, resized it in Mircrosoft Image-something-or-other, and put it on Paint.

I have the Irwin Kostal-orchestrated version on there, that's Disc 3. Sadly, that 1942 version isn't on there. I didn't even know there was a 1942 version. I know there was a 1946 version, but 1942 :?

The 1946 version is also known as the "General Release Version", which is the version we got for its 50th anniversary in 1990 with Fantasound. As for the 1942 version you know nothing of, well, here's a complete description from the Internet Movie Database:

"For its first wide release in January 1942, RKO had the film severely edited down to 81 minutes and re-issued it with the tagline "Fantasia will Amazia!" Practically all of the Deems Taylor interstitual footage was removed, as well as the entire "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" sequence. This chopped version of the film (which was usually booked in theatres as a "B" picture) did disastrous box-office and was pulled from distribution after a relatively short run."

Hope this helps. Do you or don't you have this version? BTW, you should improve the cover slightly, have at least one or two characters. I suggest using Mickey and Chernobog.

Actually, that's the 1942 version. Here's the description of the actual 1946 version:

"For its first re-release in 1946, the film was re-edited to a running time of 120 minutes. Tocatta and Fugue was restored to the film, but most of the interstitual footage was shortened, dubbed over, or removed. This cut of the film is the most common, and most subsequent versions of the film are based on this edit."

Apparently, there was a "severely truncated" version (although I thought it came out in 1941 already). Fantasia was in the short term very far from a financial success, and in an attempt to minimize the loss they tried to make Fantasia "easier to swallow" by cutting it down to a format similar to some of the later "package features". As far as I understand the commentaries and other "filler" materials and probably even the "Toccata and Fugue" piece were cut.

You just beat me to it. However, I guess there wouldn't really be any need to use one disc for a "lesser" version like this. They could for once include the shorter version using the "seamless branching" feature, that's supposedly one of things that can be done with DVD...

I love it Justin! Though I think you forgot to finish out the description for a featurette about Disney-Fan? It starts with 2000 or not, here I come, then goes straight to the next one. :P

Gotta love that comment about Alan. "Frighteningly sad". Classic.

Yup. Thanks. It takes quite a bit of work to read such a long documents and look for mistakes. :P

After a few minor changes here and there, it should be perfect now! :D

Which is one reason that Volume One of my uber-collector boxset series is still not done yet. I want everything absolutely perfect and uniform to my previous formats, lol.

And for the few and far between that come to this thread and care about such things, a progress report on how the Volume One Boxset looks right now:

Volume One: The Essentials - Milestones in Disney Animation: (25 discs)

-Fantasia: Six-Disc Legacy Edition (3 for the movie, 3 for bonus materials) - this is about 70% done

-Peter Pan: Four-Disc Legacy Edition (2 for the movie, 2 for bonus materials) - this is about 95% done

-The Fox and the Hound: Three-Disc Legacy Edition (2 for the movie, 1 for bonus materials) - this is about 45% done

-Beauty and the Beast: Eight-Disc Legacy Edition (4 for the movie, 4 for bonus materials) - this is about 95% done

-The Emperor's New Groove: Three-Disc Legacy Edition (2 for the movie, 1 for bonus materials) - this is about 40% done

-Walt Disney’s Legacy: Boxset Exclusive Bonus Disc
-Exclusive Documentary "Innovations in Animation" - 90 minutes

Fantasia SRP $69.99
Peter Pan SRP $49.99
The Fox and the Hound SRP $39.99
Beauty and the Beast SRP $89.99
The Emperor's New Groove $39.99
Bought Separately, combined SRP $290 (minus a few pennies)

Boxset SRP $249.99

The entire thing is already done in the shortform notes I have, it's the longform descriptive version that I'm known for that's taking me awhile. Volume Two, also a 25-disc set, is about 1/3 done in shortform, and I haven't even begun to do any longform writing for it. But, a quick preview...

Volume Two: Heroes and Legends (25 discs)

The Sword in the Stone: Three-Disc Legacy Edition (DAC 18 ) - 25% done in shortform
Robin Hood: Three-Disc Legacy Edition (DAC 21) - 25% done in shortform
The Black Cauldron: Ten-Disc Legacy Edition (DAC 25) - 75% done in shortform
Hercules: Four-Disc Legacy Edition (DAC 35) - 45% done in shortform
Mulan: Four-Disc Legacy Edition (DAC 36) - 45% done in shortform
Walt Disney’s Legacy: Bonus Disc
-Exclusive Documentary "Legends Given Life" - 90 minutes

Monday, February 5, 2007:
"Doctor Gulley and the Dalmatians of Doom" has become "Happy the Dancing Elf of Phrooflington" and I don't care anymore.

Wednesday, March 21, 2007:
I hope I will not regret returning to this thread later on and that some people have learned their lesson. I hope that any future posts after mine will not contain anything remotely similar to descriptions and names for bonus features, packaging, banner names, etc. From now on, if any of my new descriptions or featurettes are copied and slightly modified for someone else's set, I will pull out once again, and simply ignore that user's messages on the boards. It's not my thread, but I'll ask Sequel to once again ask for it to be closed, to further prevent more acts of plagiarism.

Can you maybe put up a cover of the four-disc Peter Pan DVD?
