Hi, I've been around on the forums for a month or so now, and just caught this thread today.

I actually go quite a way back with Disney. I was born in 1970, and live in the UK. I remember seeing films like The Aristocats, Robin Hood, Peter Pan and Song of the South in the cinema when I was small.

One thing I remember from my childhood is a wallchart which was available as a promotion from St. Ivel Cheesespreads, which was a map of Disneyland, and you could collect stickers from the cheesespread packets to complete your wallchart. I remember spending hours on that wallchart imagining visiting Disneyland. Also remember having a rather bizarre toy of Goofy's head on a piece of elastic, very strange. I remember also having various little PVC-like plastic figures of the Disney characters, which I think used to be available on checkouts at supermarkets back in the early 70's.

Of course, back then, a holiday to Disneyland was a bit of a luxury, and I never got the chance to go to Disneyland.

I remember Friday nights being the night that Walt's Disneyland TV show was shown on BBC 1, and often remember watching that.

Then 1977 came, and Disney was really wiped away by a little movie called Star Wars. I saw the occasional Disneytime special, a TV show where a famous host would introduce clips from Disney movies. Although to be honest, I don't remember seeing many of these movies full length back then, aside from the ones mentioned above.

I remember The Fox and the Hound and The Rescuers coming out mid-70's, and Pete's Dragon. I remember there being a Disney comic, Mickey Mouse comic I think, which ran serialised strips of the films, and I remember reading Cinderella, Pete's Dragon and The Rescuers in strip form, but I think my parents thought I'd grown out of Disney and I didn't get the chance to see them at the cinema. We were facing an onslaught of fantasy films at this time with the likes of Star Wars and Superman and all the imitators they spawned, and I never really bothered that much with Disney again then until......

Must have been 1993.

Someone at work, who I actually discovered to be a fairly unpleasant character later on, but actually did a huge favour by loaning me a copy of Beauty and the Beast on video. It really changed my view on animation.

I absolutely loved that movie, and I started buying up Disney DVD's. I remember going out and getting Beauty and the Beast straightaway myself. I think then I got Fantasia and Cinderella, both of which were coming to the end of their release windows, and I started buying the new video's as they were released. I was really disappointed to find that The Little Mermaid had been deleted and was nowhere to be found. I ended up buying a pirate copy, just to see it. So I'm delighted with the new DVD which is the best I've ever seen this film look, which is definitely my second favourite Disney movie, right after BATB.

In 1994 I actually got the chance to go to EuroDisney as it was still known then. It was done a bit on the cheap, a coach trip and ended up spending a day and a half in the Disneyland Park. At this time, all there was was the Disneyland Park, the hotels, and the beginnings of Disney Village. I went back this March and stayed at Sequoia Lodge hotel, and was delighted to see how much the park had grown.

As things progressed from BATB, I started buying all the films as they were released, and seeing some in the cinema. I saw The Lion King at the cinema, Hunchback, Tarzan and Pocahontas. All great movies.

I was straight on board with the initial Disney DVD releases, and generally buy most of the big releases at least of the animated classics. The only one's I'm missing now are 101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book (shush, though I do have copies to tide me over until the re-release).

Things kicked into overdrive for me this year when we went back to Disneyland Paris. We took my 6 year old niece for a week and stopped at Sequoia Lodge. Absolutely loved it, and it's ignited a passion for Disney collecting. I've started collecting snowglobes, soft , pins and statues. I'm particularly fond of the Armani statues, although they are expensive. I currently have an Ariel and a Belle, with a Briar Rose coming soon. I intend to buy more next year. Next year I'm going back to Disneyland Paris at the same time, and I'll be spending my birthday in Disneyland. We went the day after my birthday this year.

I think my favourite movies are the classic fairytales, I love the Princess stories - Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty etc. Although, I think Snow White is a bit dated (no doubt many of you will think that's heresy). I like the movie, and I can appreciate it's place in history, but I just find some aspects of it to be dated, but I suppose that's it's charm. Although I do think it's an incredible achievement for it's time, and it's easy to forget that it's about 70 years old.

This year has been a pretty big year for me as far as Disney goes. A trip to Disneyland Paris, really getting heavily into the Disney collecting (which came out of that trip), I went to see Beauty and the Beast on stage this summer, just received the new Little Mermaid DVD this week, and I've got the Princess on Ice show coming up in November. All of this is building to a return to Disneyland Paris next March, which I'm really thinking of making an annual trip now.

My name is Alex and I just turned 21. My earliest memory, let alone Disney memory, is being at Epcot when I was 3 meeting the Dreamfinder and Figment and being terrified because I thought Figment was real!!! I know I had seen some Disney films before this, but it was 1988, so not many of them were available on video yet. My first Disney movie that I saw in theaters was "The Little Mermaid" the year after and I remember being terrified when Ursula grew. I was clinging to my fathers arm for dear life. Our swiming pool was built that year and I went through a mermaid obsession(I would put a diving ring around my ankles to bind my legs together and put flippers on my feet and swim around mermaid style!) I think it was sometime around then the "Peter Pan" was re-released to theaters. My parents took me to it and I can't tell you enough how big of an impact this film had on me. For me, it felt like years before it came out on video, even though it was a few months. I had the story on casette with "You Can Fly" on it and I would play it and run around the room with my arms out! I vividly remember the day my mom called me down from my room and had something behind her back: "Peter Pan" on black diamond VHS! One of the happiest days of my childhood not spent in Disney World. By the time I was 8, it became a tradition to go to Disney World once a year. I remember "The Rescuers Down Under" and seeing it in theaters, but it didn't impact me like the following films: "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," and "The Lion King." Like every other kid in America, I was in love with all of these films. "Aladdin" in particular. I went as him for Halloween that year. Around this time, I had a good understanding of who Walt Disney was and what he had done, but I didn't yet understand that the current films weren't made by him. It was around this time that I began to learnn that these films had an order to them. I kept my Disney movies in a chest and I re-arranged them in chronological order. I became very intrigued with the fact that "Snow White" was the first and I had never even seen it! Around this time, that film was re-released to theaters and I fell in love with it. From that moment on, I decided that I wanted to own all of the Disney animated movies. As the years went on, my collection grew and grew and today, I can proudly say that I have all of the animated classics. Since "The Little Mermaid" came out in 1989, I have seen every Disney animated film in theaters. The greatest part of it all was that in 1992, my mom gave birth to a brother, whom I have been able to share my love (who am I kidding? Obsession) of Disney with. Around 1999, I became very interested in how all of this came to be, and have studied Walt Disney alot. He is my hero and I feel he is the type of person everyone should aspire to be. It was also around this time that my mom instilled in me a passion for Disney art. She bought me a production model of Mickey Mouse from the 1930's. I believe it was used for "The Brave Little Tailor" because of what Mickey is wearing. It is framed and the paper has become yellow over the years. Since then, my walls have accumulated hand painted cells(not from any movie and not those expensive cericels), framed pin sets, framed autographs, and limited lithographs. On this past trip to WDW for my 21st, my mom did something awesome for me. She bought me a set of 4 lithographs of the murals from the Haunted Mansion when the room is "actually stretching." They are life size like in the ride and limited to 250 each. They will be b-day and x-mas gifts for the next 2 years, so they arent' on my wall yet, but someday. I am in college now in the UW system and am currently a psychology major. However, I have re-shifted my focus. I am declaring myself a business major next semester, and in the fall, I plan on doing the Disney college program, through which I am hoping to eventually get a good job with the company. I would love to be in an upper management position at the park or do something for the studio in Clafornia. So there you have it. My Disney life in a nutshell.

I'm a 31 year old male from SOUTH Texas. I love Texas, but don't love being this far south, mainly because I'm an artist and can't find much work here, and because I'm single and don't find a lot of my type of girl here. I like "Disney girls," ha. Girls who are waaaay into Disney, especially ones that look like Tink or Ariel, ha. Anyways, I currently have a gig illustrating a graphic novel. I am a huge movie fanatic, and mainly love Disney and horror, like some other folks here have mentioned. I am more into traditional monsters than slashers though, but it's all good. I also love musicals and comedies, but movies in general really. You can find out all about my on my My Space page: http://www.myspace.com/slave2moonlight

Anyways, I have been a Disney fan for as long as I can remember. Practically obsessed with Disney (though I have other obsessions, but Disney is the biggest), despite the fact that the rest of my family is either not into it or just slightly into it. Not that they give me problems about it or anything. That's very rare. I guess my earliest Disney memories are of watching "Walt Disney Presents" on TV as a kid. Not certain that's what it was called at the time. Something like that. I remember watching that from when I was very young, all the way through. I had some Disney books and book and records, and that's really how I learned to draw. Especially this one coloring book I had as a kid with a lot of variety, and a book on Disney World that, on the inside cover, had a huge collage of all the Disney characters in it. I still do collages like that myself today! Love to see all the characters hanging together! Ever since then, I wanted to be a Disney animator. I remember seeing movies like Jungle Book, Pete's Dragon, and Robin Hood in theaters and they were faves of mine at the time. I still love all of them, of course. I used to watch the 70s Mickey Mouse Club on a little black and white TV, and even had hats and a membership certificate from it because they had some sort of event for it at our mall. When I was like 5 or 6, we took a road trip that included Disneyland in California. It's the only time I've been there, and I was disappointed in not meeting any characters, but I loved it anyway and came back with stuffed Mickey and Minnie (though I really wanted this Baloo they had, but I was forced to choose... I got Baloo at WDW YEARS later). I remember when we got the Disney Channel in the early 80s, when I was still very little. I was already a HUGE Disney fan, and that channel was incredible to me! I watched it like crazy! I remember that among the first things I saw there were Old Yeller, Pollyanna, and Mousterpiece theater. It was just so wonderful for me, being a fanatic and all. My family later started visiting Disney World every few years after my little sister was born. Those trips in the early 80s and late 90s were the best! Who Framed Roger Rabbit instantly became my favorite movie of all time, and I was so in love with Ariel that people were worried about me. I met Brandy Brown from the 90's MMC in a hotel once when we were both teens, and I was instantly in love with her. I worked at the Disney Store a few years ago as a holiday season cast member, but that wasn't the best experience ever, ha. They actually used me as a barker in front of the store, literally screaming out the sales all through my shift. I liked that I did have to stand there, but I had to leave the job early because I got a throat infection. Anyway, they wanted me to start saying it in Spanish, and I don't speak Spanish (partly on principle). I remember saving up to buy Roger Rabbit on VHS, and managing to get Bambi too (first, actually). Bought them both the day they came out, and then I become obsessed with Disney VHS, and later DVD. I remember when DuckTales premiered with its big pilot episode one day that I had stayed home from school because I was sick. That was the greatest day because I had become very into collecting Disney comics, so I was like the only guy my age who knew who Uncle Scrooge was and was clued in to the stuff in the show! The Disney Afternoon was just awesome, and I remember taking a trip to Disney World right when they were pushing it with a stage show (wish they'd had merchandise too). Well, I could probably go on, but I guess that's enough.

Sadly, when I was finishing up with college (which I guess I didn't really need to be an artist), that's around when Disney was losing interest in 2D. Although I never felt much confidence in applying to them anyway, because I didn't have any animation training. If they get back into traditional animation though, perhaps I'll apply someday after all. Anyway, I may move to California someday.

I have been a fan for the longest of years and it all started with a few fair princesses- Belle, Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, and of course Ariel. The first film I ever saw in the theatres was that of Beauty and the Beast. I was barely 1 year old and loved it, but was sort of scared of the Beast. That was the one that introduced me to Disney. The second film- enrapped me. My second film ever to see in the theatres was the 1993 re-release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I was 3 years old and absolutley entralled with the whole concept. The next year, I got my second video tape- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! I watched that movie so many times, that right now, I can barely even see the picture. My first video however was Cinderella. The beautiful story is still my second favorite Disney movie and I cannot wait until October 2005 :D ! In the next few years, I would go over my Grammy's house and watch tons of Disney videos including Sleeping Beauty. I loved the music, the romance, the action, and the Villain  , but unfortunatley was never able to buy the Video, but I do have the DVD!! Finally, my favorite Disney movie of all time has a lovely little mermaid named Ariel. 1989 was to far ahead of my time to see The Little Mermaid in its original release, but 1997 brought the re-release and how wonderful was that. Before 1997 I had watched my mom's friend Louise's tape for years and finally saw it in the big screen. Then in 1998, I got it on tape! And that is my Disney story.
I love looking back on our stories. October 30, 2004. Wow. That is quite a while back. I'm surprised I even made it that long here.

Hi. I'm 18 years old, and I'm from Holland (or The Netherlands, whatever you prefer).
The first picture I ever saw in the cinemas was Beauty and the Beast. Now I don't recollect anything of that trip. But supposedly the scene in which the Beast steps into the light didn't scare me on a huge cinema screen, but it frightened me to death when I saw it on video.
The second one was Aladdin, and the third one was The Lion King.
It was luck that Disney was releasing all of their classics on video, so my mom bought a lot of them for me and my brother, and especially The Lion King was played a lot.
That was over when I turned twelve. I started to think Disney was childish, and didn't bother to watch them anymore. That was, of course, until a few years ago.
Now, I have some of the classics on DVD (I still need most of them) and I am trying to complete this collection.

Well ive been around for a couple of weeks now but I just noticed this forum.

My real name is Timothy but most call me Tim or Timo. I was born in 1987 so that makes me 19 years old now. I was born in The Netherlands but have lived prety much all over Europe. I have always been a Disney fan my whole life. My first disney memorie is when I was tiny and watching The Lady and the Tramp on VHs. My parents always dropped me infront of the television with a Disney movie to keep me quiet, and it worked. My first time in a Disney park was when EuroDisney (Now Disneyland Resort Paris (god this park has had many name changes!)) had just pend a week or two. I can not remember much but there are glimpses here and there that allow me to treasure this memorie. My ultimate goal is to be running EuroDisney one day or be in the animation and story developing department in Burbank. "Believing is just the beginning" right?

My Fave Disney movie is The Little Mermaid cause of the emotional depth of the movie. My second fave is Beaty and the Beast because of that amazing intro! When the movie opens you see the castle and that deer, its amazing. Anyway I hate Dreamworks movies! Shrek was good but the rest was just JUNK! *shudders*

LOL. I haven't time to read all 45 pages in this topic, at least at the moment, so I have no idea if I'm the oldest person here. I was born in December of 1955; I'll let you do the math.

Been watching Disney since I was old enough to stay up until 8:30, when WALT DISNEY'S WONDERFUL WORLD OF COLOR ended, which may surprise people was probably not until I was eight or so; kids were sent to bed a lot earlier than! I remember when the news of Walt's death was on the news; how I cried and missed him doing the introductions on the series.

The first Disney movie I definitely *remember* seeing in a theatre was THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA; but probably the first one I *did* see was 101 DALMATIANS, because I have the original frame puzzles that Disney put out from that time. (I may have seen SWORD IN THE STONE and BIG RED in the theatre, too, but I mainly remember them from showing on the TV series.) I saw my first Disney movies in an old movie house called the Majestic in Providence, RI, which was originally a vaudeville house and still had the red velvet curtain that opened when the movie started. It was so neat! Also the lines around both sides of the building when MARY POPPINS opened.

My favorite Disney animated films are LADY AND THE TRAMP and 101 DALMATIANS. I am a big fan of "real" animation and although the Pixar/computer generated stuff is okay, I don't think it has the same flavor. Live action...wow. I don't think I can choose. Just a few of them are OLD YELLER, POLLYANNA, BIG RED, THREE LIVES OF THOMASINA, MOON-SPINNERS, and ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN. My favorite stories from the TV series were GALLEGHER and SCARECROW OF ROMNEY MARSH. I also loved the cool animal stories they used to have on the TV program, like "Flash the Teenage Otter," "Greta the Misfit Greyhound," "Run, Appaloosa, Run," and wish Disney would get off their hind end and release those.

I had the pleasure of seeing It's a Small World and Progressland (The Carousel of Progress) at the 1964 World's Fair and rode them later at Disneyland/Disney World. Drove cross-country with my folks twice in 1975 and 1978 and we went to Disneyland both times. Went to Disney World originally when only Magic Kingdom was open (don't remember the year), then again in 1983, 1987 and 1989. Have a house now and no money to go to Disney World!

Hey there, I just joined less than 24 hours ago but haven't yet taken the time out for any formal introductions, so here goes:

21 years old, UK resident, and not really with that huge a deal to my own 'Disney Story'. The company, along with all the various features and creatures that it entails, has been a massive part of my life since as far as back as I can remember. I grew up with the standard Disney classics, attended a screenings of Oliver and Company, the Little Mermaid, Aladdin, the Lion King, Pocahontas and the Hunchback of Notre Dame upon their initial releases (along with re-releases of the Rescuers, the Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians and the Fox and the Hound), went to Euro Disney soon after it opened, and hoarded pretty much every Disney video which was issued in the early-to-mid nineties. Like most precocious kids, I went through a phase upon hitting my teens in which all things Disney were regarded as uncool and unworthy of my viewing pleasure...blah, blah, blah...but glad to say I was over that by the age of 17, and that in recent years my love of Disney has been renewed with more fervour than ever. I do, however, regret a lot of the decisions which the company, as it stands, has made of late, such as the decision to abandon 2D animation and hitch a ride upon the 3D bandwagon, and their compulsion to drag out their timeless and not-so-timeless classics alike with all that direct-to-video fodder...but those things for another time, another discussion thread. I didn't come here to stir up trouble.

The Disney character to whom I've dedicated the most time, money and collecting energy is easily Donald Duck, whom I firmly regard as the single greatest fictional character ever to receive creation, whilst Modern Inventions is one of the finest examples of film-making I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. If I were to be locked away in a cellar for half a century or so, and could only have a TV set and five or six films down there to keep me company, that short, despite its skimpy length, would stand a good chance of being among them. As my user name might indicate, I'm also something of a Three Caballeros fangirl, a delightful (if disjointed) little feature film which I'd known about for yonks but only relatively recently had a chance to see for myself. I'm always on the look-out for memorabelia featuring Jose/Joe Carioca, Panchito and the Aracuan Bird to sit alongside my ever-increaing line-up of Donald items, but aside from a couple of postcards with Donald and Jose, my search has been largely fruitless.

Some of my other favourite Disney films include Bambi and Fantasia, though as things go I like devoting my attention to the 'underdogs' of Disney's cannon...hence, the Fox and the Hound and the Hunchback of Notre Dame also have a place up there in my heart with the best of them (by contrast, I'm less enthusiastic about some of the key figures in Disney's so-called Renaissance of the early-90s - oh sure, I totally respect the Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast as exemplary pieces of animated film-making, but if you're looking for Aladdin or Lion King fandom...look elsewhere :P ). The Fox and the Hound is one of the very few films, Disney or no, to have me in tears every time I see it, but then again I'm a real sucker for that sort of thing. As for the Hunchback of Notre Dame...well I'm speechless. When I first saw it, it disturbed me enough to be written off as one my least favourites. In the summer just-gone-by, I noted that a ten-year-gap had passed and decided to give it another chance. So I rented the DVD and was blown away. Beautiful animation, lovely songs (A Guy Like You notwithstanding :P ) and undoubtedly the darkest and most mature storyline that Disney have tackled since...well, Pinocchio. Sure, it's not overtly loyal to Hugo's novel, particularly in its conclusion, but all things considered I find it hard to see how it could have been any darker. And then there was Judge Claude Frollo...he truly sent shivers rolling down my spine. Brilliant. I love him. He makes all other Disney villians look like pretending ninnies.

Other than Hades, that is, for whom I also have nothing but respect and admiration. So evil and yet so charismatic...Hercules is another one of my personal favourites, mainly on his account, but also because the animation and voice-work rock, and Megara is one of the most engaging and courageous Disney heroines you'll find.

Well, I guess I should stop rambling. I've been checking in at UD regularly as a place to read objective Disney DVD reviews, but only recently decided to check out the forums. They seem promising, so I've decided to stay. (I do, however, hope to keep my own Disney DVD collection minimalistic, with space only reserved for my favourite favourites, but I doubt that approach will work out in practice :D )

Not much else to say. Picked up the Bob Thomas Walt Disney biography and hope to start reading it soon, but ta ta for now, y'all.

PS: Oh yes, and I love 101 Dalmatians. Can't tell you how miffed I was when Disney decided to delay its Platimum Edition release by at least a year. Oh well, as long as the Disney Store promise to stock a nice Sgt. Tibbs plushie when ever it is released, I can hold on. 8)

Well I mite as well say my Disney story lol.

okay well as long as I can remember I've always enjoyed Disney Movies. I was born in November of 1988 and about 2 years later I slit the top of my left eyebrow open from an accident. I was then hospitalized for about two weeks. But during my stay at the hospital while lying in the hospital bed I actually remember watching The Little Mermaid on the tv they had in there. It was my first Disney movie I had ever seen, and I remember really enjoying it because it had put me in a happier mood because I was so miserable in the hospital. Then when I was like around 3 or something, I was walking around a store with my mom and I recognized the characters from The Little Mermaid on the vhs they had. My mom had bought it because I guess my older sister had really liked this movie aswell and she is 6 years older then me(she saw it in the theater back in 89'). Anyways my mom had noticed that I really enjoyed this movie so she must have notice that I wasnt a baby anymore but a small toddler and I was able to sit and watch movies and enjoy them. So my first Disney movie in the theater was Beauty and the Beast. I was only 3 years old and I remember watching it in the theater(I was exactly 3 years old because it had opened in November of 91'). After that my mom had taken me to see every Disney Movie that came out. From Beauty and the Beast all the way up to The Emperors New Groove. I was like 11 or 12 when that came out and that was the last traditional 2-D Disney Film I had seen in the theater. I lost my interest in Disney movies for a while, I no longer had any of my VHS tapes because my mom had given them to my cousins(and I had almost all of them). Through out my life we had frequent trips to Disneyland since I only live about an hour and half away. And I still enjoyed that. It was late 2001 and my mom had bought Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on DVD, now I didnt even begin to think of getting any Disney movies again, but then in about like...2003 Lilo and Stitch had come on the Disney Channel, I saw it and I really really liked it. So I bought the DVD. So for my Disney DVD's I only had Snow White and Lilo and Stitch. I had a couple Pixar films also like A Bug's Life and Finding Nemo. Anyways it wasnt until last year exactly November 2005. In November I had my 17th Birthday, since I usually get money for my birthday I went out to go shopping. I then noticed the Aladdin PE and Alice in Wonderland ME. I rememberd how much I enjoyed these movies when I was a kid so I decided to purchase them. Once I watched them I was so amazed and I really enjoyed them! I had four Disney DVD's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lilo and Stitch, Aladdin, and Alice in Wonderland. And then I said to my best friend.."Im going to collect every Disney Animated Classic on DVD." I was so excited I instantly made an eBay account to buy Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid and start collecting them. So here I am today in November of 2006 only 3 days from my 18th birthday, and since I had started my collection I have went from only 4 Disney movies to 29 Disney movies. And Ive enjoyed every single one of them as much as I did when I was a kid. Im so happy that Aladdin and Alice in Wonderland resparked my interest in Walt Disney animated features.
