This 60-minute program traces the influences on Walt Disney in his formative years. Included are rare titles such as The Chinaman (1920), Fishing (1921), And Mother Gooseland (1924) from Fleischer's Out Of The Inkwell series, Felix All Puzzled (1924), Animal Olympics (1924) from Paul Terry's Aesop's Fables; as well as examples of Disney's Kansas City period such as Newman's Laugh-O-Grams (1920), Puss And Boots (1922), Alice Chops The Suey (1925), and Alice Solve The Puzzle (1925) from His Alice Comedies series.

Actually, you can order these DVDs at Amazon.com as well. You're still buying directly from Inkwell Images, but you'll use Amazon's payment system if you'd rather trust that than use PayPal.

Hmm, it seems that Inkwell only put one of each up for sale at Amazon, and since I ordered them yesterday, they are now gone...

Perhaps they will reappear later...

Are these legitimate releases or some kind of bootlegs?

They will be legitimate, as the shorts are long since in the Public Domain. Being Public Domain, it is likey the quality will not be that good - basically no company wants to pay to restore a PD film as any other company could just copy the transfer and release it themselves (although things can be done to stop this - such as slightly altering the print to copyright the restoration or watermarking the restoration print).

However, some companies do release top of the range PD titles (such as Kino who release a lot of silent movies). And poor quality or not, it may be your only chance to see some of these cartoons.

I would strongly urge all of you to place your orders directly through Inkwell Images and support what Ray Pointer is doing as these dvd's are generally limited to a specialized market and the sales of every single dvd will eventually account for the production costs, etc which Ray has invested out of his own pocket to bring us these vintage series simply for his and our love of classic animation. He has done a fantastic job with the Fleischer Inkwell series to date and is just what we classic animation fans need more of in the world - a man not only devoted to the art, but also in a position to make it accessible. The more sales generated, the more product will be released. The quality presented on these dvd's is not of the usual public domain source, unlike many generic "Goodtimes" or "Image" p.d. compilations released merely to produce a quick profit, Ray actually cares about these projects and is producing them based on follow-up requests by us - the fans - who have appreciated what he's brought us with the fleischer series so far. You should have no concerns regarding the legitimacy of these products or the integrity of the website - It's completely safe and I have all of my pre-orders in for the Ko-Ko series, the second and third Inkwell volumes and both the Alice comedies and the Before Walt program.
