I found a website of the new platinum edition screencaps. Compare them if you like.

the colors are more accurate, but quite bright in some scenes.

its not that the TV or any colors are not set to the correct way, on default thats how its supposed to come out, your not really supposed to mess with it until you get the colors you want, its just how the restoration is. If it came to the point where you have to correct the tv or dvd player default setting your not watching it the way its supposed to be. But yeah cuz if my settings were to bright shouldnt the limited issue have come out the same way? But yeah they did change the colors, I guess thats what the directors intended it too be.

yea..i dont think fixing the tv setting would be such a good idea.if i do that, itll mess up the sleeping beauty and pocahontas video which i always use to refer for setting up the contrast, brightness, tint, color etc because their color is always accurate.even when watching it on my computer the tail does look striking green.i do'nt really care about that. i'm just surprised to see the shell turns green themselves.perhaps to make it look more outstanding and colorful?

I was wondering, why do you guys think they changed Ariel's tail color?

Ariel-the color, not the character

Post by Disney Duster »

I don't think they deliberately changed Ariel's tail color, but rather brightened it, and the brightness brought out the green somehow. But actually, Disney's color lab developed a new blue-green color for her tail, and named the new color Ariel. So this apparent color change upsets me.

I would mostly go with Disney changing the color. Going from teal bluish green aquaish, to green...bright green. It is definately not the same color.

hmm I dunno why they would change the color, it doesnt really bother me, but it kinda annoys me when the tail color changes is extremly noticable, in most scenes its brighter or darker green, then in like very small shots its the same color as the limited issue(teal kinda color), then sometimes its way off, which is especially noticable in the Part of Your World Reprise scene when shes singing to Eric, yeah thats probably the most drastic tail color change its almost like a grayish blue. But yeah for the most part the restoration looks pretty good, except for Ariels tail color changes lol.

Oh, a lot of people were saying that Vanessa's color changed, but I remember watching the vhs lately and that color change is completely normal. Her hair does change from brown to darker brwon to black.

heh i guess im more upset about the color changes in the little mermaid than either cinderella or beauty and the beast. i dunno why. i just like to see the original tail color. omg, is this saying i love this movie? maybe cause i've seen it a zillionth time i've grown immune to any feeling while watching it.

I also think that the restoration looks beautiful but they should have kept Ariel's original tail color which is the "Ariel Green". :(

Without a doubt the restoration is beautiful, it's the color changes that suck.

Can we PLEASE go 1 day without talking about The Little Mermaid. Sure, it's a good movie, but give it a rest already.

BTW The transfer looks better when compared to the Limited Edition. There, I said it.

Umm...this is kinda a Little Mermaid thread, it's not like we went off-topic or anything. Plus, this thread's not brand new or anything.

Can you guys please stop telling us to stop writing about The Little Mermaid. If you have nothing to say about the movie, simply don't write. It's getting annoying.

Same can be said for people who continually say the same thing in TLM threads. "The movie's great" "The transfer is beautiful" "I love this movie", to name a few. We heard it the first five hundred times.
