Best Non-Disney Animation

Post by slash »

My vote goes for The Iron Giant.

It had everything going for it: great animation, storyline, and emotions.

What is your favorite non-Disney cartoon (doesn't have to be specific to US either)?

I really like Shrek :)

I also remember when I was little I loved The Swan Princess, but now I don't even remember what that was about

Iron Giant, Akira, Secret of NIMH, Heavy Metal.

I'll add Spirited Away as well, forgot about that, great movie.

I suppose I'd have to repeat some of what's already been stated:

The Iron Giant
Spirited Away
Kiki's Delivery Service

and I'll add...

Chicken Run, perhaps atop the previous three.

I haven't seen the theatrical movies, but the half-hour Peanuts specials are excellent.

the swan princess is basically swan lake, where odette(the princess) is turned into a swan by a sorcerer and a prince has to help turn her back...somthing like that :D

Not from a story standpoint, but from a "Oh my gosh this practically looks real" standpoint, it's Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within

As far as story and traditonal 2D animation, my hat's off to The Prince of Egypt and Spirit.

As far as mainstream 2d feature animation, I'd have to go with one of Don Bluth's films..

I'd say:

Secret of Nimh | Shrek | Price of Egypt | Ghost in the Machine | Perfect Blue | An American Tale

My votes would go to Spirited Away, Shrek, Ghost in the Shell, Chicken Run...

...and Nightmare Before Xmas unless you count that as Disney (which I guess it is...).
