Orlando Bloom being signed for it shouldn't be news to anyone, but if this is accurate we now have a start date for production. If that is indeed true, I would assume that the release date will be targeted as summer, 2006, most likely the early July slot as the original had this year.Orlando Bloom, who is signed to shoot Pirates of the Caribbean 2 in January 2005, walked away from the project with his character Legolas' bow and arrow.

Pirates of the Caribbean II Shoots in January 2005
With Orlando Bloom and fellow cast members now on a massive publicity tour for The Return of the King, USA Today slipped in this interesting tidbit in their coverage of the US premire.

He was in Lord of the Rings???? I don't remember him.
Anyway, Keira Knightley had better be in this one. I hope the storyline is something along the lines of them preparing for their wedding, until Jack returns and the celebration is disrupted because the curse is back on. OOH! somehow Will is affected by the curse because of his father!
Can't wait for Pirates of the Caribbean: Return of the Black Pearl.
Too bad shooting doesn't begin until 2005.

Its great that the same cast will be back - for me, thats a guarantee it won't suck. However, I think that in order for it to be better than the first, it will need an even better story.
The only kink I see with the sequel is that basically, Will has become a pirate, and he can't take Elizabeth on the ships with him because women are bad luck. It'll be interesting to see how their relationship works out.

IMDb is currently listing this as slated for 2005. Something's up here -- either they're going to do this REALLY fast or either IMDb or USA Today is wrong. I don't see how they can start in January 2005 and hope to have it done by the summer slot, which is obviously what they're targeting.
No offense to the people who posted these ideas, but I really hope they come up with something more original than using the curse again. And Will would *never* refuse to take Elizabeth if he "became" a pirate, he loves her too much, and besides, if he did that he'd be a real jerk.
I do hope it involves Boostrap Bill, though. As he was undead when the pirates left him at the bottom of the sea, all he would have to do would be somehow unstrap the bomb from himself and swim to shore. Also, I noticed that we're never told what happened to Barbosa's crew after Commadore Norrington and his men claim victory. Sequel setup?

Good point about Bootstrap Bill...never thought about that.Jake Lipson wrote:

As for the crew, I guess I just assumed that, as Pirates, they were justly hanged. Afterall, they did their fair share of killing so it would hardly be an issue to sentence them all to death.

True. That's likely, but it's just as likely that, say, they were going to be hanged after Jack was and were put in jail until then but escaped somehow or something, just so (for story reasons) they could be in the sequel.
Also, notice how, when the crew is climbing aboard Norrignton's ship, being underwater has absolutely no effect on their state whatsoever, another fact to support the Bootstrap idea. And since they left that open, I'd assume they'll deal with it eventually, weather it be in the second or third or some other film, however many there end up being.

It's not that far-fetched. The original was shooting in December 2002, to be released in July 2003. Many movies are shooting 6 months before they are released.Jake Lipson wrote:IMDb is currently listing this as slated for 2005. No, for two reasons.SNERWW22785 wrote:True. Many movies with film at the beginning of the year aim for an end-of-the-year release. Could POC II be the Studios big Thanksgiving/Christmas film in 2005?
1) Pirates of the Caribbean is by definition a summer blockbuster and it would work best in the summer. See, per example, The Matrix Revolutions, a bona-fide summer blockbuster, released in November. It did well but fell fast. It might have done a bit better in the summer, 2004 timeslot.
2) The final movie under Pixar's current deal with Disney, Cars, is aiming for a holiday season 2005 release date. This could be done in, say, November and Pirates in December, but I doubt Disney would want to put those out so close together, seeing as they both have extrodinary holding power. Even this summer there was a little gap between the late-May Finding Nemo release and early-to-mid-July Pirates of the Caribbean.

At any rate, this is one I'm really looking forward to.
It had the winning formula:
P+D (GC)x3 + CG = TS
(Pirates + Disney x 3 Good cast members + cute girl = Top stuff)
If they can repeat this in the sequel (but maybe add a few more CGs), then we are on to a winning franchise. The fact that most of the original cast and crew are back is very encouraging.

I think potc 2 could hold it's own against star wars and indy 4.
people are gonna see star wars no matter what just to watch it conclude {sort of}.
i am still not totally sold on the idea of a 60 year old harrison ford trying to be indiana jones in the 1950's.
for potc to be successful it must be take a page from indiana jones and branch out. dont be predictable with the "curse" plot, have it be a brand new adventure. potc and indy have a lot in common as throw back movies that never really take themselves too seriously yet are awesome movies.
the best thing would probably be to film 2 and 3 at the same time (the idea has been tossed around in rumors) and then go for a summer christmas release in 2005.
