Walt Disney Treasures
For abroad releases of the Walt Disney Treasures, how come only the cartoon releases of Waves 1 and 3 (Both Mickey In Color sets, Silly Symphonies 1 and Donald 1) were released abroad? How come Mickey In B/W, Goofy, Pluto, Donald 2 and Rarities were not released?

Cos Disney over here wanted to "test the waters" and see if
Australians wanted to buy Disney Treasures.
And No, they didn't.
Don't forget, our Disney Stores went out of business over 7 years ago
cos Australians are idiots and didn't appreciate the brand.
So thats why the Treasures came out. To see how they'd go.
And since there was no big demand for anymore, they didn't release the rest.
I just get mine from the states. They're fun.
No one I show them to cares, but I do, and thats all that matters.

That happened in Australia too? All the Disney stores in Germany closed down as well, and the WDTs didn't sell well at all, so they stopped those too.
But now this year we're gonna get two more treasures!! I think it's complete Donald II, and Complete Pluto I. Isn't that cool? They won't be selling well, but at least the people who like the WDTs will get more of them.

I guess the "small world syndrome" might have quite a bit to do with it - in this age of DVD and the internet those of us, anywhere in the world, who were really interested in the Treasures would get them from R1 as soon as we could. Besides, although they're definitely "great", they aren't really "big" titles...

I would think that if Donald II were to be released in Germany and Japan, for obvious reasons, it would be edited to remove certain war shorts, depending on who the target country is. What I mean is, German releases of Donald II would be without Der Fuehrer's Face, while Japanese releases would not feature Commando Duck. I think these shorts would probably be deleted, from those releases for obvious reasons.

I knew the Treasures were for everyone, not just kids. What I meant by Der Fuehrer's Face not being included wasn't so much children, as the Germans being offended, which was specifically what the cartoon was meant to do. So all I'm saying is that if Donald II were actually released in Germany, I wouldn't be surprised if Fuehrer was cut. Same goes with Commando Duck if Donald II was released in Japan.Dottie wrote:In fact there are rumours that Donald II will actually feature The Fuehrer's face. It is available on youtube anyway, and the Treasures are not meant to be for kids, more for adult viewers. But still the running time will be shorter which means some of the cartoons are ging to be cut.

Of course, I know what you meant. But those people who buy these know what to expect and everyone who is interested at least a bit on classic cartoon knows Der Fuehrer's Face. They would not be offended, actually interested since it's an important document of history.Big Disney Fan wrote:I knew the Treasures were for everyone, not just kids. But I think in the end, although those rumours exist, it will be cut.

No, I don't think so. At least not someone who is reasonable. A lot of work has been done over the last 50 years to show us what went wrong in the past and that it'll never happen again. But people who buy the Treasures are actually intersted in that stuff, since it's considered more a historical document than an offence. It is iteresting to see that countries like the US and others had propaganda as well.

I guess it would make sense to release Donald II with Pluto I, since not only are more people familiar with him than all those characters seen on the Rarities DVD, but then maybe there will be international releases of Pluto II and Symphonies II (the two cartoon DVD sets coming in Wave 6).Dottie wrote:It'll be Pluto I guess. More kiddie like.Big Disney Fan wrote:Which one do you think will be released with Donald II internationally, Pluto I or Rarities?
As for Der Fuehrer's Face, I guess I understand what you're talking about. People wouldn't mind seeing things in historic context. And in fact, I think there was this one Japanese laserdisc out there containing several Donald shorts, one of them being COMMANDO DUCK! Imagine that. I'll bet that's probably gonna be cut back as well, though.
BTW, do you know when these DVD will come out, if they do?

Are you referring simply to the effect of the PAL speed-up? The shorter runtime of a PAL version does not necessarily mean it's cut. It is shown 25 fps in stead of 24 fps, as in NTSC and theatres.Dottie wrote:But still the running time will be shorter which means some of the cartoons are ging to be cut.
