Hehe, I always loved the theme song. One of Lee Holdridge's best, and he contributed to the show's score as well. Great sweeping orchestral music.

It certainly started off great, although it lost all momentum later on.

Yeah, I like to pretend the third season never existed (save for the excellent premiere, "Though Lovers Be Lost"). The first season was its strongest, and the second was somewhat...well not disappointing, but I didn't quite enjoy it as much as I did the first.

Wow, I just realized that this is coming out, soon. I am hoping to be able to pick this up at a decent price. The Golden Girls: The Complete Seventh and Final Season comes out on this date, and is first and most important on my list!

Yeah, I been waiting to watch BATB: The Live Action Series since I never seen the show and heard that it was underrated and that CBS didn't respect this series. CBS was to blame since they didn't listen to their fans to bring back the series. CBS also put BATB at the hardest time slot on Friday at 8:00 p.m. I wonder why BATB did so bad in the ratings since Dallas started after BATB. I guess BATB has at least two seasons if I'm correct. Has anyone seen this show???

Because even Dallas wasn't doing too good in the ratings, and CBS itself wasn't as high in the ratings as it used to be.

There are two *true* seasons, while the abbreviated third season is generally best left forgotten, save for the powerful two-hour premiere "Though Lovers Be Lost"...and looking back, I said that already earlier in this thread! :lol:

Anyways, I read the DVD review over at DVDTalk, and I'm so excited to see two of my favorite episodes were indeed from Season One! "Nor Iron Bars A Cage" and "Promises of Someday"!!! The last time I saw these episodes (or any episodes on TV) was the summer of 2001 when they were still airing at midnight on The Hallmark Channel (which back then only ran from 10 pm to 10 am since our cable provider shared the channel with a local religious one. Since then, the religious channel has taken over those 12 hours, so we haven't had Hallmark for about 5 years.)

More news on the "Beauty and the Beast" front...

There will be a new set, "Beauty and the Beast": The Complete Series, coming September 30 (SRP $89.99). TVShowsonDVD already announced it as coming, but now have additional details:

-Packaging art (not final)

Image

-NEW extras will be exclusive to the "Complete Series" set. The original DVDs for Seasons 1 and 3 are devoid of extras, while Season 2 has six episode introductions with Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman.

I'm excited for the new extras (since I never had a chance to get Seasons 2 or 3) but I feel bad for fans who already have the three seasons and want the extras. So...

Way to go, Paramount, adding new extras for the complete series DVD! :D :pink:

And...

Way to go, Paramount. You're adding new extras for the complete series DVD...even if some fans already bought the individual seasons. :roll: :headshake:

The Amazon Listing lists it as a 16 disc set, which likely means that they will be the same 15 DVDs already in the season sets (6/6/3) and a bonus disc with the new features (documentaries? deleted scenes? tv spots?). I hope it's an actual bonus DVD, and not just the series DVDs with the recently-reissued soundtrack CD (mainly because I have the soundtrack CD).

Wow, this show's history reminds me of Jericho - Huge cult show, large following, fans fought to get it back, and now they're both getting Complete Series sets with new extras. Thanks, Paramount! :x

Sorry, off-topic but I thought it was interesting, haha. :)

Probably of no concern to anyone else, but I was perusing through the new TV Guide (the one with the Housewives on the cover and Dana Delany looking so goddamn adorable) when I saw a 1/3-page ad for the Complete Series set of "Beauty and the Beast" that's being released this coming Tuesday.

Even though TVShowsonDVD posted about it months ago, details about the extras have never been officially announced (to my knowledge) and have been extremely hard to come by. However, once the TV Guide ad appeared and I did some searching on google, I found more details about what's on Disc 16 (the bonus disc):
  • Disc #16 -- Beauty and the Beast: Bonus Disc (listing from Amazon.ca)

    * Vincent's Quest (Interactive Trivia) - - Take an interactive journey with Vincent as he navigates the tunnels below Central Park in his quest to rescue Catherine. (description from DVDEmpire)

    * Original Love Letters
    o Masques
    o The Beast Within
    o Nor Iron Bars a Cage
    o Song of Orpheus

    * Newly Reconstructed Love Letters
    o Once Upon a Time in the City of New York
    o Terrible Savior
    o Siege
    o No Way Down
    o Masques
    o The Beast Within
    o Nor Iron Bars a Cage
    o Song of Orpheus

    * Episodic Promos
I'm especially looking forward to the love letters - even though I don't know how they'll be presented - and of course I'm eager to see the vintage promos. But while these do sound great and all, I can't believe that's all that we're getting. I don't know exactly what the "Vincent's Quest" will really be. Will it be a great interactive feature that provides now-and-then featurettes about the New York locations used in the series, mixed with retrospective interviews? Or will it be some really tacky DVD tame that simply uses clips from the episodes and stupid trivia questions?

Either way I feel that the pay-off for the fans is not worth it. So much more could have been done with this release (for starters, restore/remaster Season 1's episodes, and include DVD subtitles instead of a television's Closed-Captioning). This is a HUGE cult show and fans would easily pay through the nose for something more akin to the "Twin Peaks": Definitive Gold Box Edition. Of course, given that less people know about "Beauty and the Beast" than they do "Twin Peaks", it was already obvious from the start that what the show would get on DVD would not be as great. But come on, they couldn't even scrounge up enough new interviews (or even throw in vintage ones) for an hourlong documentary? Still, I have to at least be grateful it's getting a bonus disc of material. This is Paramount, after all.

What would have been most interesting to have been included would be "20 Years of Remembering" videos that were done by FANS and easily available online (here's the Main Site for the 9 videos). They provided the fan's perspective of what the show was to them (and one, I believe, is a "now and then" look at the locations used in the series, while another includes Ellen Geer, who was a recurring character on the series). Clearances may have been an issue, but I'm sure it could have been worked out.

Well, this is disappointing...

If you've already purchased the show's three seasons separately, don't bother with the boxed set, as it's a complete waste of money.

In addition to the strangely altered image of Vincent on the box, the "bonus" disc is insulting to long-time fans. "Newly Reconstructed Love Letters" is read by God-knows-who ... certainly not Ron Perlman. Ridiculous. If you bought the VHS tapes way back when, you already have the original love letters, which also appear on the bonus disc.

Besides the love letters, the only other two features are episodic promos for some first season episodes - and "Vincent's Quest" - an interactive trivia game. No interviews, no deleted scenes, no behind-the-scenes footage ... nothing to warrant spending $70 if you've already purchased all three seasons individually.

What a disappointment.
What a disappointment, indeed.

I just can't believe that they had the audacity to re-record the love letters with someone who isn't Ron Perlman. I'm glad the originals are included, but the new ones seem even more pointless now than ever.

The Season 1 episodic promos should've been included on the DVD in the first place (unless they only recently uncovered them), but it's a minor gripe. At least it's something.

And the trivia game...did Paramount really think that would be a worthy special feature that would get people to rebuy the set? Seriously?!? Where the hell is any on-set interviews (circa 1987-1990) or Emmy footage? Where's the behind-the-scenes material? Where's the art galleries for the tunnel sets and Vincent's make-up, where's the vast production photos? Where's the newly-recorded audio commentaries with cast and crew? Where's the definitive retrospective documentary that looks back at all three seasons and the enduring fan community? Damn you, Paramount. You should've given this set a bigger budget and gotten someone like Charles de Lauzirika to produce the DVD extras.

I only have Season 1, so it would be cheaper for me to buy the Complete Series set than to get the other two seasons separately (unless I want them used, but I'm such an extras whore that I'd rather have the CS even though its extras are disappointing). However, because of the fact that the extras are such a waste, now I'm less inclined to pick it up as I'd rather forget Season 3 and Season 2 doesn't have as many good episodes as Season 1, so I'd probably watch it less anyway.

*off to go grumble angrily*
