Snow White. Sure, it's the first traditionally animated movie, and I give it credit where its due. As far as story goes though, it's the most boring movie I've ever had the displeasure to watch.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ ~ "The Fate of Ophelia"
Taylor Swift ~ "Eldest Daughter"
Taylor Swift ~ "CANCELLED!"

PLEASE, don't hurt me, but I really think that The Little Mermaid is VERY overrated....Yes, its very different from previous works by Disney, and I respect it for essentially bringing Disney back on its feet, but it's not really one of my all time favorites.
I also think Tarzan, Mulan, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty are all overrated....
But then again, this is coming from someone who adores The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, FANTASIA, 101 Dalmatians, and several others that people here have said are overrated...so those that have already replied to this topic will most likely dissagree with me.
Now that I'm done saying that, I think I'm going to hide from all of the Little Mermaid (and other) fans....

I don't think anyone's going to attack you (since everyone has a different opinion).
But I honestly think that TLM gets outshined by the 3 movies following it among most users here myself. The only thing people are always going on about it for is "initiating a Disney renaissance."

Well, it wasn't actually THAT different from previous works, because all in all, what Ariel really wanted was to meet her prince, and she needed to be saved by him in the end. I'm sure that rings a bell... It actually started the era where Disney films started to "update" with their time, but Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin are both set "more different of the previous films" than TLM. I'm not sure I'm being quite clear here but anyways.brotherbear wrote:PLEASE, don't hurt me, but I really think that The Little Mermaid is VERY overrated....Yes, its very different from previous works by Disney, and I respect it for essentially bringing Disney back on its feet, but it's not really one of my all time favorites.
I guess the difference could really be seen by the heroines: Ariel was more akin to Cinderella, dreaming and waiting for her prince (although, agreed, she acts on her wishes far more than Cinderella), but Belle and Jasmine clearly had a mind on their own and did not plan to wait for some cutie to come and save them.

Over-rated and I dislike the film:
The Lion King - I've ranted enough against it. People should know by now that I dislike the film and consider it hugely overrated.
Over-rated and my feelings for the film are indifferent:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Cinderella
Sleeping Beauty
The Little Mermaid
There's something that's just so...."hhuurrwweegghhugghhh!" about these films. I mean, I can appreciate the Dwarfs' and Mice's antics in the first two, the sweeping animation and score in the third, and...well the fact that it's over after 83 minutes for the fourth. But these Princess films just leave me cold and too many people give them too much undeserved praise.
Over-rated but I still like and enjoy the film:
Finding Nemo - yep, my favorite Pixar film is overrated (ooh, big news, stop the presses, tear out the front page and start from scratch! Escapay things Nemo is over-rated!!!). You either love it or hate it, folks. I love it, and I acknowledge that sometimes it gets more credit than it's due.

I pretty much have the same problem with Snow White. It feels like an extended Silly Symphony. I'm not a fan of the Seven Dwarfs, so having to sit through that section of the movie (which is the entire middle half) really drags the movie down for me. The best parts of that movie for me are the beginning and end because those move the story forward. The rest just seems like filler.Disney's Divinity wrote:Snow White. The Lion King, hands down.
Don't get me wrong: I actually think the film is excellent. I just don't quite get the hoopala around it. Funnily enough, I like it more as a film in and of itself than as a Disney film. Disney films spark my imagination. The Lion King doesn't. Maybe I'm just partial to Disney's more fantasy-oriented flicks, but then Pocahontas and Hunchback are two of my favorites, and they're some of the most grounded-in-reality films to come from the studio. If I had to list reasons why The Lion King doesn't quite reach my favorites list:
* Young Simba is obnoxious and needs a royal spanking. I know it's supposed to be character development, and ironically enough, I love Kuzco, who is by far the most self-centered protagonist in a Disney film ever. Perhaps it's because Kuzco's haughtiness is so outrageous that it's entertaining. Simba's is downplayed enough to be realistic. So realistic, in fact, that I feel the same way towards him that I feel towards real life kids who think they're big shots.
* Pumbaa is a likable enough character, but enough with the flatulence, already! I've never been a fan of potty humor and always appreciated how Disney never stooped that low. Then they go ahead and stoop, and in one of their more dramatic films, at that.
* This really isn't the films fault, but Disney films with predominately animal casts just don't resonate with me. The only film in my Disney top 10 list with mostly animals is The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and considering those are stuffed animals, that only sort of counts. I'm a fan of hyper reality, and seeing human characters in animation is hyper real to me because they can be stylized and do things live-action humans can't.
* I love films where the characters embark on an extraordinary adventure. Simba's journey is emotional, not physical. He spends a third of the movie strutting around bragging, another third hiding from his responsibilities, and the last third fighting the area he originally strutted at. Disney films transport us to fascinating worlds that have a lot going on in them. Sorry, but Pride Rock isn't all that fascinating to me, and very little actually happens around there until adult Simba comes back.
Funny how I can say I think the film is excellent and yet find it so flawed. Heck, I'd give it a four out of four star rating. But because of all these flaws (and some I know exist but haven't popped in my head, yet), it's the lowest film on my four-star Disney movie list. I've even toggled back and forth with giving it three and a half, but the epic bits are too inspired not to give four stars to.

The Lion King I think it's just because I dont' enjoy animal movies at all live-action or animated.
Lady and the Tramp again I think it's the animal thing, but also i feel it's missing that Disney magic to it.

I'm really surprised to see how many people feel that The Lion King is the most over-rated Disney film. As you can probably guess by my screen name, it is my most favorite Disney film. It has been since I saw it in the theater when I was about 10 -- now I'm 22 and I love it more now than I did then. I think because it IS a story about animals, I love it so much. I am a huge animal lover so I really tend to love the animal related movies. My top favorites are very acclectic though, including newer movies and older movies; (predominately) people movies and (predominately) animal movies. I like many different varieties of Disney movies... but The Lion King still remains my favorite.
Oh well, that's is what is so great about Ultimate Disney is there is a large mixture of different people from all over the world with different likes and dislikes, favorites and non-favorites!! I love to read peoples opinions and thoughts on Disney movies, even if they differ with my own thoughts!

Even though I LOVE both of these movies I think The Lion King and The Little Mermaid are the most over-rated (Disney Animated) and all of The Pixar films are pretty overrated but I love em' all lol. I think Aladdin is in the middle of being over-rated and under-rated, but back in 92' that was the best thing in the world, well maybe because I was like 4 years old lol.

I'll go with Bambi I just never liked it. I was going to get the 2-disc for all the making of stuff and was thinking wait I hate the movie so it's not worth 20 bucks. Also hated Cinderella. Well poeple listing more then one so also I'm not crazy over Finding Nemo while it's not bad it's not near as good as pixers other work not counting cars yet to see it.
Sleeping Beauty is the most overrated Disney film ever, because it has a story that could be written on the back of a postage stamp. It always makes me laugh when people insist "The Story Is All Important" when critisising Disney's (then) decision to go CGI. Sleeping Beauty shows 100% that the story is not important at all.
- Sleeping Beauty herself has as much charisma as an old wet sock
The same can be said for Prince Philip, who doesn't even come off has heroic as the Fairies do most of the work
The fairies are annoying in themselves, and take up far to much screen time (which is why the other characters are so undefined)
Even Maleficent has no personality or motivation. She's evil because...? Well, she's just evil isn't she! Following up on a passing feud which was started 16 or so years before. Sending her sidekicks out every day for 16 (or so) years looking for the princess. I scratch my head everytime I see she won the UD Villians Countdown. She's not evil, she's a pointless villain with a pointless obsession and no plan, plot or reason.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
