How much are Disney Movies Worth

Post by cup_cake_05 »

Some Disney Movies were removed from the shelves and replaced with others. Such as Bambi, in the original you saw Bambi's mother die. They took that off of the shelf and put a more child friendly Bambi on the shelf. What other movies had this problem. I would also like to know how much Disney Vault locked movies are woth. :pooh:

Supposedly the very first Bambi it shows the mother getting shot and you see her die. They pulled it off of the shelves, and replaced it with one where you hear a gun shot, and you know that she is dead.

I'm not so sure about that. From what I remember it was decided that the film would never actually show the death of Bambi's mother. I know they struggled with how to go about the scene, but I'm pretty sure there was never a released version showing the death.

That's untrue about Bambi.

The only thing that comes to mind is that someone slipped a porn scene into one of the VHS releases of "The Rescuers." However, I didn't get that release myself, because I had the previous one.

Also, there were a couple of frames in Roger Rabbit originally that made it to the VHS release, where Baby Herman places a finger in a very naughty place as he walks under a woman's legs in the beginning of the film. Those frames are not on either DVD version. Luckily, I still have the VHS. There's also a lot of talk about Jessica not wearing panties, and how that was changed or cut out or something, in the scene where she is thrown out of a car later in the film. Frankly, it doesn't look any different to me between the original VHS and the latest DVD, but I haven't done a close comparison.

Oh, of course, there's also the commonly discussed stuff, like the priest in the Little Mermaid, though that really wasn't what people thought it was (they still edited it), lines in Aladdin and Small One, and stuff like that.

Make the friend check his/her facts.

That decision was made looong before Bambi was ever put on a "shelf"...

Perhaps there may have been some rough sketches by an animator in the very early stages of production (maybe, I'm just guessing here). I think if there was an alternate version of Bambi, it would be more widely known.

I'm sure a lot of people believe they actually saw Bambi's mother getting shot, though. That could be a cause for confusion.

One lyric was changed in The Small One

Instead of:

"We only cheat a little if we must"

it's now

"We try a little harder if we must"

The Small One Sinful?

Post by Disney Duster »

Thanks, Escapay! But, how could they change an old movie's lyrics? I mean, was this done in modern times, after the film had already been made many years ago? How could they make the voices match?

You'd have to ask Siren for the specifics, she's the resident expert on "The Small One". But given the fact that they've edited audio via dubbings for stuff like Fantasia and Bedknobs and Broomsticks years after their premiere, I'm sure this was done sometime in the last 15 years or so. It's quite easy, since the audio for a cartoon was likely simply mixed between two channels: dialogue on one, and music/effects on the other. They could easily edit the dialogue channel without it affecting the music/effects channel.
