Well I don´t belive in much that Amazon states anymore!
There is a lot of DVDs for an example that they claim is released and they are not. Disney/Touchstone had move them ahead in their schedule but Amazon still say it´s availible and will ship in a few days, but in fact they are not released until next year. It has been like this for a month.
So they are really after in their updates, I must say!... 8)

Wow, my 300th post here!
Have I really had something to say during the last months or is it just nonsense...

Can any one answer this, maybe Leonard Maltin?

If pre-orders once again exceed the anticipated sales in May 2004, is Disney going to delay again???

Now I am convinced that Goofy is the decision maker for Disney marketing.

Now, somebody on Home Theater Forum posted an interesting thought (probably half in jest).

Could Disney have delayed these discs because they knew Roy Disney would be leaving the board just before their release? After all, it turns out he was virtually pushed into resigning. And Roy's views about the running of Disney were well known to members of the board.

Could they have anticipated the media interest in his resignation and decided not to release Roy Disney branded goods soon after? Or is it all just a co-incidence?

Actually, that possibility crossed my mind also...

Disney Treasures and Roy Disney

Post by ghost999 »

Im surprised that there hasnt been more internet chatter about the possibility these collector sets were pushed back because of the pending ROY DISNEY problem. Think about it, 3 weeks before they were going to be released they are pulled from distribution!!!! Eisner must have known Roy was either going to leave or i heard he was going to be pushed out anyway because of age. As a final insult to Roy he pulls the last item with Roy's stamp of approval on every package. There is no way these will be released in the same way with the Roy Disney's signature on the front. Think about all the work that will have to be done to unwrap every package and then re-package them. That’s why they need until May to get them out. I never bought that line of crap about them needing the DVD factory to stamp out more NEMO's and Pirate's. These were all packaged and sitting in some warehouse waiting for the shipping date to the retailers. Amazon and Best Buy.com would have had to have them at least two weeks ago (or more) to repack them for mailing. This whole story about wave 3 being pushed back stunk 3 weeks ago and it stinks even worse now. :x

As little sense as this decision (to delay the Tins) made, this theory actually makes a lot of sense. I get the feeling that there was a lot of animosity there and this could have been the perfect way for somone to throw a ittle something in the face of another. The fact that Disney had such a strong year on the screen and in home video distribution may very well have made that decision a lot easier.

I wonder since the Roy Disney problem delayed the tins, could it also delay (or cancel) the future Disney dvd's (Pocahontas, Aladdin, Little Mermaid)??

For a start - Roy's departure will have no affect on future animated DVD releases. Roy's role was marginal at best. Remember how he moaned about not knowing Make Mine Music and Saludos Amigos were edited for content. If he was involved in some way with the release of the animated DVDs, you would think he would have at least seen a demo disc or something before the proper pressings.

And the animated movies still make Disney a lot of money. They will not want to stop that.

As for the Treasures, I do believe the increased demand explanation - mainly because I predicted it before the initial print run for the titles were even announced. So I don't go for the conspiracy theory.

I also think that when wave 4 comes around, Roy's name will still be on the packaging. I think, being as the treasures are obviously close to Roy's heart and something he obviously wanted to do, he will stay on as a consultant - even if it's virtually in name only. Such an agreement would suit both Disney and Roy.

It's slightly different. Katzenberg was not only working at a rival studio, he helped set it up and was one of it's owners!

Everyone should check out Jim Hills main report today. He has some good dirt on this whole Roy Disney/ Disney Treasures disaster. He is reporting that Eisner ordered Roy's name be erased from the cover in November causing the delay. Check it out at: 8) http://www.jimhillmedia.com/main/index.htm

I'm not sure I believe this allegation - it is only alledged. Jim Hill is normally on the ball, but like most leaks and rumours, sometimes they're wrong.

The official stated reason sounds good enough for me. But, Eisner could take this opportunity to remove Roy's name...

Ok, maybe this is true!
Maybe it isn´t!
Anyhow I don´t believe that this is the real and only reason to the Treasures delay.
Because to make new ribbons (around the tins) are not going to take 6 months to do.
I stick with the old explanation about not enough copies and tins, I think!

To me, that sounds like a non-sensical thing to do on Eisner's part. Wouldn't he realize that something like that would leak out (ESPECIALLY at a time like this) and only damage his reputation more?

Then again, did you notice what DVDs were being pulled in January: Fantasia & Fantasia 2000 DVDs - both of which Roy appears extensively throughout. Coincidence or not?

Anyways, if this whole story ended up being true, my opinion of Eisner will have hit rock bottom.
