That's So Raven

Post by cup_cake_05 »

What does everyone think of the Disney's Tv show That's So Raven? I have a cusin that watches it all the time, but I can never get into it. Maybe it's because I'm too old for it? And when I say I'm too old I'm only 20.

Well, one discussion considers it an embarrassment, while another one has an appreciation for the actress with ambivalent feelings from others about the show.

I watch it if it's on, but otherwise I don't pay much attention to it. It's great for 30 minutes, but I doubt I could ever survive a marathon spanning several hours.

I think it's a great show and is one of the better ones, although I wish that we would be able to see Season 4 since in Canada they mix up the episodes. Other than that, I like it

I actually like That's So Raven. Out of that, hannah montana, phil of the future, and suite life it's probably my least favorite, but I still like it. I won't go out of my way to watch it (unless there's a new episode) but I enjoy it.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I rarely watch That's so Raven. Actually because of Raven-Symoné (did I get her name right?) I will always remember her as Olivia from the Cosby show. I love the Cosby Show and she was so cute!!!
I don't like what she has become. A not really decent actress that does TV shows which are aimed at, let's say, kids at the age of 10-14 (no offence if your're older and watch it). And she gained a lot of weight!! It's going up and down, I think, based on how she looks in different seasons. So I think she's one of those child-stars who'll always be remembered as the cute little girls they were and later they try to show that they can do more, but they fail to make the right choice for a show or a movie, and will stay one of the DC-All-Stars.
Sad, isn't it?

Better to have a healthy full-figured body image than be a breakable twig like 95% of the Hollywood starlets out there.

True!! This is better than having a size 0, and looking as if you had anorexia.
But I think she has some personal problems, since her weight just keeps going up and down.

I really enjoy TSR. I was the creator of the appreciation thread Escapay mentioned and I still believe what I said. Before Suite Life premeired, TSR was the funniest show on DC. I think she's a fine actress for the quality of the show, and I think it's great that she's content with her younger audience. Someone needs to be. All the other DC starlets (Hilary and Lindsay in particular) have dropped Disney from their lives and gone for the big time. Raven (and Alyson Michalka) should be commended.

I'm as old as you are and I don't care for it either. Raven's cuteness bugged me during her Cosby days.

I like "That's So Raven" (and "Phil", "Hannah", "Suite Life", etc.), and I'm 21. I agree with numba1lostboy, "Suite Life" is funnier, but it's still a fun show to watch! FYI- "Lizzie McGuire" and "Even Stevens" are on WGN (that's what it's called here, anyway- they're in syndication now)...5pm & 5:30.

Well coming from a 15 year old, That's So Raven is actually quite entertaining.

I personally think Raven is histerical in that show.

However, I believe the Suite Life of Zack and Cody is better. Just my opinion.

I'm not a huge fan of Hannah Montana. It just doesn't do for me what Zack and Cody does. Some of the things those two say are just histerical.

I'm eighteen, and from the episodes of That's So Raven that I've seen (I was seventeen when I saw them, by the way, but it was earlier this year and I had pratically the same frame of mind on looking at various pieces of media as I do now), I can say this; the show is actually somewhat entertaining, but it's not exactly stimulating material, though I don't think the makers try to make it out to be this, as it's core-audience are tweens (10-14 year olds) who would probably puke at the idea of Raven discussing Woyzeck and other great classics of 19th century European theatre.

Speaking of which, I have to agree with those who appreciate the show since although silly, is equally realistic. Raven looks and acts (both on and off camera) more human than other teen-idols, and off screen isn't a pathetic "let's always go to parties" person a la Paris Hilton but a "let's go to work" person. Of course, most of the stuff she does isn't really the stuff I dig, but at least she isn't a wild tabloid-cover hogger.

OMG!!!! :o I can't believe it!!! Best news ever!

Disney Channel Sees Future in Spin-Off of 'That's So Raven'

Disney Channel and Raven-Symoné are developing and beginning preliminary casting for a family sitcom that will continue the story of her character from the iconic series “That’s So Raven” for a new generation of kids, tweens and families. Raven will both executive produce and reprise her role of the fan-favorite character Raven Baxter. Longtime writer/producer partners Scott Thomas and Jed Elinoff (Disney Channel’s “Best Friends Whenever,” Emmy nominees for “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour”) are working on the development of the untitled spin-off series.
As the pilot story goes, Raven is now a divorced mother to two pre-teen kids (a son and daughter), one of whom has inherited her ability to catch glimpses of the future.

Adam Bonnett, executive vice president, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, “Raven’s brilliant style of fearless comedy was a driving force for Disney Channel’s success around the world. Her performance in ‘That’s So Raven’ is timeless. We now have our eyes on the future with her, and we’re looking forward to telling more stories for a new generation with an adult Raven Baxter raising her young family.”

Disney Channel’s first original multi-camera production, “That’s So Raven” told the story of Raven Baxter, a teen whose ability to glimpse flashes of the future often got her into hot water. It was acclaimed for its stories that reflected the importance of parents to kids’ lives and for showcasing Raven’s own brand of physical comedy. “That’s So Raven” was an immediate hit with its January 2003 premiere posting the highest ratings ever in Households, Kids 6-11, Tweens and Boys 6-11 for a Disney Channel original series at the time. It went on to be a cable industry leader among Tweens for years.

In its most recent midnight telecasts on Disney Channel, the series still delivered on average 1.057 million Total Viewers.*
Raven was the first African-American woman to have her name in a comedy series title.  At age 19, she was named producer of the series. With “That’s So Raven,” she won four NAACP Image Awards and two Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, among others. The series was lauded by the NAACP Image Awards for four consecutive years and received a primetime Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Children’s Program category.

Production wrapped in January 2006 after 100 episodes, making it Disney Channel’s first live-action sitcom to reach that episodic high mark. It was seen on Disney Channels around the world, translated into French, Spanish, Hindi, Japanese, German, Italian and Portuguese among other languages. Its global success created opportunities for other Disney businesses including consumer products and publishing.

I'm sure that the success of Girl Meets World probably had something to do with this. Instead of appealing to nostalgic 80s/90s kids, though, they're now trying to appeal to the teenagers/college-aged kids who complain in Youtube comment sections about Disney "not being good anymore" in comparison to their own childhood (with a complete misunderstanding of how nostalgia affects judgment).

If it isn't clear, I really did not care for most Disney Channel shows in the early 2000s besides the cartoons, so...yeah. They just represented the company at its most cynical, which is at the end of the Eisner-era when everything else in the company was crashing and burning so they had to rely on Disney Channel to remain relevant. That being said, however, I liked That's So Raven the best out of the other Disney sitcoms of the time because of how entertaining Raven Symone was in her role. Out of all the shows they would pick to reboot, I guess I'm pretty okay with that one.

I loved Raven so I'm looking forward to this. I wonder if any of the other cast members will be back like Eddie and Chelsea.

Well, to give my opinion; I though the series was cute and fun enough, though I was never obsessed by of it. But it was enjoyable for all it was.

This is so exciting! Fingers crossed that this doesn't tarnish the show's legacy.
