Dude give it a year, trust me. Warners will put together something really nice after they finnish up on the Tom & Jerry sets. It'ss blow this French release out of the water.

OH MY GOD I WANT THAT!!!!! Tex Avery is perhaps my favorite cartoon maker. I suppose you have seen Red Hot Riding Hood, haven't you?? It's a must-see animation piece.

Jerry Beck has said that the French peeps wanted a Tex Avery set so much that they have settled for unrestored prints. This doesn't really bother me but I don't want to buy this set and find out that means that some cartoons have also been edited.

I'm going to wait until I see a review for this set before I buy it.

I expect this to take some time. Surely Warners' priority will be T&J and more Looney Tunes?

Also available in a Limited Edition 5 Disc Tin, containing an extra disc with 2 one hour documentaries and special booklet. (note subtitles may be forced on one documentary, and the other documentary may be French - it's been specially created for the DVD set)

T&J's production is already underway and the Looney Tunes restorations are no doubt a continual proccess assigned to a seperate unit over at WB. I'm sure there are many projects to come from Warners in the next few years with the upcoming Hanna-Barbera series to the Looney Tunes and than their live action feature releases, etc. but I'm sure it wouldn't have a significant bearing on an Avery release. I will guarantee that this will be out within the next 1-2 years - max. I just wouldn't be so quick to settle with other-region, unrestored prints when something so much better is underway.

STASHONE is right; we know that there is MUCH more classic animation coming to DVD. "The Jetsons: The Complete First Season" and "The Flintstones: The Complete First Season" were just announced for summer 2004. A second Looney Tunes Golden Collection, coming in November, will include "What's Opera, Doc?" and "Horton Hatches the Egg," among others. Restored Tom and Jerry and Tex Avery MGM sets are coming sometime in 2004 and 2005.

I am suspisious of this French set. It is being released by Warner Brothers, yet it contains four cartoons that Avery directed for Walter Lantz -- which are owned by Universal, not WB. It also does not contain the last few cartoons Tex did at MGM.

Even if the cartoons are not restored, it seems to be a very nice set (the tin is very... atractive

). I would like to see the documentaries.

Everyone else has had their LE Tin ship from Amazon.fr, but mine is still waiting with an availability of 5-6 days.

Well, it's still out of stock at Amazon.fr. Despite ordering it on the 1st December mine never shipped. I've since found out that people who ordered it on the 9th December (the day prior to release) had theirs ship that day.

I hope it's not a truely "limited" edition, or it looks like I've missed it - through no fault of my own.

(See people, this could of happened to the Wave 3 Treasures should they of been released).

The four missing cartoons are MGM films Avery didn't finish. As for Universal films being included. What's odd about that? Studios often licence out other studios content. The Stanley Kubrick Collection (from Warner) included the Columbia distributed "Dr. Strangelove" and the Fox "Red Curtain Trilogy" included the Beuna Vista distributed "Strictly Ballroom".

Well, after lots of messing about and address changing it finally came. However the first disc had dried-up glue on it, and I've scratched the disc getting it off. It won't play in my parents Sony player (I hope it will in our player at home - my Parent's seems to be more sensitive to faults then ours). If not, I'll see about contacting WB France direct for a replacement rather than Amazon.fr.

The tin and packaging are superb.

Amazon.fr have just cancelled my 4 disc Gangs of New York. Looks like this will not be released after all.

Interesting. Some cartoons which were presented as cut on the American LD are now uncut, while Warner France is blaming America for the missing cartoons and the cuts which did make the boxset.

It will be interesting to see if America does release the set uncut. Out of interest, can anybody remember any "blackface" gags on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection? I can't - but I wasn't particually looking out for them. If none of the cartoons selected originally had "blackface" gags then we still don't know Warner's policy. (But they did have the Bosko pilot - who does seem conform to the general black stereotype of the time - even though Bosko was not a black man according to the creators)

2099net the only "Black" stereotype joke I can remember on the LT golden collection was in "Dough For The Do-Do" where that bird is walking past porky doing an Al Johnson impression apart from that there are a few Indian (native american) jokes but no one complains about those anyways.

I'm not shocked to see one of those cartoon's on the tex avery DVD censored. "Droopy's Good Deed" is never shown uncut (the lastest release on the laserdisc was even cut). Getting an uncut version of that short would mean WB actually doing some work!

Jerry Beck will be the guy that will bring us these shorts uncensored you mark my words.
