Why can't i PM anyone?
When i try to send a private message i get this notice: " Sorry, but the administrator has prevented you from sending private messages."
Why is that? Did i do anything wrong?

You did nothing wrong. Anyone who joined after June 2006 does not have PM function. Myself included. It's a bandwith thing. Anyway, If you want to send someone a message, you can e-mail them. If their e-mail is hidden, you will have to get their attention by posting in a thread.

I second the recommendation for the links above the forum. I made a big pre-order on amazon that should go through by the end of November.Disney-Fan wrote:It might suck, but maybe if more members start supporting UD by buying through the links featured above the forum, or through the UD store, then maybe Luke will have the funds to support bandwith needed for PMs.
Or of course, if one doesn't care to do online shopping but still wants to contribute, UD also has the Amazon Honor System.
As for me, I enjoy the use of PM's (since I don't publicly show my e-mail), but rarely use them.

Oh thats great...I joined right when the PM function shuttdown for newbies...I feel so out of the box(no im not referring to that playhouse disney show lol) haha well at least I now know why I can't PM anyone....
I think the FAQ should be updated on PM's.
This is to going sound stupid but at first I thought..."Oh well maybe I cant use PM's because I havent earned it yet...maybe I have to gain like 200 points" haha cause of the avatar thing you have to get 50 points or something.

Based on all the interest in PMs, I've decided to consider letting new members claim the privilege. I figure a small donation to the site will gain anyone interested in PMs the access. That way, people are less likely to abuse something they've paid for and whatever bandwidth is racked up can get covered by the donations.
I'll need to do some calculations, but I figure the cost will be low, so that say, around $5 or less, could cover at least a year. It would be open-ended and subject to evaluation, but only to the point where you get at least what you bargained for, maybe more but never less. Perhaps there can even be some more perks that come with it, like a custom rank or bigger avatar or something. Donations would only be accepted via the Amazon Paypage, so you'd need a credit card or permission to use someone's.
Thoughts? Feedback? This would only affect those who don't already have PM privileges, which is anyone who registered last June or later.

As a new user, I wouldn't mind the ability to use PMs. Luke, I don't mind paying a small fee for the privledge.
For those who ask why we need them, it's not like I'm going to use the PMs like an email program. I had someone PM me this week who doesn't have an email address in their profile, and probably didn't see the message I posed from him in the original forum.
It's just for the convenience the few times a year that the situation would come up..
That being said, if we could just ask all members who feel comfortable doing so to put their email address in their PM, that could solve all of our problems! That way it's not publicly posted, but those of us without PM privledges could still reply to them.
