It's kinda creepy on the boat when she turns back into Ursula and starts 'crawling' down the boat to grab Ariel ... but it's very cool too. lord-of-sith I think I have heard you say before, and I MUST agree, the villains always steal the show!!

The Little Mermaid DVD is already making such a great box office!! and I agree this is one of teir best PE releases...it helps Disney financially and plus it's great to hear that people around here are still interested in Disney movies especially after their last release back in 1999. I certainly enjoyed the whole PE DVD as well as everything inside the movie and other packages and materials inside the DVD.

The Little Mermaid has always been one of Disney's best films and definately a fan favorite. I'm not too surprised that it is selling so well, especially since it hasn't been available on DVD in about 5 years, and has NEVER been available on a 2 disc.

So im curiouse to know does anybody have any specific favorite scene or moment in TLM?.
1. The second half of Poor Unfortunate Souls, especially the part where Ursula slides up the wall to her shell/cabinet.
2. The whole transformation scene was great, particularly the way Ursula's cackling echoes in the background as she's swimming to the surface.
3. Ariel and Triton's confrontation scene. It gives me chills just to watch it.
4. Ursula's scene following Kiss the Girl. Pat Carroll does the "witch" voice perfectly.
5. When Vanessa's being attacked by all the sea creatures, although I don't think they could've done that if she looked like her normal self. :P

Favourite scene: Eric lies on the beach and suddenly a godess rises from the water; it's Ariel, in an amazing, sparkling purple dress, that reveals her leg. I especially like that scene when we see Ariel's back as she comes out of the water. Whoever was in charge of that scene must be aesthetically really classy.

My favorite scene would have to be the Part of Your World (Reprise) scene. I get chills every single time I watch that part. Disney magic at its best.

I think there's a possibility that Disney will put this platinum out on Blu-Ray, if they decide to do so before its limited time only rule. That blue ray would be VERY valuable. If they do re-release it within this run, they might make it a gift set. Anythings possible, Disney's always surprising us ahah.

I don't think they'll start releasing any DACs on Blue-Ray before the format war is over.

Well, that depends on your deffinition of Disney Animated Classic. If you are refering to the films that are hugely popular like "Cinderella" or "The Little Mermaid," than no. They probably won't be released for a long time on Blueray. If you go by the definition of any film made by Walt Disney Feature Animation from "Snow White" to "Home on the Range" and exclude anything not traditionally animated, than you probably won't see a release for a year or two, but probably before the format war is over. And lastly, if you count "Chicken Little" in the line of DACs as I do since it is an animated film by WDFA, than you are wrong, becasue "Chicken Little" is currently being advertised on Disney's official blueray website as coming "soon." Probably in the Spring of 2007. Here is a link:

Oh, really? Chicken Little is coming out on Blue-Ray?
Well, I was talking about the 46 DACs, but actually referring to the "classic" classics.
But it is almost natural to put the newer movies on BlueRay earlier, and wait for the "real" classics until people have bought enough players of either one, BlueRay or HDDVD.

I saw in the UD review that The Little Matchgirl is letterboxed. Well, on the Dutch DVD it is anamorphic! That's what I saw in a review of the Dutch DVD. I'm going to buy the DVD tomorrow, finally. :)

The Little Mermaid DVD is still #1 on Amazon.com! It's been there for two weeks now! It has not left the top spot even once :D
I think Amazon is a pretty indicative source to know how sales are going... This week the set has probably sold another million copies.
It probably IS the most requested Disney DVD ever... People just can't get enough. It makes me happy to know that my favorite film ever appeals in such a way to a whole new generation of kids. Cheers! :) :)

you know why I think its so popular?

Its an Everything Movie.

You have this beautiful girl whose not helpless. She fights for herself. At 16 she knows what she wants, and she'll do what it takes to get it. She makes some wrong decisions, but she's (excuse the irony) human. Mistakes get made. Yes, she needs to be rescued by the tall handsome prince - but so does he by her. its an equal partnership of sorts. There's comedy, there's romance that's so believeable, there's tension and there's drama. its one of the rare disney movies that actually made me cry. (Beauty and the Beast and Wizard of Oz (I know oz isn't disney) are the only two other movies that made me shed major tears).

It really makes one wonder how THIS movie never got acknowledged for Best Picture either?

I have officially watched The Little Mermaid: 2-Disc Platinum Edition, from start, to finish.

All of the trailers, all of the bonus features, and watched the movie a second time, this time with the commentary track.

I have to say that this ranks up there as one of my favorite Platinum Edition titles. I really enjoyed this release.

I also LOVED The Little Match Girl. What a touching short. One of the best I've seen. Very emotional.

I also enjoyed the The Little Mermaid Virtual Ride. I would love to see them actually build this!

I would love to have had more "making of" material, but, at least we got some decent features, and a great presentation of the film. I'm very pleased with this release!

So, how many of you TLM buyers got more than 1 copy of the TLM PE?

I have two! I actually ordered only one, but a friend of mine sent me one for my birthday, so now I have two. I'll watch one, and keep the other one wrapped, maybe it's gonna be worth something in some years.

I ended up with two copies. I ordered it through Disneyshopping.com and it got backordered, so I picked it up on the day it came out. The advantage is that I now have a mint condition sealed copy with a slipcover to sell years down the road when the film has been out of print for a few years and I'll make about $80 on it. I currently have an extra copy of BATB, TLK, and Cinderella for the future ebay market. lol. I plan on unloading BATB this November when many people are looking for it for a Christmas gift and far enough away from it's next release where most people don't know it is coming in 2 years.

In terms of both the movie and bonus material, The Little Mermaid is the best Platinum since Bambi. I especially enjoyed the deleted scenes and documentary. I didn't care for "The Little Match Girl," and the interface for the virtual ride could have used some tweaking, but those minor items did not dampen my enthusiasm for the entire package.
