Well I am into a wide variety of music. I mostly enjoy singer songwriter musicians, or as they are also called alternative acoustic. Like John Mayer Michelle Branch, Gavin Degraw, Tyler Hilton, Vanessa Carlton just to name a few. I like this music because the lyrics and music is well written and I feel I can relate. I also like alternative, Jack's Mannequin, Something Corporate, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, Keane, Evanescence. I like these because well it just good. I also like pop because well its just catchy. I love Spice Girls even though they are no longer. I also like older stuff like NKOTB. I like older singers like Gloria Estefan she is my fave and Rod Stewart, Don Henely, Paula Abdul, Amy Grant. My fave band ever though is Hanson yes Hanson! They aren't poppy like they used to be!

I like an amazing variety of music. The best way to cover it all, quickly, is probably to do something of a musical history.
My parents were sort of Oldies fans, at least in my childhood. My father was big into country and classic rock, mostly classic rock - Beatles, Elvis, Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Neil Young and Crazy Horse(?), and a lot of other things that escape me at the moment. My mother was always more progressive in her tastes - she liked 70's AM Radio songs in the '70s, New wave pop in the '80s, and Alternative radio stuff in the '90s and new millenium. Any/everything - Elton John, Donna Summer, Aerosmith, Madonna, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, Rick Springfield.
When I was a kid - the first music I would listen to were of course - Family Record novelties. Disney songs, Weird Al Yankovic, little kids' plays / books on tape (fairy tales), and of course - movie soundtracks. Movie soundtracks took me into '90s Alternative, Indie, Folk, Electronica, and... Oldies. I was only technically part of the MTV generation. Everyone else was out buying Sublime, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Foo Fighters. While I would always be attracted to the stuff they'd play after hours. For a long time, they'd only play Marilyn Manson at night. I was an obsessive Marilyn Manson fan from '97 to '99. I've always been a fan, but my love for Manson spread out into other genres of music. And from there, I became a huge fan of Beck, Hole, and the Smashing Pumpkins.
At this time, I also got hooked on Master P and all the No Limit Records artists. I also had CDs of several other rappers - Foxy Brown, E-40, Yo-Yo, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot. And I was a big subscriber to the Lillith Fair fanclub. No, they didn't have one, I just was a big fan of most of those singers - Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Paula Cole, Joan Osborne, Fiona Apple, Meredith Brooks.
I first came to be introduced to Bjork, my favorite artist (period), during MTV's M2 Promo/Preview spots. I saw her video for "Human Behaviour" and became instantly enamored and obsessed. Just a few months later, after watching the video over and over again - I bought my first Bjork CD. Bjork is who basically turned my taste toward Trip-Hop and other forms of Indie-Electronica. Massive Attack, Portishead, Hooverphonic, Lamb, Gus Gus, Sneaker Pimps, Air, Moloko, Cibo Matto, Esthero, White Town, Mono, Goldfrapp, Ladytron, Moby, Broadcast, Imani Coppola.
At the same time, I went hard for Indie pop and rock. L7, Bis, Luscious Jackson, Veruca Salt, Imperial Teen, Boss Hog, Whale, Tracy Bonham, The Dandy Warhols, Dressy Bessy, Bratmobile, Elastica, Solex, Garbage, The Cardigans, Dealership, K's Choice, Poe, Sean Lennon, The Donnas, Chick, and all Kathleen Hanna outfits - Bikini Kill, Julie Ruin, and Le Tigre.
Now - I still like everything I used to like. But, I have since been properly introduced to Gwen Stefani, Lords of Acid, Blondie, Berlin, Stereolab, The Cocteau Twins, and Tori Amos. I also frequently go dipping into the 1980's New Wave and Pop vaults of my '80s Compilation CD collection. Good stuff! Oh yeah, I also was a huge fan of Ace of Base in the mid-'90s. And have always been a huge Madonna fan.

Some Ganagsta Rap
Techno
Vanessa Carlton

Tim McGraw
Garth Brooks
Big and Rich
Daniel Powter
Lil' Jon (Or Lil' Anyone, for that matter)
Usher
Faith Hill
Chamillionaire (Though Ridin' is okay)
Avril Lavigne
Simple Plan
Good Charlotte (Though I like Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous)
My favorite type of music out of anything is any and every form of classic rock from The Beatles to Guns 'N Roses.
Cheers,
JM

Hey Princessmarlo, we have similar tastes! I'm glad to see I'm not the only Michelle Branch fan on the forum, what do you think of 'The Wreckers'?
<a href="http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f231/ ... =udsig.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f231/ ... /udsig.jpg" border="0" alt="lilo banner"></a>
My music interests are a mile wide and an inch deep. My collection has everything from Henry Mancini to Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I gravitate towards rock and classic alternative. The only genres I won't listen to are contemporary Christian and pseudo-pop country.
And now, for the obligatory list of top favorites:
The Beatles
The Smiths + Morrissey's solo career
The Beach Boys + Brian Wilson's solo career
Weird Al Yankovic
Pink Floyd
R.E.M.
Nirvana
General categories I like include new wave, big band, progressive rock, glam rock, grunge, oldies, oldschool rap, and R&B. I don't mind classical but I don't actively seek to listen to it.
ETA: I loathe bubblegum pop and angry white boy nu-metal.

I've loved michelle branch since beforew her cd made it really big! She is just great. I do really like The Wreckers it is a change for her and it is country and I mainly only like female country the male stuff is usually to redneckish for me. But I really like them. How about you?Enchantress wrote:Hey Princessmarlo, we have similar tastes! I'm glad to see I'm not the only Michelle Branch fan on the forum, what do you think of 'The Wreckers'?

I listen to all kinds of music. Some of favorite singers/bands include ASHLEE SIMPSON (yes, she can sing...), Hawk Nelson, The All-American Rejects, Justin Timberlake's new stuff (now that he's not so N Sync-ish), No Doubt, Michelle Branch, and I also listen to some Relient K.

Cliched as this sounds, I like most music. However, there are some genres/artists that I really don't generally like. I hate a lot of manufactured Disneymania-esque pop, but I'm not a twelve year old girl and so I understand that it's not exactly aimed at me. I'm also not much a fan of most hip hop/dance music, though there's the occasional thing in that genre that I like. If there's one genre (or area) of music that I lean to, it's probably rock, though nothing too heavy.
Favourite artists for me include Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Maroon 5, U2, The Killers, The Automatic and Kaiser Chiefs. I also like listening to oldies (mainly songs from the 60s to 80s) as well as film and musical theatre soundtracks.

Anything, anything, anything. One thing I really despise is when one "type" of person will say they hate rock music, or hate rap, or country. I honestly love everything-- from Neil Young to Goldfrapp, from Lucas Prata to Rascal Flatts, from Marilyn Manson to Justin Timberlake, and so on and so on.
If it's catchy, fun, thought-provoking, beautiful, dance-able, or anything else pleasing to my ears then I'll listen to it. If not, then I'll at least try to respect it.

Like Just Myself, the best way to share what I do like is to tell what I don't like.
I absolutely abhor any kind of rap. It sucks.
Some country (the red-neck stuff) turns me off, too.
Other types I don't like are really hard rock and Emo music.
Other than that, I honestly enjoy all music. I go in circles, being obsessed with one type of music for s time before I go on. Right now, I'm in a Aly & AJ-Avril Lavigne-Hawk-Nelson-The Fray stage.

I actually listen to a little of everything, I like most genres of music. The CD's I am listening to right now in heavy rotation are:
-Justin Timberlake, FutureSex/LoveSounds
-Beyonce, B'Day
-Christina Aguilera, Back to Basics
I realize these are all "pop" CD's for the most part, but I guess that is just what I'm into at the moment. I really do listen to several different types of music.

Hey thanks to everybody for contributing to this thread.....I'm surprised not many people said symphonic music or a band of orchestra...I'm especially interested in musicians who knows their stuff about music. Well...there's many musicians or artist I'd definitely like to meet. My music is Symphony and rock combined, sorta like Dream Theater....I like Nirvana, Placebo, System Of A Down and even Vengaboys.....I liked metal music and rock and punk. I'm not too fond of hilary Duff or Avril Lavigne type of music though, but Dance or relaxing music suits me better.
