Guys I'm sorry I'm asking this again but this has been bothering me ever since I've bought the DVD. Is there a way to zoom in and out from the menus? They seem to be presented in full-screen and the zoom button is invalid. It works only in the film itself. I really wanted to have the menus in widescreen
Rodis, I don't believe there is a way to view the menus in widescreen on a standard TV. The zoom feature wouldn't work in that case. If you had a fullscreen LCD TV, you would be able to tell your TV that it is a widescreen TV and have it send the full menue to the screen, but you can't avheive that on a standard TV. However, do you have a DVD ROM drive on your computer? If you do, play it on your computer. Whatever is in 16x9 is displayed that way on a computer screen and then you would be seeing the full menu.

Thanks for replying, goofystitch! But my TV *is* fullscreen LCD! And I tried watching it in my computer but it's just not the same fun. There's something about TVs that makes it more special.
Weird. My brother has a fullscreen LCD in his room and I was able to trick it into showing me the widescreen menu for "Hocus Pocus" way back when that came out on DVD. lol. We have a widescreen TV in the living room, which is where I watched TLM.
congrats dottie lol. I got mine on the Tuesday it released, but as I am in the middle of Gilmore Girls, I can't watch it yet. (Also, I haven't watched Snow White, Cinderella either, so they have to come first hehe).
Right now I'm on season 3 disk 2. and I have to really ask myself, how on earth did I miss this show 7 years ago? lol. its hilarious! But i do want to hurry up with it, because i want to watch some disney.
Hi. I just received my copy of TLM from Amazon.com. I really like it. I have not wached it yet, cause I need the right time. Since the Special Edition release its a big improvement.
The fireworks scene sounds great on my thx certified home cinema. And the picture is OK as well.
I got one R2 copy from 1999 with czech language version and this time i got an original R1 release.
To let everyone know once again... if you would like to own the ORIGINAL Part Of Your World Music Video sung by Jodi Benson and the Pete Andre Kiss The Girl Music Video, you would need to pick up The Little Mermaid Read-Along DVD. I got mine for 10 bucks but it is work the $12.99 @ amazon.com or if you can find it cheaper some where else I say pick it up there.
I kinda feel complete with these videos but I wish they had more bonus features on the DVD!

ummm if you look at the topic of this thread
you will see that it IS the official TLM PE thread started by luke...
"The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition DVD Press Release Thread"
hence why we talk about TLM here and all 84+ pages are about this dvd...
maybe you should check what topic your in before you post something...
Wow, the #1 selling Platinum, very impressive. It makes me wonder how Snow White and Beauty and the Beast will do when they're re-released. Part of the reason those two films ddn't do as spectacularly was because DVD wasn't quite as mainstream as it is now.
There's something interesting mentioned at the end of the article regarding Peter Pan:
"...never-before-seen alternate opening set in Neverland rather than the Darling family's home."
I don't think we've heard about this, yet. Hopefully this means a full press release is on the way. Then again, we never got a satisfying press release for Little Mermaid and had to find out about all of that film's features second handedly...

Yes but those two were also available on VHS wherease Mermaid isn't. Anyone who desired to buy them, whether on DVD or Video, had the option to do so.
Plus, people predicted Mermaid is going to outsell every other Platinum (except TLK). Given its huge popularity and the fact that it remained Disney's most requested DVD for years. Add to that the fact that it's been voted 2nd most favorite Disney film ever (only behind SW) and Ariel being the popular character that she is.
By the way, its second round on VHS in 1998 sold even more than the first one in 1990. The 1990 one sold 10 million units and the 1998 one 13 million. I don't think that has ever happened.
I've said it from the beginning, that Little Mermaid would become the top selling Platinum eidition. For the simple fact that it is the most popular Disney film of all.
It grew its original fanbase on home video and it continues to show its appeal in that market, only now through dvd.
