Animated Classics Countdown Feature and Future Countdowns

Post by Luke »

Alright, gang, I know the forum's been kind of lifeless lately, but I'd really appreciate if you could at least let me hear your thoughts on this Animated Classics Countdown feature we've been running since last week. If you haven't noticed, we've been counting down the Top 20 Disney animated classics as voted on by forum members from the beginning of November. A new film is profiled each weekday, with comments from someone who voted.

So, have you been checking these out? Is it an interesting feature? Do you like the format of each countdown 'profile' with the quotes from people?

I think this one was kind of fun and universally-appealing, but I'd also like to do some more next year.

Tentatively, I was thinking of polling and counting down on:

Best Live Action Films (around January)
Best Disney Songs (around March)

I was thinking the same kind of drill, a few weeks for voting and then a countdown. Do you have any suggestions for future Polls and Countdowns, and is this something you'd like to see continue in the future?

There's definitely been a shortage of news lately with the big catalogue slate through June accounted for, all the major holiday releases covered and almost all released, and I thought that having a daily feature like the Countdown would be interesting for site and forum visitors. I've really appreciated getting some great comments on the films from you folks, but I really haven't heard any feedback at all and would like to know what you think. Thanks.

I have been checking it all week, Luke. I looked at every single one of the one's you have there already. I was kind of sad that 'The Rescuers' didn't make it as a top 20, since it has always been my favorite movie, you know that. And I'm waiting to see the next one tomorrow. So, yes, it is a very good feature, in my opinion, and I think it is also interesting.

Keep up the good work!

I love this feature! Like Tangela, I check it every day (seeing as how there's a shortage of other things to talk about!). It's really interesting to see what movies people liked best, and what they have to say about them.

:o I cannot believe that Lilo and Stitch beat out all three Dumbo, Bambi, and Fantasia! I thought people hated Lilo and Stitch! Yet it beat out three of the Fab % :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Excellent feature. I was positively suprised when I saw the first time. Great design and format.

The one quote on Dumbo really brought a tear to my eye.

Looking forward for the next movies to be revealed. :)

Very nice feature. It's interesting to find out what the top 20 favorites around here are, if only because I hang out around here way too much. ;) Even if I disagree with some of them (I would have put The Emporer's New Groove in the last position among the classics and certianly not in the top 20), it's cool to see what everybody else thinks.

Cool idea about the live-action countdown. So many choices...I wonder what mine will be. Pirates of the Carribbean OWNS #1 on my list, I know, with Remember the Titans and several Walt Disney features close behind. We'll see.

About the Disney Songs countdown though - let's wait till April/May for that. Alan Menken is doing the songs for Home on the Range and I think that those have a pretty good chance of getting in there, so let's let that have its day first, okay?

I LOVE this idea! I'm only sad that I didn't really know what was going on till it was too late... I guess that's what I get for my absence... :( Oh well...

Well I did e-mail you my picks after voting ended so don't know if they were included and I did not write down any of my thoughts on any of the movies, but if it is not to late, and I can e-mail you some of my thoughts on a few of the movies that would be great, I really want to feel like I'm apart of this cause I think it is really great!

I love the idea of the songs one, and I'm sure live action will be cool too, though I'm more of an animation fan myself  .

Well that's all I have to say about that! Keep up the good work Luke! :santa:

I've really been enjoying the countdown Luke - a lot of great comments from the members, plus the suspence of what film will be next makes for a really cool feature of the site. Please keep it up! :)

Luke! Just wanted to agree with everyone that the countdowns is an excellent idea. I just read and enjoyed the latest comments (101 Dalmatians), and I want to compliment you on the nice format you've devised for the whole thing. Keep them coming!

I too am really likeing this feature Luke. Although isn't it strange that when it comes to saying why you like your favourite films it is extermely hard.

Of course I've been watching the countdown. It's a great feature and it is being really well done.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this before, but what about characters? Whether you decided to do a specific character list (heroines, heros, villains) or a generic character list (or if you include to do them all), I think that one would be a great addition, not to mention great fun.

If you need help, you've got plenty of forum members who will be willing to offer suggestions, I'm sure.

I thought this was a great idea from the start and soliciting feedback from the audience is the perfect touch. Nicely done thus far and I expect nothing less from the next 15 submissions...or is it 14...whatever number we're down to 8)

I've been keeping up with the countdown every day and am loving it so far. It's not only interesting to find out what we the UD forum members rank as the top 20, but also WHY. I definitely think we should proceed with live action, then songs, and characters afterwards. If we have time next year, perhaps we could end the year with a big countdown-disney moments. That one should be VERY interesting.

It is cool to read what other people think of the films. Kinda like "DISCussions Lite".
Also, having written a couple of comments it is fun to sit down and try and nut out exactly WHY I like a certain film, or what it means to an individual, and it some cases really hard to articulate in only a few sentences. But that's good writing, right? Write? Right.
Definitely a worthwhile feature.
As for future lists, I think the concept is great. They are something you can keep coming back to a looking at, or new readers can, and last longer than comments about why X doesn't have an insert (although, that is a recurring topic).

Well that was the winner in the Battle of the Disney Classics... it beat out The Lion King!!!! :o

Although I don't know if I'd say that it's the #1 ever... it certainly is a great film

EDIT: Prince Eric just reminded me that one of my picks will probably definately not be included in the count down  ...

I voted for Home on the Range, it would have been in my top ten but since I haven't seen it yet I could only put it in my top 18... I didn't vote for 20
