MMboy Pirates of the Caribbean DVD Review!

Post by MickeyMouseboy »

Well there's nothing to say about this movie than it's one of the greatest Disney Live Action in years...... while the idea of making a movie out of a theme park ride seemed kinda stupid to most of us, Pirates delivered and amazed us all for been a great film! Something none of us expected. It has earn a place in the top movies of 2003. This highly anticipated DVD finally hits shelves Dec 2 in a two disc DVD set! yay! :D

Story

In Order to Save the life of the girl he loves, a young blacksmith must form an alliance with a rogue pirate and battle a ghostly group of villainous pirates!

Video

Presented in Anamorphic Widescreen (2:35.1) only! no Foolscreen! yay!
To me the print look flawless, I didnt notice grain nor any other film artefact. so I think everyone should be happy with the transfer.

Audio

Presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and 5.1 DTS (will review DTS track soon) and French 5.1 Dolby Digital. Very active mix! i love it! now i will have to try the DTS! hehehe

Bonus Features

Disc 1

While i havent hear the Audio Commentaries we get 3:

1) Johnny Depp & Gore Verbinski
2) Jerry Bruckheimer, Keira Knightley & Jack Davenport-This one is so nice! I love Keira!
3) Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio and Stuart Beattie and Jay Wolpert

While i havent listened to any im sure they have alot of fun stuff in it! there's so much in this set that I couldnt watch it all! im so tired lol

Sneak Peeks

This is where it gets awesome!

We get trailers from

Hidalgo
Lion King 1 1.2 (all new trailer with all new animation!)
<img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/imag ... int5-a.jpg"> <img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/imag ... int5-b.jpg"> <img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/imag ... int5-c.jpg">
and the rest is not important

DVD-Rom

we have

Script Scanner.- See how the screenwriters vision was transformed from words into moving pictures as you read the script and watch the film side by side.

and

Storyboard Viewer.- The storyboard is the director's blueprint. With this feature, you can watch the film and look at the original storyboards side by side!

This two features are only accessable to those with DVD-Rom drives in their PCs, You will need to install the interactual player that comes with the disc. while i dont like nor care to install interactual I have no idea how this look but i will try to see it to let you guys that dont have DVD-Rom if it's worth getting one! hehe :)

Disc 2

<img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/images/Pirates1.jpg">

An Epic at Sea

This is a set of 8 featurettes into the making of the film you can watch them all together with the "Play All" option or just play them individual

-The Actors
-Locations
-Production Design
-The Ships
-Makeup & Wardrove
-Stunts & Swords
-Visual Effects
-The Premiere

all together it runs 37 min and 55 secs! is that a Disney running time record or what? while this piece is not as long it has very in depth material it should keep everyone happy unless you want more........ lol

<img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/images/Pirates2.jpg"> <img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/images/Pirates3.JPG">

Fly on the Set

This is basicly the same thing as Epic of the Sea, 5 featurettes together showing the shooting at each of the sets in the movie, you can watch them all together with the nice "Play All" or watch them individually. we get:

-Town Attack
-Blacksmith Shop
-Tortuga
-The Cave
-Jack's Hanging

All together this runs 20 mins and 49 secs. very neat to see how they shot some of this scenes.

Diaries

This is composed of 3 featurettes with snapshoots and intervies from director and cast. this doesnt contain play all it contains

-Producer's Photo Diary
-Diary of a Pirate
-Diary of a Ship

This is very insightful like every featurette in this Disc again more behind the scenes! non of them exceed 11 min.

<img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/images/Pirates4.jpg"> <img src="http://ultimatedisney.netfirms.com/images/Pirates5.jpg">

Below Deck

This two featurettes are more like DIsneyclopedia on previous DVDs we get two

-Explorer Mode
-A Prisoner's last tale tour mode

Both of this are interactive history of Pirates! very awesome features!

Blooper Reel

presented in letterboxed WS 4:3. It runs 3 min and 10 secs. Semi amusing.........

Deleted Scenes

Here we get 19 deleted scenes! here's where the "play all" will come in handing! so sit back and enjoy! MMBoy Recommended

Moonlight Serenade -Scene Progression-

It basicly let us see how this scene was accomplished and put together! it's very interesting how how they blend the CGI and the Live Action! it runs 6 min and 34 secs.

Image Galleries

Includes Galleries for Storyboards, concept art, production, publicity and more!

Pirates in the Parks

this is where we go back in time and have walt tell us about this ride!

we get the snipplet from the Wonderful world of color while the show is not in is entirety it's still a nice vintage addition to this set.

we also get the trailer for the DVD-Rom material!

and last but not least the DVD-Rom for this disc is as follows

-"Moonlight becomes ye" effects studio.- you can create CGI pirates!
-Disneyland Pirates Virtual Reality views.- take a tour of the ride in this viewer!
-"Dead men tell no tales".- featurette with disney imagineers and original designers and look back at how the famous attaction came to be!
-Pirates of the Carribbean attraction image gallery.-also self explanatory

and that's all we get! the case comes in a slip case like finding nemo and a 4 page booklet that opens us to reveal a map for both discs with cool art in the front page! This a must have DVD! the features are excellent and so is the movie! i will try to send luke some snaps! so i hope you enjoyed! any question please don't hesitate to ask!

And who doesn't :? ? She's the only reason I want to see Love Actually, the only reason I liked Bend it Like Beckham, and she's also a major reason why I love Princess of Thieves and Pirates!

I'm just dissapointed that a film based entirely around a WDW theme ride, wouldn't even include a small featurette or bonus documentary of some sort referancing the theme park attraction...

<i>DVDFile.com, Pirates of the Carribbean disc review...</i>
Pirates in the Park is fun, an 18-minute excerpt from the television series "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color," specifically the episode "Disneyland: From The Pirates of the Caribbean to The World of Tomorrow" that aired on January 21, 1968. Uncle Walt gives us a great guided tour of how they created the ride, its animatronics and the interiors. It even takes us almost through the entire ride, which is about as close to the experience as you are going to get short of a trip to Disneyland. Great retro fun....on DVD-ROM, the Disneyland Pirates Attraction Virtual Reality Viewer is essentially a souped-up image gallery: click through various stills of the new, retooled Pirates of the Caribbean theme park ride, along with a little bit of introductory text. A cousin to this feature is the Pirates of the Caribbean Attraction Image Gallery, which is loaded with conceptual artwork and designs that went into the building and development of the new attraction. While not directly related to the making of the movie, I for one think this is an area where PC-enhanced features can excel - giving us both valuable insight into areas related to a movie's production and that enhance our enjoyment of it.

Yeah, whatever  . Anyone else notice Keira Knightley? Zellers has a huge life-size cardboard cutout of her on it (dressed in her Elizabeth garb) that I considered stealing yesterday.

THERE ARE EASTER EGGS ON THIS DISC!

I've found 2 already, one is an interview with Kieth Richards about his reaction of Johnny Depp basing the character off of him, and the other is the CGI sotryboards of the segment when the two pirate ships fight.....it's pretty cool and long.

here's how to get them:

go to Moonlight Serenade menu and keep pressing "down" after you get to the menu icon. (kieth richards interview)

go to the Below Deck screen menu and highlight the top icona dn press left until you highlight the gold and press enter. (the animatic sequence)

ENJOY! and i'll be looking for more as i search through this awesome dvd

found another!

go to the fly on the wall menu screen and press right to highlight the monkey's tooth and press enter. (this is a time lapsed camera set up during the construction of the pirate cave and actually really really cool!)
