Treasures want - Disney Specials List

Post by jebsdad »

I would love to see a Walt Disney Treasures set of the Disney "Specials" shorts - I consider them among of best of Disney in animation and story. Here's the list I have compiled.

1938

Ferdinand The Bull (Disney considers this a "Special" - I still think of it as a Silly Symphony)

1943

Education For Death
Reason and Emotion
Chicken Little

1944

The Pelican and the Snipe

1950

The Brave Engineer
Morris, The Midget Moose

1952

Lambert, The Sheepish Lion
Susie, The Little Blue Coupe
The Little House

1953

Adventures In Music: Melody (also known as just "Melody")
Football Now And Then
Ben And Me
Toot, Whistle, Plunk, And Boom

1954

Pigs Is Pigs
Casey Bats Again
Social Lion

1956

Hooked Bear
Jack And Old Mac
In The Bag
A Cowboy Needs A Horse

1957

The Story Of Anyburg, U.S.A.
The Truth About Mother Goose

1958

Paul Bunyan

1959

Eyes In Outer Space
Noah's Ark

1960

Goliath II

1961

The Saga Of Windwagon Smith

1962

A Symposium On Popular Songs

1967

Scrooge McDuck And Money

1969

It's Tough To Be A Bird

1970

Dad, Can I Borrow The Car?

1974

Man, Monsters And Mysteries

1978

The Small One

1982

Vincent
Fun With Mr. Future

1987

Oilspot And Lipstick

1992

Off His Rockers

1995

Stand By Me

This list is based on reference books on Disney, with an "educated guess" on some of the later, lesser-known shorts.

I have seen all of these except 1982's Fun With Mr. Future. I consider most of these among Disney's best work.

I know some of these have already appeared on DVD (1952's Susie The Little Blue Coupe on Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad) or will appear (the 1943 shorts on the On The Front Lines treasures set), but I would love to have all 39 of these shorts together in one Walt Disney Treasures DVD set.

That would be a great set to own. A complete collection of Special Shorts. I'd definately be up for that.

What about:

- "Chicken In the Rough" (1951)

- "Two Chips And A Miss" (1952)

- "The Lone Chipmunks" (1954)

- "Figaro And Cleo" (1943)

- "Bath Day" (1946)

- "Figaro And Frankie" (1947)

You could also get rid of "Education For Death", "Reason And Emotion" and "Chicken Little" as they're all featured on the upcoming 'Frontlines' collection, but that would make an amazing Treasure set!

Does anyone remember the special:

"Beauty and the Beast: A Concert on Ice"?

It starred Susan Egan as the voice of Belle, and James Barbour as the voice of the Beast. The skating cast was:

Belle-Ekaterina Gordeeva
Beast-Victor Petrenko
Lumiere-Scott Hamilton
Gaston-Lloyd Eisler
Mrs. Potts-JoJo Starbuck

It had music from the movie and the newly opened Broadway show, and "Home" made me cry.

Anyone else think that this and the other Disney Ice Specials (A Disney Christmas Fantasy on Ice-love this one :D ) should be on a special DVD compilation?

Disney lists Chicken In The Rough, Two Chips And A Miss, and The Lone Chipmunks as Chip and Dale cartoons. Disney lists Figaro And Cleo, Bath Day, and Figaro And Frankie as Figaro cartoons.

Disney's "Special" shorts refer specifically to those type of cartoons that basically do not include Disney's regular cartoon characters (Mickey, Minnie, etc. - even "minor" ones such as Figaro).

Disney's "Special" shorts are different from TV Specials. The "Specials" shorts were basically shorts that replaced the old "Silly Symphonies".

I do remember! Actualy, I have it on tape. It's a shame they didn't include it on the DVD.
I also have other Disney specials on ice... "Aladdin On Ice", "Reflections On Ice: Mulan" and "The Enchanted Christmas of Disney On Ice". It would be cool to see them on disc.

I know, but how else would these shorts be integrated into a dvd release if not for such a compilation? If you're including the likes of one-shot characters such as Humphrey The Bear, etc. why not the remaining 2 which wouldn't otherwise fit into any categorized release?

What's "Enchanted Christmas of Disney On Ice"? Is it the same as "A Disney Christmas Fantasy on Ice"?

Yes, it is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0233450/
"The Enchanted Christmas Of Disney On Ice" is how it was called here in Brazil... I didn't know the original title, now I know. :)

Things have been kinda slow here these days, don't they? The Thanksgiving holyday, maybe?

I, for one, would really like to see some more re-issues of classic Disney television. We used to get some of the shows on TV here (Sweden) when I was a kid, but seldom more than a selection of episodes. Maybe it's just that I imagine them being better than they were, but I sure would like to see WWoC or some early Mousketeers shows as a Special Edition or Treasure set. Maybe someone has better suggestions about what to include?
