When Mermaid was made, there was no DTS, and that should read "Dolby Stereo" and not "Dolby Digital".

I guess now's not a good time to tell you that since this is a Lowry Digital restoration, the end credits probably feature a section devoted to the people who helped restore this...Julian wrote:

I have the original "Black Diamond" edition on VHS. It had "Dolby Stereo" on it. That was right before the same logo with powdered white castle at the end.Julian Carter wrote:![]()

That is a more better version of the old logo, not the one with powdered white. The "Black Diamond" edition on VHS was powdered white and navy blue with the star trails the "W" towards the bottom where the line was appeared smack dap near the "W". The later version of the logo had a star trails towards the "W" and missed it towards the bottom.lighthousemike wrote:the beginning is the newer logo not the one that was shown when the movie was in theatres.
look
Just a quick note. They changed the sound from dolby stereo to digital and added DTS way before this dvd was made. they did that when they re-released TLM to theatres in the late '90s (1998 i believe).Julian Carter wrote:lighthousemike wrote:![]()

and thanks for the screengrabs and trailer.
First of all, when I saw the top of the first screen-cap, I actually thought it was from the original Sleeping Beauty. However, I realized it was only from Disney Princess Enchanted Tales when I scrolled down further. But I half agree with you. The animation is very close to the original. It's just not quite there. And I'm glad, because if it was just as good that would be scary.Timon/Pumbaa fan wrote:The animation looks amazing! You gotta give it that I think. I mean, anybody who says every DTV sequel is subpar to the original in terms of animation needs to see those screen-caps, in fact, I think it's almost to a point you'd be dissing the original if dissing this animation.
Story-wise, yes it does looks childish and a marketing tool, I actually find the origial to be mediocre too. I mean, none of the characters really had depth to them at all, they're either just "good" or "bad", the story was a stereotypical "good v.s. evil" with nothing reallly new added to it, plus really did nothing but rehash Snow White and Cinderella. In fact, since Disneyland's castle was called "Sleeping Beauty's Castle" in 1955, I wouldn't be surprised if Walt only approved of it just so he have a back story to that castle. In other words, for marketing reasons!
Take that what you will when you diss it.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you here. It's not the companies fault that it was somewhat similar to Snow White and Cinderella, that's just how the story is since the beggining (and it really isn't that close to Cinderella anyway).Timon/Pumbaa fan wrote:The animation looks amazing! I see, though kinda funny since in some of the princess line merchendises, her eyes are blue.Disneykid wrote:No, Aurora's eyes are a dark grayish purple color. They're only blue in one single shot in the entire film, and it's the shot of her after she's awakened. I'm not sure why her eyes are blue in that shot, but I guess you can dismiss it as a temporary after effect of the spell just like the rubies that appear and disappear from her crown.
My guess is that the hat thing came from the Philip character in the Disneyland/World where he DOES wear a hat( idunno why the coustume characterwearing a hat like that, that was no where in the movie. oh well.lord-of-sith wrote:*looks back at previous page* Ew...your right. Dude, danfrandes, that's EXACTLY what I asked in the Peter Pan thread....danfrandes wrote:Hey, lighthousemike, I was wondering, aren't you going to make a thread with the Peter Pan Platinum Edition preview in possibly late February with clips of Disney previews like you made clips of Disney previews in "The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition preview" thread?
