The Great Mouse Detective Special Edition?
Do you think there should be a 'The Great Mouse Detective' special edition DVD coming soon?

With Disney's current habbits of releasing themed editions(Dumbo Big Top Edition, Robin Hood Most Wanted Edition, etc...) I would say it is more likely to see a re-release of The Great Mouse Detective on DVD in 5 years, but not a special edition. I don't expect we will ever see a 2-disc edition. I'm pretty satisfied with the current DVD release. It even has a making of.

So long as it includes a better making-of featurette, the original animation and Henry Mancini song for the lounge club scene, and the trailers, I'll be a happy camper.

All plans for any film continuing the Basil of Baker St. characters have been canceled. I believe "Cinderella 3" is going to be the last DTV film. I really liked the idea for a movie in which Mickey is missing and Basil is hired to find him and along the way, a character from every animated film is involved, but that was shelved a while ago. And I heard rumors of a GMD2, but I don't think production made it very far if it was even started at all, seeing as it was just a rumor and I've never heard any truth to it.There'll be one when G.M.D. 2 is slated to come out.

So they really are getting rid the direct to video dvds? That's a real switch. I wonder what they will release then. That was like their main thing the last few years.goofystitch wrote: I believe "Cinderella 3" is going to be the last DTV film.
Anyway, I haven't seen The Great Mouse Detective in a really long time so I can't really say if I would care if there was a newer release out. I'll decide once I see the movie again when it comes up on my Netflix queue.

I think I was around. Was Teede the guy who allegedly had an insider at Disney and was sneaking him big scoops of info about the project? I remember someone doing that and everyone kept telling him he was wrong and he kept saying "You'll all see." I guess we have all seen. lol.Don't remember if you were around then, but tell that to Teede.

I agree with everyone else in thinking that this will be re-released soon, i'm just not so sure about next year. I would really love to see a re-release of this film, it's actually one of my favorites and i think it deserves a lot more. I think a better making-of is needed, maybe some deleted scenes, and a good concept art gallery. maybe they could reanimate a deleted scene and stick it into the film like they've done for The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and Pocahontas. I really enjoyed that and miss it actually.
