What's the privacy policy?

Post by Starion »

Hi Luke, I was just wondering what the privacy policy of the website and forums are?

Some sites post the following:

Commitment to privacy
The information they collect (Info from server logs, IP addresses, E-mail address, ect.)
How they use the information / If they share our information with third parties
Useage of cookies
Their commitment to data Security
Their Commitment to children's privacy
How I can access or correct the information
How to contact the site

There's nothing formal in place, at this time, as I've been unhappy with the "auto-generate privacy policies" but to address your topics:

Commitment to privacy - Privacy is important. I don't know if I have time to be fully commited to it, but I can at least say that I care about privacy.

The information they collect (Info from server logs, IP addresses, E-mail address, ect.) - Pretty much nothing is "collected" - I suppose your e-mail address is saved in the forum database somewhere. My webhosts also logs browser types, operating system, page views, and visit durations, but none of that is tracked individually, just figures at large.

How they use the information - Only time I really use 'individual' information is when checking the top hosts, to make sure that we don't have any individuals consuming an extraordinary amount of bandwidth. That's rare, and only the highest bw consumers (which are usually robots) are logged, anyway.

If they share our information with third parties - NO

Useage of cookies - they're not used, except to keep you signed in on the forum, I guess

Their commitment to data Security - Uh, I believe that all the data should be secure. Things like passwords are secure, and I don't have them, unless you give a phony e-mail address and it bounces back to me, in which case I delete the e-mails anyway, without caring.

Their Commitment to children's privacy - Well you have to be 13 or older to register for the forum.

How I can access or correct the information - There really isn't any information on you or anyone that is accessible or correctable.

If there is interest, I can bang up a "Privacy Policy" but I figure it's just another page that people will ignore for the most part, anyway.
