Will there be Secret Santa 2006?
Hellow everyone,
I was just posting to see if anyone knew if there as going to be a Ultimate Disney Secret Santa as last year I was too new to the forums to participate but now I sure hope that I might be able to participate this year... If there is one....
Probably Luke could answer this question best on whether or not there will be a Secret Santa 2006 for the site.

Yeah, I'm hoping there's one again too. Last year was my first time participating, despite being here for nearly 3 years (well, 3 years come January 24 2007).
September's probably too soon to discuss this, though. I'd wait until at least mid-October to have serious discussions about setting it up this year.

Last year's left a bit of a sour taste, what with three times as many deadbeats as in the past two years combined. Still, I think my fondness for the season (and the Secret Santa idea) will triumph over my better judgment and it will return. I'd like to start it a little later than last year (but not too much) and have a more strenuous screening process. Even people who have come through in past Secret Santas might not be allowed to participate if they're not posting on a regular basis.
On a related note, one of the forum members who didn't come through last year will be returning to the forum in the days ahead, supposedly to make amends.

Yay, orestes. is coming back! (at least, I'm thinking it's orestes. since no one's heard from him and we've all been really worried).Luke wrote:On a related note, one of the forum members who didn't come through last year will be returning to the forum in the days ahead, supposedly to make amends.

His name has changed from "Banned Deadbeat" to "Suspended".
I guess that sad moment of silence at the UD Awards was flat out wasted!

One Reason I asked this is....
One reason I asked just now because someone in a trading site that involves Beanie Babies and other Ty Products is now starting to take signups for their Secret Santa. So I didn't know if it was too early or not. So I thought I would ask. I think whoever this person is that is coming back should be welcomed back. Everyone deserves a second chance to set things right. At least that is my humble opinion.

I'm excited. I haven't participated in this in the past, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I'm willing to submit myself to the screening process. Can anyone explain to me how it works in the UD sense? Do you only give Disney DVDs? Or is it a give anything of a certain price value and stuff like normal secret santa's? And how are the names randomly destributed? Does Luke randomly match up people and e-mail the names? Also, if you are able to give gifts of anything Disney and not just DVDs, will we know before December 6th? Because I am going to Disney World for 5 days then and that would be the opportune time for me to shop for my secret santa if I had the name by then.

Each participating member is contacted by Santa, and Santa gives them the name and address of another participating member. There's a thread in Off-Topic that's essentially the Secret Santa Wishlist Thread, where people post a list of what they would like to get. Some people say, "Oh, just get me anything", and others have very specific lists of "Make sure it's in widescreen and that it's one of the 50 titles listed below!". The price range usually is $20, but several members like to go overboard for their Secret Santa.goofystitch wrote:Can anyone explain to me how it works in the UD sense?
Heavens, no!goofystitch wrote:Do you only give Disney DVDs?
Yeah, anything within a $20 range, but like I said, sometimes people go over the price range.goofystitch wrote:Or is it a give anything of a certain price value and stuff like normal secret santa's?
I was the unofficial keeping-track-of-who-was-assigned-to-who person last year, as whenever someone received their gift, they'd post it in a thread for it, and best I can figure out from Luke's method is that it's completely random, but for some odd reason, there are a few pairs who get each other (A and B are secret santas to each other, while C is SS to D, and D is SS to E, and E is SS to C).goofystitch wrote:And how are the names randomly destributed? The cut-off date for sending out a gift usually is the first week of December. IIRC, last year it was December 9.goofystitch wrote:Also, if you are able to give gifts of anything Disney and not just DVDs, will we know before December 6th? I would be home on the 10th and it would ship the 11th. Would it be that big of a deal if the cut-off shipping date was before I would be able to ship it? It would still be there before Christmas and I could PM the person in charge and let them know that if my secret santa asks, that they weren't duped and it is on it's way. Otherwise the gift would be less special and not from WDW.The cut-off date for sending out a gift usually is the first week of December. IIRC, last year it was December 9.

Yeah, that would probably be good too. So long as it's not being sent out by President's Day.goofystitch wrote:Escapay wrote:I would be home on the 10th and it would ship the 11th.
