Nah, it's a critic darling, and many adults warm up to it easily, but it's not as popular with the under 10 crowd. I'm more surprised that Aladdin scored so low. Despite the references being somewhat dated, they're still highly amusing. And how can kids resist an all-adventure feature with one of the cutest sidekicks to date, Abu, is beyond me!Disney's Divinity wrote:I'm surprised BatB didn't do better though.

That's just too bad. Although the ratio is intended, there are always certain shots that look like something's missing in them. And it's not like you are gonna see the difference on a television anyway.Escapay wrote:Preference from the creators to have it in the intended theatrical aspect ratio. Same reason that Beauty and the Beast, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and the Gold Collection version of Mulan were released in their theatrical 1.85:1 aspect ratio as opposed to the fully 1.66:1 animated aspect ratio.

I can understand that I suppose. When I was younger, I wasn't much into the movie either. A little too much romance to be interesting for me.Disney-Fan wrote:Nah, it's a critic darling, and many adults warm up to it easily, but it's not as popular with the under 10 crowd. Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ "Elizabeth Taylor"
Katy Perry ~ "bandaid"
Meghan Trainor ~ "Still Don't Care"
It's based on figures I've collected through the years from the internet. Snow White and BATB's, for example, were taken from a rather popular DVD/Video site which tracked yearly sales figures. Cinderella's from a IMDB article, Bambi as well. I have some sales figures of the old VHS releases from the 1980's and 1990's if you're interested.BambiFan87 wrote:Rodis where did you get DVD sales figures like that? im interested in knowing those things. thanks!
And yes, Aladdin is still a mystery to me. It went from being one of Disney's most appealing films ever (probably second only to TLK) to being a completely outdated, non-appealing flick whatsoever. The film used to hold such cinematic/sales records that you'd think it would still gonna make money for Disney even in 2092, but that's not the case.

Well not a lot is missing when something's matted from 1.66:1 to 1.75:1 (or 1.85:1) It's like cutting off 1/16 of an inch off the top and bottom of a 3x5 photograph.KubrickFan wrote:That's just too bad. There are cases, though, where matting is not done correctly, such as the original Back to the Future Trilogy release in 2002, and the matting of 1.33:1 animated films from Disney (Buzz Lightyear, Aladdin and the King of Thieves). One of the worst cases of bad matting, though, was from Artisan's release of Return of the Pink Panther. They took a P&S copy of the film, and matted it down to look like 2.35:1, so essentially more than 70% of the picture is lost. I don't have the new Universal release of it to compare though, I'll need to get it one of these days.

I GOT THE DVD TODAY!
YAY... Axelmusic rocks!
I watched it this afternoon and I loved it! The restoration is beautiful, however it does have some grain... It seems it has been a bit rushed... A character can be completely clean for a while and suddenly its grainy... Too bad BUT OVERALL IT's AMAZING... I'll use all mornig tomorow on watching the bouns features...
... And YES the main menu is animated... The wind is blowing in her hair and when you pick a feature she jumps into the water... AMAZING!!!

I asked this question a few pages back and I think it got totally lost in the mix, but is TLM II getting a re-release?
I saw a picture of what looked like a boxset or something with TLM II earlier in the thread but couldn't figure it out.
Thanks a bunch.

It's up to you and me, to face our destiny. The jury's here so let's take the stand.

But, they'll likely re-release it a few months before or a few months after TLM III hits the shelves to help promote it.
Likely the same reason Cindy 2 didn't get a re-release, so they could hold off and use it to promote Cindy What If...
