I might see The Haunted Masion it could be the next Pirates of the Caribean.
It looks kind of cheap, but it has Eddie Murphy so it might be good. :D

I *highly* doubt it ... unless it reviews well and folks here rave endlessly about it.

I don't think I want to see that... Specially since I knew there were going to be singing busts involved... Singing busts creep me out since I saw the "Walt Disney" one... Please, do not post that image here... I mean I get really creeped out...

I know what you mean by "singing busts." lol.

At the end of the trailer, they sing, in a barbership quartet kind of way, "Comiiinnngg Sooooonnnn!"

Right? :)

Anyone have a picture? You can e-mail me or pm me-to not use up bandwidth. But you've intrigued me-what are the singing busts? I haven't seen the trailer...

I saw Haunted Mansion!

Post by Maerj »

I'd say that Disney is definitely on a winning streak this year. Starting off with Finding Nemo, then the greatness that was Pirates of the Carribean, followed by Brother Bear and now the Haunted Mansion!

This was a really fun film, sure there are many cliches that appear here, but the movie is briskly paced and fun from start to finish. Eddie Murphy was his funny self, providing many wisecracks throughout the film. I would call this movie a family adventure with some comedy and a couple of 'jumpy parts' thrown in for good measure. Haunted Mansion has that sort of old Disney adventure movie feeling, they did a good job with plenty of nods to the classic theme park ride.

The audience seemed to have a great time as well. One note, there is stuff after the credits, its not much but you might want to stay to see it.

On a similar note I finally watched the Country Bears movie tonight. 2099net has been recomending it highly and I did find it to be pretty funny. While it's definitely not on the level of Haunted Mansion and Pirates, it was still a funny lil movie.

Very glad to hear you enjoyed it! It looks really good, and I'll be checking it out on Thanksgiving weekend between the WDW parade, White Castles, and Black Friday sales.

Maybe the Pirates DVD will suprise us with a free ticket for Mansion? I heard there was one in Santa Clause 2 and it would certianly fit better with Pirates since they're both ride movies. Moreover, Pirates is sure to be a megaseller, so a ticket in there would drive people to Mansion, which would (while costing Disney a little cash) drive up word of mouth which would lead to other people plucking down their money and Disney getting more money.

Glad to hear you liked it. I still have some reservations about the film, Eddie Murphy does not exactly inspire confidence these days.

Well, lol, if you don't trust Eddie Murphy, you can trust me! This is no Pluto Nash this time around. I won't give anything away, but I will say that I think he was perfect for his role and his character does some things at the beginning that are hysterical. Don't get me wrong here though, I personally don't consider this movie a comedy, although I was laughing throughout a lot of it. To me it is an old fashioned Disney style adventure movie with a lot of laughs and a few scares thrown in.

The only trailer was for a new Disney sports movie starring Kurt Russel as the coach for the 1980 Olympic hockey team. Looks good if you are into movies like that.

One last thing...the theater! Wow! I saw it at a place south of Baltimore called the Muvico Egyption 24. The entire place was Egyption themed, there were huge stone pillars outside, statues of Anubis, the Sphinx, etx. It was at the Arundel Mills Mall and if you are in the area its worth checking out.

Pirates was by no means a *great* feature. It was nice enough as Hollywood entertainment. But it was surprising to see how many clishes they managed to put into it. An example is the "cool" lines that were used in the swordfight at the Blacksmith's. That is only frustrating.

I think that the insult swordfighting is meant to be a nod to the Monkey Island video games.

Too bad. The insult swordfighting in Monkey Island was fun, this wasn't. But, there is a highlight though: Johnny Depp

Well, I thought it was a *great* feature and I think there are more than a few who would tend to agree with me on that, but of course you are more than entitled to your opinions as well. I just think that there's really no point in being overly snooty when criticizing a film based off a theme park attraction.

I'm looking forward to seeing it this weekend as well. I have more confidence in seeing it since it got a good review so far. I am always sketchy on Murphy. Everything can either be very good or very bad with him. So we shall see.

If you said it was entertaining I think I trust you since we are all Disney fans here.
