Just finished watching one of the movies that are featured in the new release that came out today called The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection from Universal Studios and sold exclusively at Best Buy. It contains five movies on three discs from the classic 50's: The Mole People, Monster on the Campus, The Monolith Monsters, Tarantula and the one I watched today - The Incredible Shrinking Man. Excellent collection and can't wait to watch the others.

I saw Half Baked on satruday and I saw it again today. Entertaining from start to finnish. Why else would I watch it again? There also some pretty good cameos in there, my favorite being Bob Saget even though he scares me in real life but he has one of the best lines in the whole movie.

Haha!!! That movie rocks! I love Dave Chappelle, he has to be one of the best stand up comedians ever!!!

Green Mile - It sucks watching it on TV. I have to buy it on DVD because it's such a good movie I don't want to be interrupted my commercials (:roll:) and they edit half the movie. So I should just buy it, stop my complaining.

Today I watched a bit of The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea. it got me even more in the mood to watch the VHS copy of the original, but I haven't watched it in months just to make sure that it seems extra special when watching the Platinum Edition DVD for the first time.

Ha (even though I hate it when people refer to Herbie sequels as remakes), I'm going to have to stick with considering Poseidon a remake, simply because it has too much in common with the first. I didn't watch the extras because I was viewing it at a friend's house, but whenever they say, "It's not a remake, it's a re-imagining," or something like that as an excuse for their remake, I have to roll my eyes, because that's still a remake in my opinion. Of course it's different in some ways, but it's still the story of a cruise ship named Poseidon that gets turned over in the ocean, and the survivors have to climb up through the bottom of the ship to get rescued. At any rate, I sure would never want to have to do that!


As for movies I saw recently, today I saw two faves of mine, "Joe Dirt" on DVD (recently bought it, thankfully days before they came out with the stupid new cover) and, once again, the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie (it's been running a lot on TV). Dang, that girl Bo Duke is in love with in the movie is just a total Southern dreamgirl!

I watched the Everest documentary piece (forgot its name). An extremely informative piece, full of touching moments. The cinematography is absoloutely mesmerizing, and had me glued to the IMAX screen the whole time! 9/10

I saw "Wyatt Earp" today, the Costner one, and it was awesome!

Just saw Don Bluth's The Secret of NIMH. I was very impressed by it. It was very well animated, and, in fact it really stood out in parts. In some instances it felt like the animation could have had a bit more polish, but overall it's a technically impressive feature.

I rented the movie, and unfortunately the DVD was a really craptacular one. The transfer was so-so. Not terrible, but could definitely do with improvement. The worst crime was that it was presented in a pan and scan transfer. How loathsome! The picture was rather shaky and unstable. It was mixed in a somewhat acceptable Dolby Stereo Surround. To top it all, it was a barebones disc with absolutely no extras.

The DVD is produced by MGM Home Video. I later was not surprised at the low quality presentation of the film, as I discovered that this particular DVD was released in 1998. How ancient! Is this what DVDs were like in their infancy!?

I just love it!!!! But the Region 1 DVD of it sucks with the Pan and Scan transfer. The Region 2 DVD is much better.

Came out from under my rock and watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High for the first time in 10 years. I forgot how funny this movie really was. And the extras on this Special Edition are really great. Sean Penn WAS Jeff Spicoli, and hubba!-hubba! Phoebe Cates is my new love.

I yesterday watched a beautiful motion picture called "Far From Heaven", starring Julianne Moore, Dennis Quaid and Dennis Haysbert. It is so intense and emotional, so mature and artistic. I felt the best performances came from Moore and Haysbert. It is a lovingly crafted film. It's sure to remain in my memory.

I saw "Unleashed" yesterday, a surprisingly touching and different marshall arts film. More emphasis on the story and lots of emotion! Great cast, too!

I also saw a new horror film called "Tamara," which combines elements of a few others, like Carrie, but basically is about a girl who is persecuted at school and in love with one of her teachers. She's dabbling in witchcraft to try to steal the teacher from his wife. Then, the preppy kids at school play a vicious prank on her that accidentally results in her death. However, they accidentally complete one of her spells that brings her back to life in pursuit of revenge, and that teacher. It was surprisingly good for direct to video horror! Though, it had the usual bad acting and cheeziness throughout. Still, one of the better ones.

I watched "The Littlest Outlaw" and "The Great Locomotive Chase" for the first time today. I'm reading Leonard Maltin's "The Disney Films." It's a comprehensive guide mostly about the Film's Walt made, but then has a lot of info about the studio's films after Walt. I'm currently in 1956. I have to stop now because I'm waiting for "Westward Ho, the Wagons" to arrive. I have most of the films made during Walt's time and am tracking down the ones I'm missing on VHS since they were never released on DVD.
