Possible (cool!) new character dining!

Post by Maerj »

I took a WDW online survey yesterday and it was all about character dining. The survey mentioned 3 different ones and the one you show the most interest in is the one they question you about. The choices were a Princess one, Pixar characters and a Pirates of the Carribean one.

I went with Pirates!

They suggest that a Pirates Character Dining experience may include a boat ride to an island, an all you can eat buffet dinner with Captain Jack Sparrow and the rest of the pirates on the island. It also said something about handing treasure maps out to guests to look for hidden treasure on the island. Sounds pretty cool to me!

So, who knows if it will happen, but I def like the sounds of it and thought I'd share it with you guys.

That Pirates dining experience sounds awesome! I'd love to see that happen.

A Pirates character meal would be amazing. There are already enough Princess type character meals, and I don't think a Pixar character meal would have enough of a theme, whereas the Pirates theme could be explored in so many different ways.

i doubt they'll have a 3rd princess meal...

i did hear rumors that Hollywood & Vine is going to turn into a Pixar character dining experience...

and as for pirates- they may as well make use of that restuarant that is ALWAYS closed across from Pirates & use it for another character dining meal. :)

A Pirate-themed character meal sounds way cool! I hope they would have not only Jack Sparrow, but also Barbossa, Elizabeth, Will and maybe even Davy Jones.

According to the survey, the Pirates character thing would be on an island... so it sounds like it won't be in the Magic Kingdom at all unless they plan to refurbish the Tom Sawyer island.

I'm thinking that maybe they are planning on using the old Discovrey Island. That's the one that used to have animals in the middle of Bay Lake.

That's what I was thinking too. I was reading some WDW history website...Widen Your World...and even before Discovery Island, there were plans for a Treasure Island. It was actually built and opened to the public with all kinds of little pirate themed tidbits and a shipwreck, but the main attraction was the animal exhibits with just a Treasure Island theme. Soon the pirate theme went away and it was simply an animal sanctuary, but then closed because of Animal Kingdom (the island the Tree of Life sits on is now called "Discovery Island," but before I'm positive it was called something else while the REAL Discovery Island was still open).
Here's the full story:

You can see some very interesting plans for different WDW attractions/hotels/etc. from this old map:

Where Discovery Island is, you can see a pirate ship for Treasure Island! I"m wondering what that Taj Mahal looking place is above it.

Anyhow back on topic...I think a Pirate Dining Experience would be amazing! If not a dining expereince, at least a somewhat more realistic pirate experience (as opposed to the ride in MK) would be awesome!

Do you have a link to the survey? I'd like to take it!
