Theatrical Reissues

Post by bennyb98 »

So I was watching some of the bonus features on my Snow White PE and I was watching all of the trailers for the releases of Snow White over the years and it got me thinking that Disney hasn’t done a theatrical reissue of a classic in a long time, if I recall the last one was BATB in IMAX. I really wish they would release them again, it’s just something magical about seeing them on the big screen than on a tiny TV screen, but I think this practice is gone out the door with the Platinum edition DVDs.

Actually, benny, the last rerelease wasn't Beauty and the Beast on IMAX. It was actually The Lion King on IMAX, or, if this counts, Cinderella, which got a rerelease in France last summer.

I've got to agree with that sentiment. I know that the El Capitan gets these week long digitally screened engagements, but that's it. Like someone said in another thread, even if they just did limited rereleases in cities or major cinemas of some sort, that would be great.

The last re-release I recall was Lady & the Tramp wich got a release in Scandinavia.

And there's Nightmare Before Christmas coming up in October.

Though less frequent and not as wide as they used to be, re-releases still occur.

Dumbo, and now Little Mermaid, received re-releases at The El Capitan theater, in celebration of restoration and/or upcoming dvd re-releases.

I would love another fullblown re-release all over the world for a Disney feature again. Perhaps Jungle Book next summer, before it hits dvd. But I doubt Disney will do this.

I wish they would re issue Aladdin. I never got to see it in theaters, I guess I was just too young.

Aladdin was the first movie I ever saw in theaters but I was like 3 or 4 at the time so I obviously don't remember it lol. I'd love to see it again on the big screen. I'd also love to see Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid on the big screen.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I remember watching Roy Disney not too long ago, and he was saying that re-issues into theaters just aren't profit makers anymore. They make more money bringing out new DVDs, or re-issues of DVDs. However, I do miss the excitment of your favorite moving coming to movie theaters again. The Little Mermaid re-issue was a blast!

yeah, same here. really Id like to see any of Disney's best stuff in theaters. because I missed nearly all of them. the only animated disney movies Ive seen in theaters I think would be the Lion king (which I vaguely remember) and Tarzan (I remember that one pretty well). oh and brother bear.
and none of my theaters has a chance of supporting the mermaid re issue. I didn't even read about it online untill recently. it probably just a very few select theaters, am I right?

Doh! I figured I was forgetting something. I wish they would release more besides at El Capitan, but at any rate I’m guessing that we will probably see Snow White again on the big screen in 2012.
