It appears that the "Giftset" that was on BestBuy.com has now vanished...that is not a good sign. :( :( Its now not to be found on Best Buy's website.... I now REALLY doubt that we'll get a giftset.

I had a feeling that the Best Buy link was not going to pan out. It was probably a stock link and I wonder if after a few phone calls to Disney from you guys, if Disney called the store or something and got them to take it down? If they'd not planned to do the gift set, I think it would have been too late to change their minds and within a month or so produce the gift set.

I will say this, based on what I saw last night at the showing at El Capitan, it seems surprising they would not do a gift-set for TLM. El Capitan was packed solid and there were more VIP seats then I've seen in all the times I've covered one of these events for UD... There were a lot of 30-something mothers there with their little girls and all the little girls dressed as princesses. We had to stand in a long line which formed in the side alley and went all the way back to the rear alley – the only other time I recall them forcing us into a line in the alley was for POTC opening weekend.

The panel was about 7 or 8 people and Roy E. Disney was in the audience and was asked to stand and take a bow. Unfortunately he was about 60 feet away in the dark so there was no way I could shoot a picture. It's the first time I recall him being present for one of these types of premieres (although I have only been to a handful of these). Jodi Benson (voice for Ariel) was there on the panel along with Sherri Stoner (the live-action reference model for Ariel) and they showed clips of both of them doing their various parts in the making of the movie. The directors said that Disney animators hadn't used live action models since Sleeping Beauty in the 1950s, but that they revived it for the making of TLM. The film footage and personal anecdotes are probably in the bonus material. At the end of the discussion, Jodi sang the song, "Part of Your World." They had an "Ariel" in the lobby so children could have their pictures taken with her.

I sat with Lella Smith, the Director of the Disney Animation Research Library and had a chance to talk to her about the recent discovery of some long "lost" Disney art in Japan, the Oswald cartoons, as well as my recent experience with the Snow White bootleg. On the other side of me was a young gal (about 20) who had just moved to Los Angeles a few months ago. She happened to drive by El Capitan one day about a month earlier, saw the marquee for TLM, and immediately bought herself a ticket. She said this was her favorite childhood movie and that her VHS tape of the movie had finally broken.

As I mentioned, I'd never seen this film before; I loved every minute of it and actually think the film could have/should have been a little longer. The finale fight scene seems to end kind of quick! The music is fabulous. I love the character "Sebastian" and Ursula is pretty funny for a villain. Somewhat evil, but not too evil to the point of scaring children (I guess). I thought they tastefully handled that whole issue of how she transforms from a fish to (naked) human being. I can't really give you an opinion of the restoration, since I'd never seen the film before and don't have any frame of reference, but the film quality looked acceptable to me. It definitely looks like hand-drawn animation. Some very early scenes looked momentarily grainy or washed out but like I said, I am not in a position to give you an educated opinion on what I observed. Maybe it is just a function of being 3 rows back in front of a super giant screen or maybe those scenes are intended to look that way.

After TLM, they showed the Little Match Girl, which is a major tear-jerker with a beautiful music score. I was trying NOT to watch it, because I didn't want to start crying again, after having just finished wiping away a few tears for TLM. As I was leaving the theater, a cast member stood at the door to the store/malt shop with one of those funny TLM sundaes in her hand. It was a weird blue color and had something on top that looked like a worm - but don't quote me on that! I had been there since 5:30pm and was really really tired and didn't get a good look!

Does it have dialogue in it or just the score?

No, there's no dialog, just a beautiful classical musical score. They didn't need any dialog to tell the story- it will break your heart.

Wow! I'm so jealous that you got to not only see it at the El Capitan, but ROY DISNEY was there!!!!! That's amazing. I saw "Holes" at the El Capitan and it was an awesome experience. I wish the panel discussion would be on the DVD, but it's probably too late for that now. I can't wait for the DVD. Is "The Little Match Girl" going to be a bonus feature? I've heard of it, but haven't seen it. If it isn't, is it or has it been released on another DVD?

Awesome! I was wondering if they had even completed Little Match Girl! I wonder what the future is for "Lorenzo" and "Destino?!"

"The Little Match Girl" is just so heartbreaking. I remember reading the story when I was a bit younger and just being so saddened. I can't wait to see how the short was.
