Disney died in 1966, Scrooge McDuck and Money was released in 1968. Okay, upon further research he is listed as a producer.

I will have to go update my list for some corrections obviously.

Don't forget that Bubble Bee and Jack and Old Mac are already accounted for.

I think one of the hard animated shorts to obtain will be "The Hot Choc-late Soldiers" since it was a part of MGM Pictures' "Hollywood Party"

That criterion would eliminate a lot of titles on that list.
I think that's one of the reasons why they have created "The Walt Disney's Legacy Collection"; to release stuff that was produced after Walt's dead.

PS : I hope MSS includes the (semi-) uncensored version of "Three little Pigs" as a bonus feature.

Which series to you think "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" would fall into?

...except that all (or nearly all) of the material on the announced Legacy Collection discs was produced prior to his death.

I suspect that most of the Disney company's decisions regarding naming their "collections" are made without any particular desire for consistency. One need only look at the deserting of the "Vault Disney" label or the "Masterpiece" label for examples.

I noticed that earlier in this thread, folks were speculating on a second Disney Rarities set and what could be included on it. We were just discussing this in another thread, and this is what I said I would like to see on such a set (And I know that Maltin said he wants to focus on material from Walt's lifetime, but he broke that rule bigtime for Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume 2, so I wouldn't worry TOO much about that):

My suggestion would be that they don't limit themeselves to theatrical shorts this time. The set could be "Walt Disney Treasures: Disney Rarities: Rarely Seen Disney Animation" or something like that. In fact, an eductional shorts set could also be under the Disney Rarities title. "Disney Rarities: The Educational Shorts." For this list though, I'll include only select Educational Shorts.

Destino
John Henry
Small One
Scrooge McDuck and Money
Hot Choc'late Soldiers
The Lone Chipmunks
Chicken in the Rough
Two Chips and a Miss
Figaro and Cleo
Figaro and Frankie
Bath Day
Susie the Little Blue Coupe
Casey Bats Again
Freeway Phobia
Goofy's Freeway Trouble
It's Tough to be a Bird
Jiminy Cricket's "I'm No Fool" cartoons (12)
Jiminy Cricket's "You" cartoons (8)
Dad, Can I Borrow the Car
The What Should I Do Shorts (4)
Sport Goofy in Soccermania
Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons
Harold and His Amazing Green Plants
Disney's Fluppy Dogs
More Alice and any Oswalds and/or Laugh-O-Grams if possible
One By One (on Lion King 2 rerelease DVD, I still need to watch this one)
The Cat Who Looked at a King (on the Mary Poppins 2-disc DVD)
Lorenzo (not sure if this ever came out)
Little Match Girl (not sure if this ever came out)

I could also see them including certain episodes from the Disney anthology series (like the aforementioned Fluppy Dogs) that feature lots of new animation. Some suggestions would be "Pacifically Peeking" with Moby Duck, any of the Ludwig Von Drake episodes, and, well, there's a lot to choose from. There's even the recent stuff I've harped on and on about, like "Totally Minnie" and "The Mickey Mouse Birthday Celebration" (don't remember the actual title, but something like that).

Oh, three classics that jump to mind are: The Ranger's Guide to Nature,
Coyote's Lament, and Carnival Time.

There was also a Timon and Pumbaa short where they sang "Stand By Me" that MIGHT not have been part of the TV series. I'm not sure. If it wasn't, then it should be included here. I'd also like to see the Genie's "Great Minds" bits from Saturday mornings, since they aren't likely to include them if the Aladdin TV series ever gets released. Any Disney commercials featuring new animation could be included on a set like this too.

A few of the wartime shorts could be included too, but I doubt they'd want to double dip on controversial stuff. There's also the Loch Ness Monster program that was an extra with the Pete's Dragon DVD, and maybe some films from the theme parks too, such as: Back to Neverland, from the old Disney Animation Tour in Florida. Plus, I'm still waiting for an "in synch" release of Runaway Brain....

There's also supposed to be a 50's educational short featuring Alice from the Disney feature film, but I don't have any info on that right now. It might be "The Nature of Things," but that could be a different one. Anyways, aside from this stuff, there are a ton of Educational Shorts to fill up an Education set, but it might be pretty bland if the educational stuff I've listed here isn't included too.

Oh, I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff too.

Thanks, DL. The reason I didn't include it is because it is on the "Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" DVD as an extra, but it would make a fine addition too. Still, I'd rather get the stuff that isn't available on anything else, especially since "A Day For Eeyore" is a longer one.

Ah, that Alice short is called "Alice In Communication Land". Just checked on it. Very interested to see that one. It's a shame it wasn't in the Masterpiece Edition of Alice in Wonderland. I really hope they do make an Educational Shorts Disney Treasures set. However, I want all that stuff I listed earlier too.

Your Host Walt Disney

Post by Mason_Ireton »

Really looking forward to this set in W.D.T collections, I hope they include complete episodes without clever editing, I'm really looking to seeing all the episodes that served as promotion for some of the films, they better gives us full complete episodes of The Story Of Dogs and Cavalcade of Song and there's uno episode that had pictures of Brer Rabbit and Uncle Remus behind Walt Disney. I'm guessing Your Host, will be the biggest sale for this year's Disney Treasures along with Pluto Vol. 2 and Silly Syomphy vol. 2

write back please

Well this is good news on both counts, the three Figaro shorts will definitely add to the low number of Pluto shorts!

Also the 2 Silly Symphonies I was most anxious about were Hell's Bells and Mother Goose Goes Hollywood so seeing that both of them get mentioned in the synopsis is great news!

If they are going to add the three Figaro cartoons then they might as well add Chicken in the Rough, The Lone Chipmunks and Two Chips and a Miss. Chip n' Dale, like Figaro, are also Pluto's nemesis'.

Pluto/Figaro Fueds: First Aiders/Cat Nap Pluto/Pluto's Sweater.

Pluto/Chip n' Dale Fueds: Private Pluto/Squatter's Rights/Food For Fuedin'/Pluto's Christmas Tree

It only make sense since the first volume had 28 shorts, this one should have 28 shorts as well.

They are already showing up for pre-order. One site (won't say who as they are not an affliate here) has them for $23.95 US each. So Amazon should have them up soon.

I think it's more obvious to have the C&D shorts on one of the later Donald sets; Duck v Chipmunks is a more common scenario than Dog v Chipmunks.

Oddly, it was only the other day that I was thinking the best place for the Figaro shorts would be on the Pluto disc. The psychic waves must be strong this month...

It only make sense since the first volume had 28 shorts, this one should have 28 shorts as well.
The figure that's been bandied about - 22 - is only the number of Pluto shorts hitherto unreleased. (Puts psychic hat on again) I'm sure we'll get Plutopia again, and probably any or all of R'Coon Dawg, Pluto's Party and Pluto's Christmas Tree. Add in the 3 Figaro shorts and we're at 29 already.

Including the Figaro shorts makes a lot of sense and is good news! A few MM/Pluto titles would also make sense - 22 could almost just as well be a single disc...

Well Disney's site lists the running time for the Silly Symphonies as 318 minutes.

By my calculations the remaings 38 shorts would have a combined running time of 278 minutes, so it looks as though all should be included.

As of just a few minutes ago, 12PM Pacific Time, USA, Amazon.com has the four Wave 6 Walt Disney Treasures DVD sets available for pre-order. I immediately preordered, even though they have no contents info yet.

The sets are not listed under the general Walt Disney Treasures title yet, but can be found under the specific title - More Silly Symphonies, for example.

The sets are available for $22.99, which is a good price for me.
