I think the argument I see here has to do with what exactly is the criteria for being a Platinum edition? is it the amount of money the film brought in in its day? Does anyone know what Disney's criteria is for putting a film into the Platinum series?

To me, it seems to be ones that were either historic or if they are recent films, they had to be blockbusters, correct?
The actual criteria for the PE was that the 10 best selling VHS titles should get the PE treatment.

Anyways, I also wanted to say, putting Make Mine Music and Melody Time (both uncut) together in a 2-disc set would be a great idea. Same goes for Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros. They could do that for Disney Treasures sets if need be. Same could work for Song of the South and So Dear to My Heart, and Ichabod and Mister Toad and Fun and Fancy Free.

Maybe it's just me, but i really wouldn't want tany of those titles to be packed together in the same case. i would like them all in their own seperate editions. That's partly because i'm one of those people that likes to put all their disney movies in chronological order of theatrical release, but i guess i don't like the idea of two or more movies being on one disc. I think they should package them together like they did for the Aladdin sequels. All really good single disc treatments with their over case's and new coverart!

Saludos Amigos & The Three Caballeros
Melody Time & Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free & The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

that would make me happy!

Well, that's kinda what I meant. Not for them both to be on a single disc, but each on one disc, whether packaged like the Aladdin sequels set or a Disney Treasures set. Actually, since I already have "Fun and Fancy Free" and "Ichabod," I'd rather they focused on the other four. I have them too, but they're edited on DVD...

Dumbo
What is up with all the single disc "special editions"? I would rather see an extensive 2-Disc.

The Aristocats
It's the last movie walt gave the "go ahead" to. I think it deserves a special edition, at least. The Gold Classic DVD is a very poor transfer and bare in terms of 'special features'.

The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh
Such a special movie, that has touched all generations. Pooh needs a special 2-disc edition.

The Rescuers
This movie is a classic, I would love to see all the behind the scenes special features hidden in the vault!

The Black Cauldron
This movie is amazing, it is looked over way too much. Make it platnium!

Mulan
The last real animated movie by Disney I remember really loving.

Robin Hood
Peter Pan
Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (cause I don't own it yet)

not sure what else

and.......
Sleeping Beauty has already gotten a nice 2 Disc treatment.
Pocahontas got a 2 Disc 10th Anniversary
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

Don't know why I never bothered replying to this until now, but I might as well.

Isn't 20 platinums asking for a bit much? I mean, I like the idea of platinum-quality bonus materials, but stretching the now-useless brand name really could do it more harm than good.

10 platinums over 10 years was a good idea. It made people EXCITED and ANXIOUS for the film.

When it became 14, and a release of 2 a year, I felt something was lost. Soon it didn't become as anticipated as before. You had a new Platinum within the span of 4 months of each other (October to Feb/March), and it made people say "They should do 3 a year and release one in June as well!". All of a sudden people were complaining that 2 a year wasn't enough, when the year before, they were grateful that they were getting one.

Now someone's asking, "Hey, what if we add 6 and make it an even 20?". 20 Platinums. Out of 45 Animated Classics. So essentially, we're saying that the best of the best is a little less than half of Disney's animated titles. Funny, I always thought best of the best actually MEANT best of the best, even if Platinum was designed with financial best in mind.

Adding 6 more, even if just in speculation, is diluting the brand name, which itself lost its special-ness with the move to 14.

Besides, Disney has proven before that they can give Platinum-quality treatment without using the label (Pocahontas AE, Sleeping Beauty SE), while at the same time, providing less-than-stellar treatment to an actual Platinum Title (I always felt that Cinderella PE was the weakest content-wise, while The Lion King PE was the weakest presentation-wise).

Even though I posted my list of PE releases I would like to see, I do agree with Escapay. The Platinum Edition DVDs are supposed to be the best of the best, and it destroys the purpose if Disney were to release 20 movies and say that nearly half of them are the best of the best.

Okay, if we're going to say it's strictly the best of the best, then my 6 choices from the list will be different. So, here's my 6 choices of the best of the best from the list in the first message, ignoring the fact that some already have 2-disc editions, and ignoring which ones NEED more complete editions. Not even going by favorites (because then I'd have to include Ichabod and Toad), just the 6 best off that list of non-Platinum releases, in no particular order...

Mulan
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Lilo and Stitch
Alice in Wonderland
Pocahontas (only if it's WITH "If I Never Knew You." That addition FIXED that movie, in my opinion. It badly needed it, and with it, it was wonderful!)

I tell ya, it was hard not to include some of those. I LOVE Tarzan and Hercules, among others. And maybe I'm the only one, but I loved Treasure Planet.

i love all there movies, but i know they don't all deserve the title of platinum edition, seeing that some are not nearly as good as others...if i could choose 6 more to be added it will be:

1 Alice in Wonderland
2 Dumbo
3 The Fox and The Hound (maybe)
4 Mulan
5 Tarzan
6 Lilo and Stitch

but the first two on my list are definites.
