The Little Mermaid, Japanese Edition

Post by Frozone »

OK, don't know if this has been brought up anywhere else, but I just have to show this, the Japanese cover art for The Little Mermaid. Why, oh why, can't the rest of the world get something as striking and beautiful as this?

Just totally buy it from Japan!

It's so fun getting sent things where the box is all written in Japanese.

Australia never gets good versions of releases so I just order everything from every other country.

Hooray for Japan. Woo.

Wow. I very rarely buy a DVD from another region JUST for the cover art, but that is a thing of beauty.

Off to Japamazon for me!

I simply love the Japanese cover art. In Germany this one was used in 1998 for the rerelease. And why not watch TLM in Japanese. I bet it sounds cool. :D

Well, I'll be ordering it for sure anyway, so I'll try to post some pictures when it arrives. It is my favourite Disney film after all, so there's my excuse for spending more money on it at least. :D

Ooh, sounds even more enticing! Can't see it on Amazon.jp yet.

Anybody know any other (English language) sellers of Japanese DVDs?

1st pressing means the 1st batch of DVDs off the assembly line. In Japan the 1st pressing of some DVDs come with an omake "Bonus" item. For real popular items the 1st pressing is already sold out at the preorder stage. Japan released Cinderella & Lady & the Tramp in 1 disc & 2 disc editions. They are probably just doing the same thing for the Little Mermaid.

Pfft as if its not worth $40.

If thats expensive then thats upsetting.

I've got 3 different versions from 3 different countries ordered.
Its about $150 total including shipping.

But thats the price you pay when you collect things.

Speaking of Nightmare Before Christmas...

As we all know that Japan does everything better...
So here's something for you Jack Skellington fans out there....

Awww, isn't it fun?

Yes, it ends up being expensive-ish including shipping, but who cares?

Since I know all you fans will be rushing to see the 3D version,
I know you'll fork out for the groovy coffin box, cute little figure
& his even cuter mini DVD he has there too. Aww.

PRE-ORDER IT NOW!

Here's a bigger version too. Aww.

Yes it will be $40 but it will only be $3 cheaper in Australia.

EzyDVD and JB Hi-Fi are listing it as being $37.83 so spending $3 extra for this much better looking version seems worth it to me.

...I bought a new cowboy hat at the markets the other day.

Though it wasn't $40.

Laserdiscs are cool....and by cool I mean not cool.

I have Nightmare Before Christmas on Laserdisc.
Though no player to play it.

How sad.

cool!

Now that's how they should treat their classics worldwide. This is so much better than the overall butt-ugly colors and off-model character covers we usually get. If anybody thinks that this appeals less to a kidseye then the regular covers he's not doing his job right. When I had something like this in my hands at the counter, I finally wouldn't feel slightly emberassed.
