if you could add 6 more platinum releases....

Post by stitcharielbeast »

currently, there are 14 titles in the Disney Platinum Collection, if you could add 6 more to make it 20, which movies would it be?

for reference, here are the 14 which are already in the collection:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Beauty and the Beast
The Lion King
Aladdin
Bambi
Cinderella
Lady and the Tramp
The Little Mermaid
101 Dalmatians
The Jungle Book
Pinocchio
Fantasia
Sleeping Beauty
Peter Pan

the films you can choose from are:
Dumbo
Saludos Amigos
The Three Calleros
Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free
Melody Time
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Alice in Wonderland
The Sword In The Stone
The Aristocats
Robin Hood
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Fox and the Hound
The Black Cauldron
The Rescuers and The Rescuers Down Under
The Great Mouse Detective
Oliver and Company
Pocahontas
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Mulan
Tarzan
The Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis the Lost Empire
Lilo and Stitch
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Home on the Range

if it were up to me, I'd add in these titles:
Dumbo - because it is the last of Walt's first 5 to not be in the list
The Rescuers Anthology - because it was a tremendous success that helped Disney regain money from Black Cauldron
Pocahontas - a marvelous technical achievement in music and acting
Mulan - a much loved instant classic
Tarzan - revolutionary film that is perhaps one of the best cinematic adaptations of the novel
Lilo and Stitch - the last big hit of the 21st Century

I'm not too bothered about the whole status thing anymore, but, if I had to add six titles to the platinum collection, I would nominate...

Alice in Wonderland
Dumbo
Mulan
Lilo and Stitch
Tarzan
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Fantasia 2000
The Fox and the Hound
Lilo & Stitch

If they were to add more PE releases, I know they would never add The Fox and the Hound, nor would they add Fantasia 2000 to the prestigious line, but if the decision was mine, that's what I'd choose.

My choices:

Black Caludron

Nightmare Before Xmas

James And The Giant Peach

Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh (truely needs a platinum)

The Sword In The Stone

The Aristocats

Robin Hood

The 3 Amegios.

Pete's Dragon

Those are my choices, I'm hoping they bring Pooh, Pete's Dragon and 3 Amegios to the Platinum line.

write back please

Dumbo
Alice in Wonderland
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Tarzan
Lilo & Stitch

These are the only titles I can see a.) having enough material to make 2-discs of interesting bonus features and b.) having enough popularity to sell decently under the Platinum banner.

Thing is, some of these already have what are essentially platinum editions produced in their two disc sets, such as Alice in Wonderland, Pocahontas, Mulan and Tarzan, I really don't see much improvement to be had there.

I'd probably select Hercules and Hunchback from the more recent films, particularly Hercules which sorely needs an anamorphic transfer.

The same could be said for The Black Cauldron, although I watched this the other week and I found it really difficult to sustain my interest in the movie - very dark, no really engaging characters, and no music - I love Disney music.

Of the older films, it's hard to say, perhaps Sword in the Stone, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo and the Aristocats? Or maybe 2 disc editions of Pete's Dragon and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

I'd welcome more extensive editions of all the movies, but I'm not sure they've all got popularity to make it commercially realistic.

So Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan and Pinocchio are all getting platinum releases now? I thought there had already been a decent 2 disc edition of Sleeping Beauty, though.

I was going to say something similar. I don't think any more movies are right for the platinum line. There's already 14! :P

Dumbo
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Alice in Wonderland
Robin Hood
Hercules
Mulan

The top three are really iconic Disney movies to me (up there with Cinderella and Pinocchio). The bottom three are just a couple other good movies. But if I were wanting to keep the Platinum line exclusive, I would've rather they had only 10 Platinums (like it was before). It's a nicer (and smaller) number.

to be honest i'm kind of shocked that Lilo & Stitch isn't already in the Platinum line. It made more than enough money to qualify it. Now as i'm typing this, a thought comes to mind....

Peter Pan is getting a Special Edition Release next year that is not being advertised as a PE, this is all very weird considering it was added to the Platinum line not too long ago. But then there's the Special Edition of Lilo & Stitch that has been delayed and delayed and delayed over and over and over again.... What if Peter Pan was taken off the Platinum line and Lilo & Stitch was added to it? That's going out on a limb, but i can see it happening for some reason.

Anyway, back on topic, i would choose...

Lilo & Stitch
Alice in Wonderland
Dumbo
Mulan
Pocahontas
Tarzan

yeah, if it were to have been really exclusive, they should have stayed with the original 10

What's this about Peter Pan being part of the Platinum line? There is definitely NO DVD release of this movie that even comes close...does that mean Peter Pan will be a Platinum release????

Yes, it will be a platinum. It's just being released for the Tink Movie, and then after that a platinum.

I hope Peter Pan is still a part of the Platinum line - This is a classic that deserves the best treatment....
