W.I.T.C.H.
Disney has brought W.I.T.C.H. to American shores. So anyone here looking forward to reading WITCH? Can you share your thoughts about it?

I am a guy, so no, I will not be reading "W.I.T.C.H." But there was an article in my paper yesterday about how Disney has plans to turn it into a series for Disney Channel. I will end up seeing the show, but won't read the books. The article was saying how great it is the Disney, "The leading exporter of children's entertainment," is importing it now. They obviousley didn't know that Disney has been doing this for a while now. ("Asterix and Cleopatra" and the Hayo Myazaki films)

						It's not a Disney movie or DVD......yet. I mean, it is a Disney property, as evidenced in what I've linked you.
Let's just say it's Sailormoon meets Captain Planet flavored with Harry Potter. That's the best description I can give.
BTW, bought three issues
 Cornelia, despite her being 13, is quite hot....

I don't think I'd be interested in this, but who knows, maybe the TV show could have some merit if/when it comes.

Disney's W.I.T.C.H. the animated series
I just caught a sneak preview of the cartoon series. It will premiere on ABC in January. It looks pretty good (can we say "zero Disney executive tampering"?) but I've been watching Winx Club before and you know that somebody's ripping off the other and you just dont know who.
Why cant Disney have more animated series like WITCH?

Now that the TV series has started, has anyone here given W.i.t.c.h. a second look? By the looks of this thread, you guys don't seem too impressed, LOL.
I first discovered the W.i.t.c.h. chapter book series while browsing Wal-Mart many many months ago. What caught my attention was the cover of the second book. Wow. I had no clue of the contents or even that it had anything to do with Disney, but I couldn't reisist picking it up just to see what the deal with it was.
The text inside was nothing to get excited about, but those comic inserts? Wow again. Now this is just my opinion, but those character designs were just so appealing and gorgeous to me. (If you know anything about me, you know that I'm a huge shoujo fan and this kind of stuff is right up my alley.) Here's a quick peek:
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... /will3.jpg">
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... /will6.jpg">
I began to wonder why we had chapter books when I could see it would work so much better as a comic. It would be many months later that I found out it was actually a popular comic in Italy. For some unknown reason, Disney decided to introduce it to Americans as the series of chapter books. My guess is that maybe they figured parents would be more approving of their little girls reading "real" books as opposed to "wasting time" on comics. And after digging a little more, it's obvious that when the comics *do* get released here this May, there are gonna be edited. Sigh.
I also began to wonder if it was all just marketing ploy to advertize for an upcoming animated series. . . it seems I guessed right.
I have the promo DVD of the first two episodes. Here is a screen grab:
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... tchtv6.jpg">
I think this pic is pretty representative of this show's production values. There is lots of detail in things like the contact shadows, the transparency of the wings; also, the animation is solid, the staging is decent, and it's a bit darker in tone than you might think.
It's not as good as the comic, as they made many changes in the story so far (probably to draw in the male audience & get the ball rolling) and the designs are quite a bit tighter (probably to ease the animation). Still, it looks good so far and I'm looking forward to seeing more. I'm hoping for an epic story like the first few issues of the comic has been hinting at.
So all I want to say is, take another look at this before you diss it. It's got a lot of action and adventure, a surprising touch of innuendo (although I'm not sure if that is good or not), and a fun fantasy element. Who knows, you might even like it.

I heard this too. Apparently they're going to be editing some shots of the girls naked (not porno naked but the "Magic Knight Rayearth" type of naked where the entire body is colored in a shimmering blue or something--usually associated with some sort of magical stuff going on) and editing pajama shirts to look longer or something to cover up shots of the edges of their underwear.Sunset Girl wrote: And after digging a little more, it's obvious that when the comics *do* get released here this May, there are gonna be edited. The art is beautiful, though. One of the best anime-ish animation to come out of a studio. And still it manages to retain that certain look that Western animation has.
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

I hope nobody minds if I post up a few more pics for the benefit of certain members looking for more W.i.t.c.h. pics for avatars and such.

[EDIT] I've added one more row of avatars at the bottom. I wish I could give credit to the site I found them at, but I grabbed them a long time ago and I can't seem to find the same site now.

My favorite character is also Will, but Irma comes in at a close second.

Since there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information about W.i.t.c.h. on this site, maybe I could post a few screen caps of the promo DVD? The other pics I posted were mostly from the comic, so you'll get a chance to see the differences in the designs.
It's still kinda hard to find any info on this series anyway, so a great Disney forum like this seems like a great place to post them

The girls get ready for action. Here we see Irma, Tarannee, Will, Hay Lin, and Cornelia.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... tchtv9.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
Here the girls are standing in front of a portal, and Irma is explaining why she likes the "new girl," Will.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... tchtv3.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
Hay Lin notices her wings for the first time.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... tchtv4.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
And Cornelia notices. . . something else, LOL! This scene raised some eyebrows.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... illTV4.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
I like the soft lighting in this shot.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... illTV1.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
I just put this one up cuz I think it's cool.
 Here we see Will using the Heart of Candracar so they can transform back to their civilian guises.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... /will4.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
Interestingly enough, there is a re-drawn manga version of the comic for the fans in Japan. It's a really cool combination of the original look mixed in with the typical Japanese Manga style! I have the first two issues.
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... /will2.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">
But I still prefer the look of the original Italian comic! I have an English language version of the first ten issues from the Philippines.
