Great Pooh review, Aaron! I'm afraid I'll pass on this one, though. As much as I love Pooh & friends, I'm afraid the DVD itself wouldn't be of any use to me. I'm am glad Owl makes an appearance, though; it proves Disney hasn't completely written the character out (yet).
There's one question that I'm dying to know the answer to, though. This Travis Oates guy, how good is he as Piglet? Does he sound a lot like John Fiedler, or is there a noticeable difference? I've just gotta know!

Thanks, Pasta!

Errm - I wish I was more qualified. It's been so long since I've seen anything else Pooh (and I haven't seen much) that I'm not the best judge. I thought he sounded more or less like the Piglet I've always heard.Pasta67 wrote:There's one question that I'm dying to know the answer to, though. This Travis Oates guy, how good is he as Piglet? Great job on the Brother Bear 2 review, Luke! Though the review is mostly positive, the bland result of the movie has made my decision easy on skipping out on this DVD release. I'd much rather save my money for the new Fox and the Hound release. Either way, a very enjoyable read. Your hard work here does not go unnoticed.

Great review of Talespin: Volume 1, Luke! I might have to give this one a purchase. It's been so long since I've seen these. It's too bad that there are no extras. Of course, I would expect no less, or more, from Disney, these days.
Thanks for staying up, and getting this posted. Now go, sleep, and dream beautiful dreams!

I'm looking forward to receiving my preordered TaleSpin and Darkwing sets from Amazon soon. It's no surprise that there are no extras. Disney is just trying to get the series on the market for those that want it and quickly! You know this is already selling really well on Amazon despite the lack of TV ads and that shows the great support the show still ahs after all these years!!! Extras are nice but I'm upset that there are no chapter stops on the TaleSpin set!!! That's so stupid and lazy on Disney's part!!!MadonnasManOne wrote:Great review of Talespin: Volume 1, Luke! Awesome job on the TaleSpin: Volume 1 DVD Review, Luke. I particularly enjoyed this sentence "People prefer Easter eggs to goose eggs." I can hardly wait until my copy arrives from Amazon tomorrow. I also enjoyed your Brother Bear 2 DVD Review. I think I will rent it.
Good job on the Gus DVD Review, Mark. I have never seen this movie, but after reading your review, I'll be renting it.

Excelent review of "Darkwing Duck, Volume 1". I have one criticism, though.
I don't know where you got that the Part 1 and 2 episodes were re-broadcasted October 17, 1991, I don't remember that and I don't have any source for or against to back it up, so I don't really have anything to say about this.
I can confirm the original film broadcast did include a "Darkwing Duck video" though. I have the final credits of the original version of the pilot and a voice over says "Stay tuned for a Darkwing Duck music video".
Actually, the television special "Darkly Dawns the Duck" originally aired as an hour-length film on the Disney Channel on April 6, 1991. However, the pilot film had to be edited for time and it was aired as Darkwing Duck's first regular episodes (as Part 1 and 2) on September 8, 1991 - the day the show started on syndication. The same pilot episodes that are apparently included in the DVD (I don't have it yet, it's still on its way).Aaron on Darkwing Duck's DVD review wrote:Further complicating the issue is the two-part pilot episode, "Darkly Dawns the Duck." It originally aired on September 8, 1991 as part of television special that also included a kick-off for the most recent incarnation of "The Mickey Mouse Club." According to Bill Cotter's The Wonderful World of Disney Television: A Complete History, it also included a "Darkwing" dance video.

Honestly, I think they way they did it is just fine. The ABC episodes broadcasted in 1991 are supposed to be Season 2, and somehow it makes sense they put the pilot first. Although, they should've included the uncut version.Additionally, it should be noted that even if the original version of the pilot had been included instead, one of the ABC episodes ("That Sinking Feeling") actually aired one day before the pilot special, so it would have come first. Confused yet?

My primary source was Bill Cotter's generally authoratative guide, which is cited in the review. Every reliable source I consulted holds up the 9/8 airing of the pilot special (which was two hours, not one) and the 10/17-18 airing of the divided versions that appear on the DVD. I haven't come across anything suggesting the April date. If you have sources for that, I'd be more than happy to consider them. Based on my research, I believe the review is accurate.Argenbrit wrote:Actually, the television special "Darkly Dawns the Duck" originally aired as an hour-length film on the Disney Channel on April 6, 1991. I do agree that it makes sense to put the pilot first, as I noted in the review. I don't think leaving the ABC episodes for later is a huge deal, but I don't think they were supposed to be "Season 2."Argenbrit wrote:Honestly, I think they way they did it is just fine. Thanks to all of you for your feedback. A lot of time and work went into this review.

I found some links online that state "Darkly Dawns the Duck" special was first aired on the Disney Channel on April 6, 1991. I don't know if you'll consider them reliable though.AwallaceUNC wrote:My primary source was Bill Cotter's generally authoratative guide, which is cited in the review. Albert, Nice work on "Commander in Chief Part 2"
I guess Mr. Larue's commentary wasn't done or wasn't yet ready for inclusion in part one, so it would make sense to tack on the pilot w/commentary as an extra for part 2.
Just out of curiosity (it doesn't really make one whit of difference), does the pilot episode only have the commentary track or does it have the regular soundtrack as well as an even extra redundancy?

And yeah, the pilot also retains the regular soundtrack (I'm guessing for people who don't want to pull out their Part 1 disc?)
