Yeah, it did, actually. Ariel's hair was about that shade of red, maybe even a shade lighter. The picture quality was also very smooth and crisp like that pic. Even though I'm pretty sure that's a promotional pic and not a direct film frame, it's a fairly close example of what I saw at The Disney Store.

I preordered my copy today!

I saw some of kiss the girl on the screen and my Disney Stores screen is VERY dark and not good with the new colors. It's a cheap little screen. However. I did notice a difference in the color and it looked really good. :)

The lithos are VERY cheap quality. They box the lithos are in seems like paper! What gives! :(

Will The Little Mermaid PE have good sales?

Post by jeremy88 »

I was just wondering if people think that the TLM:PE will sale good because I noticed on eBay that the limited issue is the highest selling DVD off eBay and people are buying it like crazy. Im worried that people will buy that crummy version and not buy the new one. What do you guys think?

yes.

do not underestimate the power of this film. It's much more poular than Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. It should easily become a huge seller.

Yes. It will! This movie is too poluar to not have a good sale. This will easily be the most bought movie of 2006.

The answer's a definite yes. I believe this will sell more copies than any other film in the Platinum Collection. The fact that it has the biggest ad campaign of any Disney DVD doesn't hurt, either. I'm already seeing Little Mermaid merchandise at Wal-Mart and Toys 'R Us that bear the Special Edition DVD logo on them whereas I didn't start seeing Cinderella merchandise last year till around mid-September. Since Ariel's the perkiest princess, little girls tend to fall in love with her more easily than with the others. This DVD will easily be in the top three of 2006 (Pirates can give it a run for its money, but not much else).

Well, my answer is yes, it will sell well, but it won't sell well as much as The Lion King or Cinderella, even as much as Cars or Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

Mainly for the fact you mentioned. This is the 2nd time it's been released on DVD, and generally speaking, the families who already have it probably won't double dip just for bonus features. And yeah, it does have a new transfer, but most soccer Moms can't tell the difference between the quality of DVD or a VHS.

So, while it'll sell well, I doubt it'd get in the top 5 most selling DVDs of 2006.

True, but remember that the Limited Issue DVD came out in an era where soccer moms were still buying VHS tapes for their kids. Those moms may see the ads everywhere and think, "Hmmm...we've already got the VHS. We don't need the DVD," until their child starts incessantly begging them for it. Plus, there's a whole generation of kids who haven't seen this film because either a) their parents aren't Disney fans and didn't care about the LI disc when they had no kids, or b) the parents were totally oblivious to the LI disc and think this is the movie's DVD debut. Most of the little kids who attend the school I work at have only seen this film there at school. They don't own it in any incarnation at home.

The Limited Issue disc was just that: limited. Not that many copies were made, and you had to buy a copy of Snow White for each LI title you wanted. Also, that first edition looked about as good as a VHS-to-DVD port, and it had no extra features (full color disc art does not count).

As far as most of the general public is concerned, this is the DVD debut for The Little Mermaid, and it will sell an amazing quantity of discs.

It definitely will be the most successful dvd of 2006. It's popular, it's beautiful and I still think that it's the best movie of all time! I just love The Little Mermaid!

No, that was just a promotion to get rid of the Limited Issues that weren't selling. DVD SRPs were a ridiculous $39.99 and like you said it wasn't really worth it with a bad transfer and "full color disc art," lol. That's why they were coming free with the Snow White preorder at the Disney Store since no one would buy them at that price and now that some were repackaged as Gold Collection titles.

I saw the restoration DisneyKid was talking about when I preordered TLM at the mall, but it looked even worse than our VHS because it was the old screen made up of about a dozen smaller screens. Some of them were black and others were so off color that no one could tell if it was restored or not. That's sad that that particular Disney store hasn't gotten around to fixing it or replacing it.

There's really no place for comparison. I remember reading how the Limited Edition and the Gold lines flopped and Disney barely shifted a million copies of a single film. They were citing the lack of promotion and bonus features as obvious reasons. Plus, DVD sets were still not as widespread as they are today. Definitely not. That was December 1999. And besides, those who bought the TLM DVD back then could have bought the VHS that was out as well. The fact remains that a hugely popular film is released to a whole new generation of kids and other throngs of loyal fans who await this release, add to that an immense promotion campaign, and bang, you get one of the biggest selling DVDs of the year.

The site has been updated

Post by Disney Live On »

For those who don't know what actualized means: The Little Mermaid internet site has been officially upated today with all the fetaures- minus a few video clips (which I have been hanging out to see for months)- hopefully they'll be put up on the site soon but in the mean time check out the official DVD bonus features listings and other cool details about the DVD release- plus relive all the great songs and lines which they have been highlighted in sections of the site.

Enjoy!
