Dang! I only have BBC! Not any other BBC channels. I wonder if it will be on that channel, too.

Sad to say, it won't be. This is only on the British channel BBC Two (there NilesTheSequelofDisney wrote:Dang! I only have BBC! Not any other BBC channels. I wonder if it will be on that channel, too.

And whilst we're on the topic of David Hyde-Pierce (what with a username like drnilescrane), A Bug's Life (he voiced the stick insect) is on BBC One (there, I did it again) at 3:30pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

I recorded it on dvd last time it was on the BBC. I was quite surprised by how good the film is. This film should be released on dvd. If it they put one of those 'impossible-to-skip' Lenoard Maltin intros before it no one can say they were offended as this is a film produced in a different time.
I think if Disney continues to refuse a dvd release, they also need to stop shoving the characters and the zip a dee doo da song in our faces because it only continues to spark interest among fans. It's very contradicting.

Is the showing of the film in foreign countries something that Disney has or has not control of? If they do have control of this, I guess they feel that blacks in other parts of the world would not be offended? Any theories or perspectives on this from those of you who don't live in USA why it is routinely shown abroad?Luke wrote:It boggles the mind how Disney can deem Americans unfit to have the movie released on DVD and yet Europeans are treated to routine broadcasts from time to time.

Yes Disney has full control of SotS throughout the world, it gets regular TV broadcasts and has been released on VHS at least 3 times in the UK and i don't know how many time throughout Europe. I would hazard a guess that the reason it doesn't cause as much offence outside of the US is because the situation presented in SotS the wealthy deep south plantation owner with black wokers going out to work in the fields is just something that is a sore point for America as a whole. That's not to say that slaves weren't used throughout the rest of the world, but most countries realised they were wrong and slavery was abolished peacefully in the early 1800s. Whereas in the States the abolishment of slavery came about 60 years later. The topic of slavery still seems to be a sore point for American society, but as far as the UKat least is concerned on the subject of slavery is just a thing of the past and is forgotten.Pluto Region1 wrote:Is the showing of the film in foreign countries something that Disney has or has not control of?
