I could've sworn that the big alien woman refers to him as 'Mr Pleakly' in the movie
.

He is male, but he is named Wendy.

Well it depends on what you mean by gender.
He is sex is male.
His gender could be classified as male, female, masculine, feminine, transgender, transexual, or even something like metro sexual.
The reality is that with certain episodes, he's probably about as close to a homosexual character as one will find in Disney.

Not all effeminate males are gay.Edge wrote:The reality is that with certain episodes, he's probably about as close to a homosexual character as one will find in Disney.

That could be taken so out of context!Wikipedia wrote:A possibly explanation for Pleakley wearing womens clothing (skirts, dresses, long wings, etc) could be due to his third leg.

I think that Pleakley is just meant to be a gay stereotype that could entertain more mature audiences*, yet is subtle enough to not be too off-colour for children. His voice and mannerisms (such as dress wearing) are truly on the camp side, hence the girl's name.
*speaking of Pleakley being gay, if you ever see the rare director's cut of Lilo and Stitch like I did, the flamboyance of Pleakley is only the beginning of a hedonisitic Hawaian rollercoaster. I'm sure that if he sees it, Loomis will love it more than the theatrical version.

No one said they were.Finchx0rz wrote:Not all effeminate males are gay.Edge wrote:The reality is that with certain episodes, he's probably about as close to a homosexual character as one will find in Disney.
But the direction they are taking "that" particular character (mother comments about not finding the right woman, fascination with women's fashion, cross dressing, certain conversations he's had, etc.) is as someone else mentioned probably meant as something that kids won't totally get whereas adults (or younger adults) will understand.
No more, no less. This isn't meant to turn into a sexual orientation debate or effeminate versus masculine, so hopefully it doesn't turn into one.

In the series episode Fibber, Pleakley's mom and children comes to visit him.. it was revealed that Pleakley is the last name of the character and that Wendy (according to Pleakley's native language) means "Great Warrior".. not to imply he was feminine.. though another joke is that Pleakley's sister (I forget her name dresses like a man).. I know that was suppose to be an in-joke to Pleakley's voice chararcter I just forget what..

Why does it matter? Mulan cross-dressed, and no one seems to care.

Mulan did it to save her father. Pleakley wears wigs because he thinks they look good on him.TheSequelofDisney wrote:Why does it matter? Mulan cross-dressed, and no one seems to care.
Am I the only one seeing a difference?
Anyway, I'm actually surprised that some religious church hasn't yelled up about this yet. If they aren't going after Harry Potter and his evil cult one day, it's Disney's erection-towers the next. Geez.

the miserable, the lonely and depressed. Pathetic?

The characters who voice Pleakley & his family are all the same cast members from Kids in the Hall- an old TV show that is sometimes still on Comedy Central.starlioness wrote:In the series episode Fibber, Pleakley's mom and children comes to visit him.. it was revealed that Pleakley is the last name of the character and that Wendy (according to Pleakley's native language) means "Great Warrior".. not to imply he was feminine.. though another joke is that Pleakley's sister (I forget her name dresses like a man).. Yes- Pleakley is a MALE- & is fascinated by human fashion for both male & female- he can pull of female fashion as good as male fashion.

Remember thoughout the series he dones both male & female fashions...but is introduced to Lilos friends as AUNT Pleakley & Jumbaa is UNCLE Jumbaa.
In a few episodes Stitch was introduced as Lilos friend Kenny.
