Walt Disney Legacy Collection / True Life Adventures on DVD!

I'm thrilled that these True-Life Adventures are coming to DVD. I look forward to replacing my VHS of these wonderful nature films with DVD quality picture and sound.

I do hope this Dec 5th release doesn't delay the Walt Disney Treasures - as expensive as both releases will be - I want BOTH. I don't want the Treasures delayed.

BILL W, here's info on the following:

Emperor Penguins - 11 minute live-action short released 13 Oct 1955. It documents the life and habits of the Emperor Penguins.

Mysteries Of The Deep - 24 minute live-action short released 16 Dec 1959. It documents the strange underwater creatures who live among reefs.

Nature's Strangest Creatures - 16 minute live-action short released 19 Mar 1959. Australian wildlife is explored, including kangaroos and duck-billed platypus.

Islands Of The Sea - 28 minute live-action short released 16 Mar 1960. It documents wildlife of various island, including the Galapagos.

I have seen all of these and they are very well done. Hopefully all this will be released as planned.

Thanks Jebsdad! I'm really looking forward to this set. These anthology episodes seem to really compliment the shorts and features. It seems there were a few more that could have been included in the set as they seem to be related to the series (but perhaps there just isn't any more room on the discs). What are these episodes about?

ichabod, already in the existing listing are short subjects and a film that is not under the True Life Adventures banner, so I don´t think it´s strange that they have chosen another name for this collection

It gives a brief synopsis of each ep.

2/29/56 A Trip Thru Adventureland - Look at adventureland in particular the Jungle Cruise attraction. Could this possibly be inculded as an extra on the future DVD of the future Jungle Cruise film? This is only 25 mins half an episode.

9/12/56 Antarctica - Past and Present - Navy expedition to the south pole narrated by Winston Hibbler

9/19/56 The Great Cat Family - Cats thorughout history from their origins in ancient Egypt.

2/27/56 The Crisler Story - the Problems encountered by the Crislers whilst filming 'The Arctic Wilderness'

6/5/57 Antarctica - Operation Deepfreeze - continuation of story from Antarctica past and present, an update of the navy's activities.

11/13/57 To the South Pole for Science - Afurther continuation the 2 Antarctica episodes.

Here's what I'm wondering... why do you think Disney felt the need to brand these under a new umbrella (Legacy Collection) vs. releasing under the existing Treasures brand?

Price point? Distribution? Packaging?

Seems reasonable enough, IMO. They are two-disc sets, after all, and we get discounts from a lot of stores.

But, of course, with these and the WDTs released pretty much at the same time there's going to be some spending, but probably well worth it!

Tannerman - its Four two disc sets. I would think the answer would be it is just too much volume for the Treasures to hold. There may only be three more years of Treasures left.

And for my 100th post, what can i ask but nothing less interesting than..... does any one know more specifficaly what 'collectable packaging' means. It's not a treasure tin, so what have they come up with for us suckers that can't get enough, now.

Maybe it will be a flip open book like gimmick that plays a tune when you open it. Like those musical christmas and birthday cards. LOL!

From my own background in marketing and pr, I'd guess something won't be coming out on the 5th (Treasures).

If for no other reason as most marketing people would make the argument that it's too much product at once and will canabalize itself.

While I would be saddened if the Treasures were postponed, I'm truly happy that we are finally getting the TLA's and bonuses on DVD. These will be a must buy along with all of the Treasures.

From the end of August through the end of December should be a big moneymaker for Disney DVD.

"Collectable packaging" recycled biscuit tins like treasures, or melted down siezed pirate dvds turned into plastic cases (Well that would be a good cause for them) Any other suggestions where the marketing team can flog us special cases to up the price ?

I'm excited that DavisDVD reports that these are 'The first in a series' that 'debuts with The True Life Adventures'! it certainly sounds like more is on the way! Fingers crossed for the People and Places series and the live action featurettes!

I know all you people are happy about these and I am glad for you but aren't these old nature shows?
Wouldn't a lot of the info be outdated not valid anymore? Like watching old national geographic specials.

I think not, I have the laserdiscs also, these are great movies, special because you see stuff that you don't see on national geographic though.
