Bridge to Terabithia (2007)

Post by Joshrzmeup »

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but when I did a search for it on the site, nothing came up. I've never even heard about it before. If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize.

AnnaSophia Robb Cast in Terabithia
Source: Variety
November 10, 2005

AnnaSophia Robb (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) has landed the female lead in Bridge to Terabithia, Walt Disney Pictures' and Walden Media's adaptation of Katherine Paterson's Newberry Medal-winning children's novel, reports Variety.

Published in 1977 by HarperCollins, "Bridge" follows the story of an 11-year-old boy whose life is changed forever when he befriends the class outsider, a girl (Robb). Together they create the world of Terabithia, an imaginary kingdom filled with giants, trolls and other magical beings.

Gabor Csupo will make his live-action helming debut on the movie, which starts filming in February in New Zealand for a spring 2007 release. Jeff Stockwell is writing the screenplay.[/b]

I've been following the developments on this project since I first heard aobut it who knows how long ago. I was wondering when it would show up at this site and no one ever seemed to mention it so I thought there were no other fans of the novel or anyone anticipating it.

I can't wait! I wonder if Disney will release the original 80's Disney Channel version?

I have to pick up that novel again since I lost mine when my basement flooded back in 1998. :(

Great book. My 4th grade teacher read it aloud to us way back when--I never saw it coming & nearly cried in class. It's nice to see the company taking on a project with some serious gravity...my wife is concerned they'll try to graft on a happy ending.

I've only ever seen Anna SophiaRobb in Charlie but she seems to be pretty talented. Any word on who might play Jess?

I loved the book as a child, but that poster does not do it for me. The boy looks terribly unhappy, and the blue lighting is a bit off-putting.

I'm not saying that this can't be a great movie, just that marketing has failed in my eyes with this poster.

Having not read the novel, I can't comment on the faithfulness of the artwork, but I will say I like the somewhat '80s-vibe to the poster.

A standalone live action Disney movie based on a well-known book... this conjures up Tuck Everlasting and Holes, which I liked and kind of appreciated, respectively. In short, I'm looking forward to the movie and have moderately high hopes for it.

Thanks for posting this picture, Sofaking!

To me, the boy's face is fairly neutral. It just appears that he's looking at whatever she's looking towards. Knowing what happens in the book, and the personalities of the children, I think it fits. He was introverted and shy, while she was the open and energetic one.

Looking at it again, the blueish hue makes him look like a zombie from a Dario Argento movie. *LOL*

Well I was expecting a poster of a more epic nature, but this poster does have a certain 'magical' feeling to it conjured by the deep blue and the evening setting. I'm still really looking forward to this!

That's Violet for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I realize that it is a drawing, but she looks a lot older.

The colors and overall feel of the poster seem right with the theme of the book. I look forward to this remake (as I once saw an older version that was pretty pitiful).

The poster is ok; but when I think of the book I think of greens instead of blues.

I read the book a couple of years ago, and it was pretty good, the poster really doesn't look very fantastic, but that doesn't mean that the movie will be bad. So, I will keep a positive attitude toward this, and hope that it will be as good as the book.

It looks liek the boy saw either something gross or a dead body. Who are the kids anyway? New Faces? Because they look like people I've never seen before.

I think he looks just puzzled or surprised. Anyway the boy is from Zathura & RV while the girl is from Because of Winn-Dixie & Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Wow, I like the poster. I seems kind of mysterious. I've never read the book and I have no idea what this is about (I'm very under-cultured, aren't I), so I'm eagerly anticipating this, purely based on the actors, the poster, and the hype surrounding it.

I know that the performance and overall acting is key, but the girl cast as Leslie is all wrong. So is the one cast as Janice Avery. The only casting so far that I think is good is Robert Patrick.

WETA is doing effects for the movies, and I think that's going to detract things as well.

I'll still see the movie, but I have a feeling that the PBS production that was made years ago is going to be better.

Having actually never heard of said book, the poster looks intriguing(sp?). I assume this means we'll get a teaser with Invincible on Friday, or at least that's what I'm hoping.

It's actually not the first Bridge to Terabithia, I think. I remember on the last days of 5th grade we watched a movie based on the novel becuase we read the book. I highly doubt it was a theatrical release and it was probably a direct to video sequal made a long time before.

Anyway, the book is really sad. :( (no spoilers here)

It was aired on PBS, I think. Annette O'Toole played the teacher. It's available on DVD.
