As for theatrical movies, I've seen Brother Bear 3 times...but will stop there. I did love it. My favorite film of the year, despite any critical weaknesses it might have. Emotionally and artistically, it appeals to me more than Finding Nemo (which is also a great film; I got the DVD on Tuesday). But, anyway, that ties my record for most times I've seen a movie in the theaters. I also saw Lilo & Stitch 3 times.

I will see Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World next Saturday, in the theater, of course.

Today I got Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on DVD. So now I have all the Platinum (it really amuses me how everything is some kind of "platnium masterpeice two-disc special gold collector's edition," or some kind of variation, at least it seems so; it may annoy some people, but it amuses me)...now have all the Platinum releases. Mulan is still on order at Borders...

Well, not that anyone cares, here's my comments:

Finding Nemo : The film was a letdown after all the hype and fuss (although I'll admit the chances are this wouldn't be an issue had I had chance to see the film when it opened in America). DVD is disappointing too.

Winnie The Pooh - Seasons of Giving: Quick flick. Nothing much to say until we watch it properly. Noticed lots of reused animation clips at the beginning of what I did watch.

Batman - Mystery of the Batwoman: Well, this has to be the weakest animated Batman film yet, but it was still fifty times better than the trash Warner put out for the live-action bat-movies (except Batman Returns). Why they don't just let the animated team write and produce a live-action film is beyond me. :?: In fact this would make an excellent live action movie itself - if only for the three lovely ladies in skin-tight lycra!

The League of Gentlemen Series 3: Well, this is the surprise of the week - being a stronger disc than the Nemo release in terms of extras. And yes (if any UK readers care) the League do explain the ending with the circus animals and now it makes perfect sense :?: :!: :?: Still, the Christmas Special is still the best the League's done.

I'm Alan Partridge Series 2: Not yet viewed. But it's another stealth 2-disc set from the BBC.

A mild week this week - X-Files Season 8 should have arrived from Amazon, but they sent me somebody else's order! So a free replacement is (once more) in the post.

This weeks it's all UK R2 television DVDs!

Ali G In Da USAiii Complete (includes bonus unseen footage disc)
Dinnerladies Series 2 Complete
Creature Comforts Series 1 Pt 1 is in the post.

Amazon.Com shipped:

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers EE
Frank and Olli
My Big Fat Greek Life
Sinbad - Legend of the Seven Seas
So hopefully these should start to trickle in at the end of the week.

Do you get to keep the order that isn't yours? I've heard that US laws enables you to rightfully keep anything that is shipped and addressed to you even if you didn't order it, as a gift.

Of course, common deceny may stipulate others and it could be really crappy stuff they sent you, too.

No I get to keep it. Basically (reading between the lines) because they don't have a proper overseas returns system in place.

So I now have a Matrix Reloaded FULL SCREEN DVD (given to a friend at work) and a Dane Cook CD/DVD combination pack.

Can't say I've ever heard of Dane Cook. Is he big over in the States?

Eh? This hasn't been updated for a while. What's happening MMB? Disney releases may be thin on the ground now, but the season is peaking for all other releases.

Anyhow, a massive week for me this week. In the past 7 days I've got the following:

2 Australian Discs from Loomis! One of which is a 2 disc set with 6 hours of content!

- The Best of the Late Show (R4)
- Bad Eggs (R4)

An Amazon.Com shipment that took a while to arrive (and sadly, I had to pay duty on)

- Battle of the Planets Ultimate Boxset (R1)
- Space Ghost Coast to Coast Season 1 (R1)

And a number of UK discs

- Pirates of the Caribbean (R2)
- Legally Blonde 2 (R2)
- The Alien Quadrilogy (R2)
- The Amicus Boxset - The Studio That Dripped Blood (R2)
- Bo' Selecta Series 1 and 2 Boxset (R2)

Good job all my Xmas shopping was completed in September. :)

A few comments:

The Late Show is bizzare; Battle of the Planets is cool (love the mechandise gallery), but I miss the G-Force episodes that were on the single disc releases; Pirates of the Caribbean is marketed as a Disney film, but the sneak peek is for Bruce Almighty, which isn't and it has no "Disney DVD" logo; Alien Quadrilogy is "Da Bomb"; the packaging on the Amicus boxset both rocks and sucks at the same time; Bo' Selecta is "Proper Bo I tell thee". Thank you please.

- The Woody Allen Collection: 8-Pack

Is this the French Muppet Family Christmas? I have this and I believe it is edited. I don't know for sure, being as I've never seen the American original showing.

Well I just posted to inquire about this on the Home Theatre Forums a few days ago because I've also heard that it's edited, however, I've heard that it is a far more complete version than the current R1 US edition of the television special which has been totally hacked up and butchered. Do you know specifically which scenes were edited? My main motivation for picking this one up, other than the rumors of it being a more complete version than the US edition, was for the inclusion of the second feature, "The Christmas Toy", which to date has not yet been released in any other regions on DVD. Can you post which segments you found to be missing from the DVD?

Btw, I'm referring to the UK edition and NOT the French version which is supposedly nothing more than a really bad transfer of the chopped up R1 master and from what I've been told, is almost unwatchable.

The information that I've recieved from the Muppet Central Forums indicates that this DVD does seem to be more complete than the US versions, I'd just like to know whether The Christmas Toy and A Muppet Family Christmas are presented on seperate discs...

I'm sorry, I honestly don't know. I'm in the UK, and as such have never seen the original. I don't think it was ever shown over here. Remember we had a different actor playing Doc in Fraggle Rock over here, so the American Doc who is in the bulk of the programme, would mean nothing to the UK audience. That said, they obviously showed it in France and I'm pretty sure they had their own Doc too.

I only warned you about it being edited because I seem to remember reading about it somewhere. Anyhow the runtime on the case is listed as 42 minutes (remember PAL speedup will mean this is probably closer to 45 minutes).

I seem to have a different disc than yours - there's no supplement on mine apart from sing-along songs. No Christmas Toy unless it's hidden - but it's pretty hard to hide a 50 minute programme!

Mine was in a twin pack with Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas:

You'll be pleased to hear there's no forced subtitles on either disc in this twinpack.

Update

I've just seen your second post. You're right. A UK edition slipped out this November I wasn't aware of.

Blackstar list the running time as 70 mins, which obviously doesn't include the 50 minutes for The Christmas Toy. I may just pick this up myself soon.

Hmm... the packaging's really nice but I'm guessing that's the same R1 master transfered that I just mentioned. I'm gonna start a thread over at Muppet Central Forums right now actually to inquire about all of this.

Here are all the cut scenes from the R1 version: http://www.muppetcentral.com/help/faq/c ... es.shtml#9

Do you notice if any of those were cut from your French version as well?

BTW, Do you own the UK Muppet Treasure Island disc also? I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it was released in anamorphic widescreen with the same bonus features as the US edition and I believe the R1 DVD is in foolscreen a.r. Just wondering if you can verify that?

Thanks!

I don't own it (or have even seen it), but all reports I've read do indicate the UK Muppet Treasure Island is widescreen.

Muppet's Christmas Carol is full screen over here and all over Europe. Don't be fooled into thinking the German version is widescreen. This misunderstanding comes from an inaccurate press release from Disney Germany. The disc when released was full screen.

As for the French release, I think the Fozzie/Snowman/Rowlf musical number may be included. I can't say for sure - it's a long time since we watched it.

I'm gonna try to get some information on it right now and I'll post an update for you on what I find out. I believe it is a more complete version but I'm not sure how it can be 70 minutes as I'm almost certain that it doesn't include an extra 30 minutes of running time, unless previews and supplementals, etc are accounted for in those numbers. I will also try to find out if it is a box-set with 2 seperate discs or simply a double-feature which I doubt it would be. I'll post all the info as soon as I find out...

Amazon.co.uk list the running time as 97 minutes - which must include the Christmas toy. This would make the run time of each about 50 minutes.

They also quote reviews saying the runtime is 42 minutes (but these are likely to be taken from the US Amazon site)
