from ultimate disney's main page a little while ago!
"We've got a high-resolution look at what is probably as close to the actual cover of The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition DVD as you're likely to see before October and it's all yours right here.
In case you haven't noticed, Disney has recently carried over their practice of issuing fake Platinum Edition artwork to all of their output, leaving e-tailers' images to often be fairly crude representations of the final product.
We'll continue to try our best to bring you the actual cover art when possible and not merely these cartoonish mock-ups."

I went to the Disney Store yesterday and pre-ordered the Little Mermaid. I got the lithographs but I didn't like them much, and they aren't the same as the ones shown on DisneyShopping.com. But, I did like the lithograph box to carry them in; it's a high-resolution picture of the cover.

It's cute, but cluttered. Plus the fact that we have the hero, the villainess, and the father all in the same spot.

I was wondering if anyone could answer this. If I preorder the dvd at Disneystore.com will it arrive on the release day or a few days after? Also, magicalwads, what scenes were the lithographs of when you got them at the store? Thanks!

^^ i really like that cover! ^^
i dont even mind all the characters being on there
i think its really really well done!
except when i looks at it i can see that one of her
eyes is bigger than the other. but its still nice

i hope that aussie gets a really nice cover too!
im allowed to hope and pray!
but if it is the US cover then its ok too i guess
it is just a cover after all...

the bonus features are what matters!
im just hoping we get everything the US one has...
yay i have TLM DVD!

if you look at the collectors pin closely its the danish dvd cover...

maybe there were quite a few real promotional pictures made and each country gets a choice of which one they wish to use for the dvd???
yay i have TLM DVD!

I know what you mean. I was disappointed with the Cinderella lithographs I ordered from DisneyShopping.com because they were so flimsy and the quality of the art was pretty sad. It makes it look like the movie was terribly animated. I guess they made them before the restoration. On the bright side, Cinderella lithographs are actual frames from the movie as with all the other Platinum lithographs, except for Snow White which were obviously promotional art and redrawn frames.

Also the "portfolio" they come in was nice on the front, but the back was just a copy of the DVD cover with things blown up and moved around. I liked Snow White's and Beauty and the Beast's portfolios because they kept the same layout, were incredibly well done, terrific quality, and were consistent with each other. I liked how the back had a symbolic object from the movie. Aladdin was closest in trying to keep the same layout on front and back, but it was the first one to be just a glossy print on thick paper. I think the person who designed The Lion King portfolio did Cinderella, while someone else did the rest and maybe Lady and the Tramp, which is very nice when opened.

 Lol, sorry for going off topic with my Platinum lithographs review.

Anyhow, I hope to go the mall soon so I can preorder The Little Mermaid and maybe find Animaniacs Vol. 1 for a good price. Do they have the plushes and pin there too? I like that the pin has the Danish art cover! It's pretty cool. As soon as I get my lithographs, I'll post pictures of them unless magicalwands does it first.

p.s. If anyone has an extra Bambi lithograph set, please PM me!!! It's the only one I'm missing!! Please and thank you! :)

Cool. I absolutely love the Ursula one! Sebastian looks freaky though on the last one.

All you have to do is go to ebay.com and paste the number jrboy gave us in the search box on the homepage. But here they are anyway so no one else has to go through that process. (ETA: the link messed up the page, so here's the actual picture. It'll probably disappear when the auction is over).

Thanks for the "link," jrboy! :)

Some have obviously been touched up if you look at the larger pics on the page of the actual auction. Anyhow, they're not that bad, but I'm disappointed that they didn't go for the ones advertised. Those scenes were a lot more memorable than the ones we're actually getting, but at least there's a villain lithograph this time. It bothers me that the layout for the portfolio didn't try to maintain that of SW, BatB, and Aladdin, but I shouldn't complain since they brought the preordering back to the Disney store! :)

Well there are two things Id like to say.

One is that I was at K-Mart today and as my sister and I were leaving she says "look, its Ursula"... I turned around and there was this HUGE display of M&M's and other chocolates and it had pictures of Ariel, Ursula, Sebastian, and Flounder and it had the platinum cover and it said "Make a splash this halloween" and on one part of the display it had pictures of the red and yellow M&M's and the red one had crab claws like sebastian and the yellow one had a blue and yellow mohawk kinda thing made to look like Flounders "hair". It was awesome.

Two, I was searching the internet to see if I could find any pics of this but instead came across this: http://www.giftapolis.com/dilimechandt.html It must be one of the new and many products coming out for the platinum edition... Its going to be a great next couple of months with Ariel everywhere. :D :ariel:

Sorry for sounding stupid, and I know this is off-topic, but what are these Lithographs?
In Australia, when you buy a DVD, thats all you get. A clear DVD case (not black) a cover, and the discs inside with a Chapter Display on the inside cover.
Even a Movie with a slipcase is a rare find, and we can't get those Platinum collectors Box Sets with everything in them :(
So what are these 'lithos'? :?

For the Platinum's here in the USA if you go to the Disney store or buy it online from Disney as a pre-order you'll get those lithos along with your DVD. They did it too for Stitch! The Movie and maybe some others also.

A litho is short for lithograph, which is a special type of printed piece of artwork. I could try to it explain it further, but this page does that better than I ever could:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithography

A search on Ebay for "Disney litho" will show you what these look like in real life.
