Although in all honesty I'm not really that bothered 1 disc or 2, I doubt I'll but Cars until it's at a bargain bucket price anyhow.
i thought that even movies like home on the range never made it to the "bargain bucket" since disney seems to think every one of their films is a classic.

This is sad news indeed if it's only going to be a single-discer for a while. I probably won't buy it if it's going to be 30 dollars though. $30 for a single-disc DVD is a little much I think, and I'm even uncomfortable paying $20 for a single-disc release.

The cover art doesn't bother me too much though, it could be better, but it could be much worse too. I did like the CD cover a lot more though

Sorry if I'm a bit slow, but I've come to relize something- it's only been the most recent three Pixar films that have got a 2 disc set right as it came out. To my knowledge, Toy Story 1 & 2 and A Bug's Life all recieved single disc releases at first and then collector's editions were released later. You might think this would have to do with the growing popularity of DVD, but no. Those three films were all directed by Mr. John Lasseter, while the ones that got 2 disc CEs right away were each directed by Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and Brad Bird (respectively). Now, I like Mr. Lasseter and think he's the closest thing we've ever had to Walt, but I can't help but noticed, Toy Storys 1 & 2 and A Bug's Life were all directed by him and they only got single disc releases at first then upgraded to CEs later on, and now that he's returned to the helm with Cars, than I guess that's what happened to that one as well, it makes the four Lasseter helmed films seem a bit connected on DVD.

Actually, if I remember correctly, only A Bug's Life got upgraded from a single disc to a 2-disc set. Both Toy Story films made their DVD debuts in The Ultimate Toy Box, which had a third disc devoted to supplements for both films (which then got split in half for re-releases last year). When the Toy Box went out of print, the single disc editions (which were either released at the same time as the Toy Box or shortly after) were around for a while before they, too, were gone. A Bug's Life was released as a barebones disc first because it was one of the first Disney DVDs ever released (it didn't even have the Disney DVD logo on it). So I don't think Lasseter's part of some double dipping scheme. From what I've read, the people involved in DVD productions have little to no say in the matter of how it's released. That's usually left up to the marketing department (and makes me wonder if there were more meaty supplements prepared for Nemo before Disney went through their stupid 1 disc for families, 1 disc for film fans phase).

What I was saying is that the three Lasseter films have all been single discs, either with an upgrade or whatever that came later or right away. And if I remember correctly, the Toy Story films when they recieved individual releases came as single discs only, then last year got the upgrade. But what I was really mentioning is that the film Lasseter did not direct only got 2 disc sets each. So, Cars looks like it'll have a single disc avalible.

Now, the other day, I sent an email to the address from Disney that someone posted, with my concerns about the cover and the number of discs and this morning I got a reply:
Thank you for your e-mail regarding CARS.

CARS is tentatively scheduled for DVD release November 7, 2006. Technical details are not yet available.

We appreciate hearing the opinions of our viewers, and will forward your comments to our Marketing Department.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

That was the response I was sent, as well, Buzz Lightyear.

It does give us a slight bit of hope, as it says technical details are not available, yet.

I emailed them and got the same reply as above.

Hey MadonnasManOne, I think we should get as many people as we can to do this. I've already started to tell my friends at school. Should we alert other DVD boards to email Disney as well?

Sounds like a plan to me. I think we should let as many people as possible know about this, and give them the information to contact Disney and Pixar. Unity in numbers!

Honestly, I don't think any amount of effort is going to get Disney/BVHE to balk on this. This will undoubtedly be one of their biggest sellers of this year and they've obviously thought it through. Even with all the online support you can trumpet up (and many will be just fine with a modest single disc release), it won't compare to the millions who will buy <i>Cars</i> in November regardless of bonus features and bit rate. I think it's pretty apparent that Disney/Pixar/BVHE will serve up our demographic, but not for about another 10 months or so. Very lame. Only thing that would make it lamer is if not all the extras are carried over. And then I guess those not in the know (or not believing the double-dip scenario) will complain if everything <i>is</i> carried over, like <i>Narnia</i>. It's sort of a lose-lose situation for everyone, except Disney will still make enough of both releases to probably put <i>Cars</i> in the same ballpark as <i>Finding Nemo</i> or at least <i>Incredibles</i> when home video spending was a bit more than it is now and titles could reach higher numbers.

I honestly don't see why people are getting completely bajerk about this.

I mean, writing letters and boycotts are not going to help for sure. Boycotting would simply imply to Disney(or any company) that you don't WANT a mutiple disc set(look at the joke I made a while back). Just the same though, it wouldn't help as a few die-hard Disney enthusiasts like us that go to sites like ultimatedisney.com are a very small minority compared to thousands of soccer moms who spoil their kids by buying every single "children's DVD" that comes out and people who hate "widescreen" because "they put the black bars on top" who will buy it.

Now since it's already a success at the box office(maybe not what they expected, but successful enough to pass X-3 and The Da Vinci Code) there's no doubt the DVD will be successful on Home Video, meaning there HAS to be double dip sometime in the not-too-distant future.

So why is there so much hate? If you know there's going to be a double dip and will pass on the DVD, that's fine(that's exactly what I'm planning on doing) and if you love the movie so much and can't wait, then you can easily buy and, in a way, support the 2-disc set. However, "boycotts" and "letters" will go nowhere and you'd just be wasting energy.

Maybe this is all in vain, but, I really don't care. I'm going to do everything I can to support a cause I believe in. In this case, even if it is a waste of energy, at least I'm TRYING to do something about it, rather than just complaining about something, and not trying to do anything about it. I'm even creating a petition, along with MagicalWands help, to send to Disney/Pixar. I'll post the link to the petition, soon. You can think I'm wasting my energy, all you want, but, I feel strongly about this.

The petition has been created. Please read, and sign. I will be sending this to Disney/Buena Vista Home Entertainment/Pixar.

I'm pretty sure the disc will have been authored by now - it takes a lot of effort to schedule in disc pressings. Especially for the multiple-million copies that Cars will have. For all we know, its probably been replicated already or will be in the next few weeks. Remember HomeMediaRetailing has a review copy of The Little Mermaid already.

The last months of the year up until Christmas are busy periods for disc sales - and not all of them can be replicated 4-6 weeks before release.

But it is worth telling Disney why you're not buying the release if you choose not to, because otherwise they'll just assume it's down to lack of interest. And if they falsely assume there's too much lack of interest, the 2 disc set might never happen.

Oh, and while we're at "speculating" on a 2-Disc release (because that's all it is at the moment, but I'll admit it seems likely) where's Chicken Little's *Ducks*

Oh actually, final thought - and more serious. Where's the R1 2-Disc Lilo and Stitch? Perhaps the lack of 2 disc sets for Chicken Little, and the lack of 2 disc re-releases for Lilo and Stitch and Tarzan, even though the latter two have special feature complete are signs of a trend... of which Cars is just the latest victim.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

This sounds possible, maybe the studios are already focusig on the upcoming High Definition releases instead of releasing spectacular editions of all new releases...

When I came out of the theater after seeing "Cars" for the eighth time, there was a guy selling 'bootlegs' out of the trunk of his car. All the current titles were available for $25 a pop. Not one to support these guys, but anyway, I picked up "Cars", and to my surprise, it is really a great disc. It has what appears to be a 'film-chain' print of the movie, and it has a great 5.1 soundtrack. Yeah, it is missing special features, but I think it will get me through until the 'official' release of "Cars" comes in November. I will buy it, regardless of whether it is one disc or ten discs. This is Pixar's best film in my opinion. There has been no other movie to get my bucks that many times as "Cars".

Oh, and I passed on copies of "Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest" and "Invincible", along with a ton of other films he had available.

So, they're just sending out the same email, with the each of our names attached to the top, dammit, this is even worse than giving a terrible release for such a great movie, but to not even care what the fans think, that's extremly sad.

Well if Pixar makes Cars 2 and it's direct to DVD Bill would probably not get it even if it's a great sequel.

I loved a comment that came from "Samuel" who signed the petition.

"Dinsey is CHEAP! Pixar needs to part ways with you guys! YOU SUCK!"
