That's me - I've probably got the biggest, or perhaps the only collection in this forum, of unopened never viewed Disney DVDS... mostly because I've got no time to watch them. I sure hope they work when I finally can afford the spare time to watch them.Lars Vermundsberget wrote: Someone who pays more (even much) for an unopened title years after it's gone is basically gambling - even though, admittedly, most DVDs are all right.
I'd say the sort of (not "true"?) collector who prefers a shrinkwrapped copy in the collection, should keep it wrapped "forever". If you open a disc for the first time years after, it could "blow up in your face".

Yes, and it works at least in my case! Horrible but I do like to have the slip covers. On the otherhand, as you can see, I haven't bought Nemo, Monsters, etc because I can't find them with slip covers, so to some degree, its also backfiring on them!Lars Vermundsberget wrote: The Disney marketing people have every reason to be happy, then!

Even though I'm not very interested in the DVD slipcovers, and the lack of one certainly would not make me not buy something I'd otherwise buy, I think it's a bit harsh to call them "trash".memnv wrote:I think it is dum not to buy a movie because there is no slipcover, They are just a piece of trash anyways
I've got the "Fantasia" book by Deems Taylor from 1940. Like on most copies of this book nowadays, the dust-jacket is missing. I saw a copy WITH the dust-jacket on eBay a while ago. I think the price was $1500 or so. No deal this time...
I don't know about the "expectations" for the DVD covers, but the point is that the superficial piece of paper can sometimes be valuable.

All right, but the way I understand it, they're not unopened because you're a collector of unopened DVDs...?Pluto Region1 wrote:That's me - I've probably got the biggest, or perhaps the only collection in this forum, of unopened never viewed Disney DVDS... mostly because I've got no time to watch them. Quite some of my DVDs also stay in the "to watch" stack for months, sometimes more than a year, I'm sure, before I get around to watching them. But I still open the discs the day (or week) I get them - for inspection. At least I don't want to find out months (or a year) later that the disc is seriously scratched - or there is no disc at all.
But what you do is up to you, of course...

I wil never sell my Treasures though. I did not buy them for investments, I bought them for keeping.littlefuzzy wrote:Mr. Toad wrote:Every slip cover and tin I have bought so far has gone to recycling. Just taking up shelf space unnecessarily.![]()

I can *kind of* understand someone throwing away the slipcovers... They are a limited thing, and later on the discs are sold new without the slipcovers. However, I can't believe that someone would throw away the tins!! For instance, the Walt Disney Treasures would greatly increase in value with the tins, since there are so many bootlegs out there without the tins. Sure, the first couple of waves also had the Costco box set, which didn't come with tins, but many collectors want the tins to have a matching set.

sorry to bump, but just an update on this - about a week ago we went into our local Game Stop and I was able to purchase used copies of The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., Nemo and Brother Bear (looked like someone walked in and unloaded their kid's Disney DVDs) and got the Incredibles and Nemo with the slipcover. (yes and I checked about the Monsters - no slip cover came with it according to the thread on this subject). Also it was a half off sale so I got all four DVDs for $35 (including the tax!)Pluto Region1 wrote:I still have not bought Nemo, Toy Story I, or Monsters Inc. Hoping to find copies with the slip covers on them (I know, its a long shot - maybe a Warehouse Records or some place like that will have them).
Anyway, the most interesting part of this was the fight that happened while we were in the store. Some deranged man with his wife (or girlfriend) and 7 or 8 year old boy were in there playing a video game at the door and the kid went to sit down on the floor. The store worker told them that he couldn't park himself on the floor like that in front of the door. the man started going nuts and yelling at the store clerk about how dare he talk to him that way and who does he think he is! He said "Oh you think you are a bigshot because you work here!" Then he kept challenging the guy to call the police, "Call the police and have me arrested!" as he threw what appeared to be some type of very small memory card (?) at the clerk! He even challenged the clerk to go outside and fight! It was pretty crazy. Several people left the store during the incident. I heard the whole exchange and the store clerk was never rude to the guy. The guy then accused the store clerk of being racist because he (himself and his kid) were Mexican. However this was the most ridiculous part since the 2 guys who work at Game Stop were both Mexican or of Hispanic decent. In fact they got a good laugh about that one once the crazy guy and family finally left the store.

Question about Slipcovers
Well first off, I’m back! I haven’t posted on here in forever!
Today I called the phone number to order slipcovers (I recently got Tarzan:SE and Lady and the Tramp:PE from DMC and both came without covers) saying that I didn’t get them when I ordered them. However, the women I talked to was very rude and told me that they can’t ship out slipcovers to just any one and that if I wanted one I would have to go out and buy another copy of the DVD. She did however say that if mine was damaged and I could get one, but I would have to send in the damaged slip cover AND the receipt showing I actually bought the DVD.
Has anyone else had trouble ordering slipcovers? I had to order an insert one time from them and they were very nice and sent it right out.
Is this just a new thing not to send slipcovers?

I don't really know where to put this, but what's the number to order a new slipcover? Do they still give out slipcovers? Yesterday I put my Mulan dvd in my backpack, along with my lunch, for some stupid reason, and it's ruined...so I want to replace it, if I can. I hope they don't ask me for a receipt...
Hate to sound like a broken record....but the number is in the first post. More recent posts in this thread and another indicate that Disney has been more reluctant to give these out lately. But if you have a damaged one, they should be willing to replace it.brownie wrote:I don't really know where to put this, but what's the number to order a new slipcover?
Read the post directly above yours for recent information on the very question you asked.
I bought a copy of Bambi II today without the slipcover, I sure wish I could get a hold of it.
