That belongs everywhere (it's so funny)... besides, reading those comic covers is more entertaining than watching any of the Superman movies. How many times do you think Superman can kill/betray Lois, Jimmy and various other innocent parties? On the other hand, for Superman's Pal, Jimmy sure tries to kill Superman alot; same goes for Lois, apparently being Superman's girlfriend.memnv wrote:that does not belong here
Why is it nobody can make a decent Superman flick? SR had the right cast (esp. Spacey), the right director... but the writers slammed it down. The first 2 old movies, however much some people choose to delude themselves into thinking good, were horribly cheesy and suffered from awful directing. Since when, exactly, did Superman have a "kiss away memory power"? Verisimilitude? I think not.
I'm hoping Spider-Man 3 redeems superhero movies after the wasteland this summer's entries have created. Singer should've waited to do SR until a decent script could be found, and saved X3 while he was waiting. Unfortunately, we got crap on all fronts.
Looks like My Super Ex-Girlfriend is going to be this summer's best superhero movie... sigh.

The confusion continues on this. TheDigitalBits.com has posted that the 14-Disc Superman Legacy Collection may now happen, afterall.
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#superdetails
Okay... after making my Superman box set post earlier this afternoon, I've received even MORE confused e-mails. So I decided to go right to the source to help you all understand what's really happening with the whole 8-disc vs. 14-disc thing (just forget what I said earlier - in fact, I've deleted it from the post). I contacted Warner Home Video today about the whole Superman box set issue, and here's the real skinny: Basically Warner sort-of announced earlier in 2006 that they were going to be releasing a massive 14-disc Superman Legacy Collection box set with all the films and other materials... and then at Comic-Con the studio finally announced only an 8-disc Christopher Reeve Superman Collection box set. So people were left to wonder, what happened to the 14-disc set? Was it cancelled? Did the plans change and is the 8-disc set all we're getting now? The latter is what we had, in fact, been told by a number of sources and it was the logical conclusion to make. But according to the Warner Home Video representative I contacted this afternoon, there MAY still be a larger Legacy Collection release. However, it's not certain to happen, it's not yet officially announced and there are some issues that have to be resolved before it can come to fruition. Hopefully, things will play out such that we'll know more sooner rather than later. In the meantime, however, what IS for sure is that the 8-disc Christopher Reeve Superman Collection box set will street on 11/28, along with a separate release of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut. As for Superman Returns, it will be officially announced in the weeks ahead.
So to summarize, you're getting 8 discs plus the Donner DVD for sure, along with Superman Returns (TBA, but likely due out by the end of the year), and there MAY still be an even more elaborate Superman DVD box set in 2006 or 2007, which hopefully we'll know about soon. And that's official. Sort of. It's at least as much as can be officially confirmed as of now.
Got it? Okay. Whew!
And on that perplexing note... stay tuned...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All I can say is, if the 14-Disc set is being released, it had better be released, or at least announced for release, by November 28, 2006. If they release everything as planned on November 28th, and then go on to announce the 14-Disc set after that date, I'm going to be very upset!

Well, Warners UK have penciled in an 8 Disc Set and a 12 Disc Tin for the same day (Nov 6th in our case).
Now, I'm sure the 12 disc tin is to include "Superman Returns" (2 discs) and The Director's Cut of "Superman II" (1 disc) and either "Supergirl" (1 disc) or "Look Up In The Sky" (1 disc).
Warners cannot be expected to announce a set featuring "Superman Returns" now, not when they still want it to continue to do business at the theaters. I'm a little surprised the Christopher Reeve collection has been formally announced to be honest.
I wouldn't worry about the lack of news for a more comperhensive set until "Superman Returns" is officially announced on DVD. After all, we're still waiting for announcements on "Adventures of Superman 5&6", The Kirk Aylen "Cliffhanger" Serials and more "Lois & Clark" and (Lord help us) more "Superboy" too. I've even got my fingers crossed for a Superfriends release before the end of 2006.
The Year of Superman is not over yet!

OK - this appears to be the UK Superman release plan (from play)
Superman 4 Disc Special Edition

Superman II 3 Disc Special Edition

No Seperate Re-releases of Superman III or Superman IV

Superman Returns 2 Disc Edition

(notice neither is called a Special Edition, meaning a re-release is likely in the future, as with Batman Begins)
Superman 9 Disc Set

(It's gained a disc, presumably the Donner Superman II)
Superman 13 Disc Set
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/1112992/ ... oduct.html
(Presumably the "tin" and its gained a disc too - Donner Superman II? I also think the other 4 discs are Superman Returns 2 Disc, Look Up in the Sky and Supergirl)

So the UK will be getting 2 disc releases of Superman III and IV? Will be have extra supplements over the single disc US releases? Well, at least it includes the Donner cut of Superman II.This 13 disc monolith of a box set brings together Superman new and old in one fantastic boxed set. Featuring awesome special editions of the original four films plus the 2 disc version of Superman Returns this is the ultimate compendium for the true Superman fan.
The boxed set comprises:

Talk about this whole situation, for whatever region you live in, being confusing! Region 1 still hasn't gotten any further information about an Ultimate Box Set, but, I do know that Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace are only going to be single-disc releases for Region 1. I also know that Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut is not being included in the Christopher Reeve Superman Collection. It has to be purchased, separately. I guess it is cool that the UK will be getting Two-Disc Editions of Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, for those who are interested in picking up those titles. The U.S. releases of those two films are going to be extremely light on bonus features.2099net wrote:OK now I'm super-confused!

On top of all of this, an official announcement has not come in regarding when we will get Superman Returns. That is my most anticipated DVD release, since Disney has screwed up the release of Cars (which WAS my most anticipated DVD release). I hope that Superman Returns will be announced, soon, and that it will be available the same day as the other Superman titles.
*sigh* No Superpup or Adventures of Superboy on Adventures of Superman 5&6. Oh dear. Another childhood wish destroyed.

Superman Returns will probably be announced either during the last week of August or surely sometime in September (no way will they announce it in October). Warner will most likely release it on the same day as the first four films -- as seeing that happened with the Batman franchise last year. (The Digital Bits says the tentative street date for SR is 11/28, the same day set for the Superman re-releases.)MadonnasManOne wrote: On top of all of this, an official announcement has not come in regarding when we will get Superman Returns. The film will also get a Blu-ray release as well as HD-DVD. And as seeing that the UK will get 2 releases of Superman Returns on DVD, we will most likely see the same here in the U.S.
And it's safe to say we will get a packed edition of Superman Returns -- we will get all 28 of Bryan Singer's video diaries, deleted scenes, and a 2-hour documentary detailing how the film emerged from production hell when Singer took on the project. (And for sure we will get a commentary from Singer himself, and if we don't I'm gonna be ticked off.)
Well, here's "proof" you are getting a 14 disc set:
http://www.supermancinema.co.uk/daily_p ... ndex.shtml

Behold the image! (Many thanks to the wonderful www.supermancinema.co.uk site - well worth a visit; it also shows the Spanish 13 disc set, so Europe at least will definitely be getting a larger collection, even if its not for order on Play.Com yet)
Notice it says "domestic 14 disc, Int' 13 discs" so it looks like you even get an extra disc. R1 "wins" again. So looks like everybody's happy.
Note: There's a lot of confusion on this site, the supermancinema site and many others, but I strongly believe NOTHING HAS CHANGED. If you look at the first post in this thread by MM1, it has
"The Superman Collection, The Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition"
as part of the huge list. They have always planned 2 collections. All that has happened is they are not releasing details about the Ultimate set which contains Superman Returns, until they finalise and announce the Superman Returns DVD (which is only fair). I expect it to be revealed any day now.
Stop Press
OK, I thought the Play listing with the 2 disc versions of III and IV was suspect. The Spanish 13 disc set is as follows and can be viewed here:
http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?name ... e&sid=5565
Superman Returns 2 Discs
Superman I 4 Discs
Superman II 3 Discs (includes Donner's DC)
Superman III 1 Disc
Superman IV 1 Disc
Look Up In The Sky 1 Disc
Superman: You Will Believe The Myth 1 Disc
It also comes with a comic reprint (presumably resized) which is (probably) Superman: The Man of Steel #1
(I assume the title is Man of Steel, and being the post-Crisis relaunch comic, it makes sense. I also assume the 7 on the website is a typo and it is infact a 1)

From the order of the discs, I'm guessing they're the following:
Disc 1 (which is shown both on case and in the row, though the row is a blank right half) - Superman: The Movie 1979 Theatrical Edition
Disc 2 - Superman: The Movie 2000 Expanded Edition
Disc 3 - Superman: The Movie Bonus Disc 1
Disc 4 - Superman: The Movie Bonus Disc 2
Disc 5 - Superman II Donner Cut
Disc 6 - Superman II Lester Cut
Disc 7 - Superman II Bonus Disc
Disc 8 - Superman III (easily seen on the label)
Disc 9 - Superman IV
Disc 10 - Superman Returns
Disc 11 - Superman Returns Bonus Disc
Disc 12 - No idea, it's got Richard Donner on it, so I'd like to guess that it's the Donner cut, but then what's Disc 5?
Disc 13 - Look Up in the Sky! Documentary
Disc 14 - You Will Believe the Myth Documentary
It looks like the person who has the image purposely cut off the arrow's and the box that describes what Discs 5/6 and 9 are.
I'm still pissed off that they're not including Supergirl in the Superman set. And still pissed that they're not providing both versions (125 international and 140 director's cut), or the 50-minute documentary. Hell, I'm pissed that the only extra for Supergirl (international cut) is the commentary and trailer. Makes me even more mad that I don't have the Anchor Bay 2-disc set.

The covers look tacky and uninspired. By comparison, the Batman SEs are a model of elegance and restraint... Warner would've been better off slapping a "Special Edition" or "Deluxe Edition" moniker on the old covers instead of the tacky, Photoshopped art they came up with here.
By the way, the art for the Donner cut and the boxset can be viewed here, which is the official trailer for the new Superman DVDs. The Donner cut art looks a lot better than the one for the 2-disc special edition.

The covers look to similar and to cheesy even The Ultimate Superman Collection covers looks better.
Looks like Warner isn't going to change the cover since Warner going to claim they don't have time to change them.

Man, so many awesome releases and I want them all, but it kinda stinks, because I already have a 2-disc Supergirl and the old Superman DVD boxed Collection! I want this 14 disc set though, and I wonder what the new release of Supergirl will have...
Also, I like what someone said before about them making another Supergirl movie. They SHOULD. Maybe with Kirsten Dunst if they use the oldschool costume, or someone like Kirsten Storms if they use the white top costume with the white gloves.
Anyways, my priority is to get Superman Returns, and I may have to settle for the movie by itself. I mean, this sounds like it's going to be a pricey set, and there is so much coming out (my income is still in a transitional state). I mean, more importantly, I have 4 new Disney Treasures to get, no to mention Gummi Bears, DuckTales 2, and Rescue Rangers 2. This holiday season is going to be insane...
Definitely gotta get all the animated Superman stuff and the rest of Batman (I only have Volume one of Batman the Animated series, the Last Son of Krypton DVD, Brainiac Attacks, which I haven't seen but hasn't gotten good reviews, and the Justice League pilot so far). I also still need the Batman Special Editions boxed set. I do have the old release of Batman, plus the Batman Movie from the 60's and the 2 disc deluxe edition of Batman Begins. That movie was so awesome!

Update: When I click on the link in my order history, its now listing "Superman: The Christopher Reeve Collection (Tin) (9 Discs)". Its also cheaper than the non-tin collection they still have on their site. Is this just an admin error, or have Warners dropped the 13/14 disc set? (I can't believe that they have, while other countries in Europe still seem to be getting one)2099net wrote:I've just been sent this about my UK 13 disc Tin order:ChoicesDirect wrote:You placed an order with us for 681613 - DVD - Superman - The Collection (Tin Boxset) (DVD).

The massive boxed set (regardless of however many discs they have planned), is not happening this year. According to TheDigitalBits.com, America will get the 8-Disc Christopher Reeve Collection, plus the individual releases of Superman II: The Richard Donnor Cut and Supergirl. They state that the boxed set is still being planned, but, it's likely not going to come out until further down the line.2099net wrote: Update: When I click on the link in my order history, its now listing "Superman: The Christopher Reeve Collection (Tin) (9 Discs)".
