BURBANK, Calif., November 10, 2003 – Walt Disney’s magical, fun-filled animated classic ALICE IN WONDERLAND, the beloved childhood favorite that has captured viewers’ playful imaginations
for more than half a century – comes to DVD in a fantastic bonus-filled two-Disc Masterpiece Edition
on January 27. An exciting addition to Disney’s extraordinary collection of available DVD Special
Editions, the highly anticipated DVD release includes a newly discovered Cheshire Cat Song “I’m
Odd” and the one-of-a-kind all-new Virtual Wonderland Party, a special feature that allows viewers to
play games, sing songs and dance along with their favorite characters, for the first time ever on a
Disney DVD.
Presented from a beautiful newly-restored audio and video high definition master, the exciting release
offers an expansive slate of cutting-edge, virtual materials and great bonus items, which include an
original Mickey Mouse short feature, a unique Walt Disney behind-the-scenes and an in-pack
Wonderland Card Game, offering concentration-style image matching fun for the entire family.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND Special Edition DVD is priced at $29.99 (S.R.P.).

Based on Lewis Carroll’s beloved children’s book and one of Disney’s most ambitious productions for its time,
the imaginative classic embraces the magic and whimsy that made the original story a permanent volume in
childhood libraries. Disney’s 1951 animated film brought the adventures and dynamic characters of ALICE IN WONDERLAND to life and its spirited songs helped earn it an Academy Award® nomination for Best Scoring
of a Musical Picture. The movie features the voice talents of Kathryn Beaumont (“Peter Pan”), Ed Wynn
(“Mary Poppins”), Richard Haydn (“The Sound of Music”) and Sterling Holloway (“Winnie the Pooh”).

ABOUT THE DVD FEATURES

The exciting ALICE IN WONDERLAND Masterpiece Edition DVD features the newly-discovered Cheshire
Cat song, “I’m Odd” – recently uncovered in the Disney vault, it’s a whimsical and fun tune that Walt Disney’s
team created but didn’t include in the movie. This marks the first time it has ever been released. Hosted by the
Mad Hatter, the one-of-a-kind Virtual Wonderland Party is a cutting-edge bonus feature that allows viewers to
play games and interact with animated characters from the film AND live-action kids, to create a virtual party of
their own. Activities in the Virtual Wonderland Party include “The Mad Hatter Says” game, “Conduct the
Teapot Orchestra,” a chance to blow out candles of an “Un-Birthday Cake” – and allows viewers the chance to
sing and dance to “Silly Songs” and solve “Mad Riddles.”

The bonus-filled DVD also allows viewers to sing along to memorable songs “The Un-birthday Song” and “All
in the Golden Afternoon” while the words and memorable musical scenes from the film appear on screen. Kids
of all ages will enjoy “Adventures In Wonderland” an all-new set-top game themed to the movie, where viewers
match wits with the Cheshire Cat to help Alice find her way home!

The ALICE IN WONDERLAND Masterpiece Edition DVD also features great collectibles for audiences of all
ages, with the original 1936 Mickey Mouse animated short “Thru the Mirror,” which follows Mickey as he falls
asleep while reading Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” book and experiences his own magical adventure.
As well, fans will love a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the movie with “Operation Wonderland,” an exciting
featurette about the making of the classic animated film, and one of the original episodes of “The Alice
Comedies,” created by Walt Disney in 1923.

WOW! This sounds great!!
And I do beleive that we will get many more extras than the press release states. Usually, this "much more" really includes MUCH MORE!
And I'm glad we are getting the original mono soundtrack and that the movie is untouched.
A great adition to our collections!
Come Pocahontas! Come Lilo! Come Dumbo! Come Mary! Come Aladdin!! :D

Let's hope Disney doesn't stink on this one as he did on The Lion King and The Rescuers... and that they don't add any new songs...

:) :) :)

i wonder what this new song is......i've never heard of it before.....is it on the special edition laserdisc? also, i'm a little leary about the emphasis of the virtual wonderland party, the sing along songs, the set top games, etc. however, i'm very excited that they mention original theatrical trailers....meaning more than one......

it's cool that they are adding an alice comedy. what about the other songs that were not included on the film, but on the laserdisc. will they be on this set? please let it be so.

i'm a little bummed, that they didn't even mention the disney christmas special......one hour in wonderland..........please oh please let this be on that disc.

otherwise, i'm getting very very excited for this one. nice scoop luke ;) thanks

I'm Odd Song - As the press-release says, it was recently discovered, and it even wasn't on the LD.

Deleted Songs - Most of them (if not all of them) certainly will be on the DVD.

One Hour in Wonderland: It was confirmed that it will be on the disc.

It is a little disconcerting that "One Hour in Wonderland" isn't mentioned in the press release or Disney's site, though.

I'm very curious to see how the A/V quality on this disc differs from the Gold Classic disc now that it's THX certified with 5.1 sound. I'm still at a loss as to why "I'm Odd" is on disc 1 with the kiddie features as opposed to disc 2 with all the other abandoned content. Perhaps there's enough animation completed that Disney believes children will be interested? Hmm...no mention of virtual galleries. They must've spent all their CGI money on the Party instead of galleries. Ah, well, at least we get galleries, period. Like I've said many times before, the only things this set needs are audio commentary (which I'm still having hope of there being one putting to mind what happened with SB and TLK DVD's) and a new "making of" featurette, but that's being picky. I'm content with what's offered here and am anxiously awaiting this release. :D

Yeah, it worried me a little too. It was one of the main reasons I was pickinng it up (the other reason being it is Disney, and it is buy-able).

Mind you, I don't think the commentary was mentioned on the Sleeping Beauty press release, and that was obviously on there. I think Disney just has a habit of neglecting to mention the most appealing features for fans on their press releases.

I mean, why would they want people to actually go and spend money on the things they've made?? :P

P.S. I was very excited to notice this was post #1234. Hee hee hee....

The only language mentioned for this release is English. Since it resembles "Sleeping Beauty - Special Edition" it might have hidden French and Spanish Language tracks just like in that DVD. I'm really used to watching the film in Spanish.

It says that on Luke's press release, but the one in the Disney site doesn't. Who to believe?

Any news on whether the new song will be integrated into the film or simply featured as a supplemental option?

I will also be extremely dissapointed if the One Hour In Wonderland docu. isnt featured...

As for the games, I count a number in the Virtual Teaparty and a number in the Adventures in Wonderland sections. When will they stop?

It would be interesting to see how much time and money were spent on these set-top games. I bet it's way more than any money spent on cleaning up the LD contents for DVD :x

I'd have to say, that list of supplements looks a lot shorter than we were expecting. What about the radio shows for example?

Still, it all sounds "exciting" I suppose.

I do believe there's a lot more offered on this set than what they're listing. Remember how vague they were with TLK's meaty supplements but all descriptive with the fluffy ones? I think this has happened again here. If we don't get most/everything from the LD (minus the music only track since we know that'll never happen), then I'll be very dissappointed. As of now, though, I'm just grateful we're getting an Alice: SE, period.

There's eight "Exciting"s in that press release. I hope the kiddies can handle such excitement. (And us oldies too - I'd hate for Disney to be responsible for a rash of heart attacks, high blood pressure or other stress related incidents. Just think of the class action suit!).

Seriously, it's odd that no where does it mention "informative" or "educational" or "historic" or similar. Where does Disney's priorities lie. It's also odd, as noted, the One Hour in Wonderland isn't included on the PR. Even if it is though, this new 2 disc set it missing a modern documentary. I suppose we should hope for an Audio Commentary to provide the proper Making Of details.

Still Original Mono sound
