Ichabod, do my eyes deceive me or do those blurry backcover scans for The Moonspinners and The Incredible Journey say "Widescreen Format"???
I so hope this is true. I am now region-free and may have to order these from across the big pond.
Amazon-UK doesn't have specs for them.
What about That Darn Cat? Do you have a backcover scan for it?

Yes the art does say widescreen, however:
1) They may only be mock ups, so the information may not be correct
2) BVHE UK lies! A lot!
3) BVHE UK don't seem to take much care with catalogue title specs.
Also despite the fact that these titles are officially available, nowhere has them. I suspect because they're not in high demand, stores will only get them in if you order them.
Also I think it's safe to say both The Incredible Journey and The Moon-Spinners will have the open matte fullscreen presentations.
All the art available I have posted, I will post more as soon as I get it.
It was my intention to get these DVDs on Monday and check the ratios, but as i say nowhere had them. But I have already emailed Disney on Monday to check the ratios but am still awaiting a reply.

I don't think Luke will forget that Calloway Family - for all the wrong reasons.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

These 2 movies come out on Monday, July 17th:

I would so appreciate it if anybody over in the UK could report back to us the specs on these DVD's. I'm crossing my fingers that they are both in 16x9 widescreen and that "Follow Me, Boys" is the complete 131 min. cut (though of course PAL speed up would make it more like 125 min.)

The quality is very good in fact. Clear and nice picture for mostly all the film. However I don´t now the basic in TV/DVD/Video-technic to say if it´s enhanced or not... Sorry!Poppins#1 wrote:Hooray for that! I love the British! How's the quality? Is it 16:9 enhanced?Chernabog wrote:I have bought The Incredible Journey and it is in Widescreen.

Well the official word from the BVHE UK customer relations department is this:
The Incredible Journey 1:78:1 widescreen
Summer Magic 1:78:1 widescreen
The Moon- Spinners 1:85:1 Widescreen
Although as I haven't yet had a chance to check these DVDs for myself apart from TIJ there's still no certainty whether that info is actually correct. Also we still don't know if they're 16X9 enhanced.
It's taken a week for us to get this info, so I don't expect we'll have any news about family band or Follow Me until next Monday!

According to the sites I have been looking to for information, they state Follow Me Boys running time as 116 min, so that is obviously NOT the complete version. Stick with the Fullscreen Version in US if it turns out to be in Widescreen in UK!Poppins#1 wrote:These 2 movies come out on Monday, July 17th:

Believe me, I've Googled these titles to death on the internet, and the only info I could come up with was the 116m running time. But that could be mis-information put out by Disney (let's hope). If it does turn out to be the shortened version in the correct aspect ratio, that will be quite a delimma. Since the U.S. version is definitely NOT open-matte (the image is cropped), which would be worse? A cropped image or a slightly edited down version?Chernabog wrote:According to the sites I have been looking to for information, they state Follow Me Boys running time as 116 min, so that is obviously NOT the complete version. The Shaggy Dog is probably the same as the U.S. version, but without the extras.ichabod wrote:Prepare yourselves! This is freakin' scary!
At least it's black and white, but not a bonus feature in sight!![]()
However the rear cover strangely states 1:78:1 widescreen!![]()
It's full frame, probably an open matter transfer.
As usual, Disney is being inconsistent again, giving us widescreen with "Incredible Journey" and "Moon-spinners", then full-frame with "Follow Me, Boys"!!!
The U.S. version of FMB is NOT open-matte, it's definitely cropped. I was so hoping they would correct this mistake in region 2, but alas, I've been let down again.

Well Poppins#1 I have 2 pieces of information which will probably excite you!
1. I have the UK edition of Follow Me Boys! in front of me and confirm that it is the complete version, with a PAL runtime of 126 mins.
2. Well the film is not in widescreen, but it does appear to be an open matte transfer with more picture than the R1, for example:
Screencap from Luke's R1 review

screencap from UK DVD

edit: it also looks as though the R2 image is sharper and not as washed out as the R1.
As for Family band, the UK has almost an identical framing to the R1. I say almost because it's not identical.
Luke's review

UK DVD

If you look at the clump of leaves hanging down into shot in the top left hand corner you can see ever so slightly more in the UK version than in the R1.
I think that this is probably a slightly cropped version of the open matte image as there does not appear to be any major framing problems and there is lots of free space at the top and bottom of the picture.
Also in his review of the R1 copy Luke notes how the picture is awful, looks like a video master and is plagued with flaws. However the UK copy seems very clear and bright with only minor dust particles every now and then. Don't get me wrong, the print won't win any awards, but for an unrestored 40 year old film, it doesn't look that bad!
unfortunately it's missing the few bonus features the R1 has.

Thank you so much ichabod. Well at least Follow Me Boys got a new transfer. And you're right, the UK version looks to be open-matte. Even though I'd be much happier with widescreen, I do occasionally buy full-frame versions of movies if they are truly open-matte. And the colors look much richer in your screencaps compared to the review screencaps.
