Disney Awards Consideration Listings (Oscars, etc.)

Post by Jake Lipson »

Disney has put up its awards consideration web site and has put forward its big pictures of the year for numerous awards.

Here's a list of all of the movies I could find that they've put up for consideration and under which catagories. This list is NOT actulal Academy nominations, just what Disney is asking them (and other awards) to consider. Academy nominations are due January 27, I think, but don't quote me on that. Also, since there's a whole shebang of stuff up for consideration I only bothered to type up the stuff that was or will be released under the Disney name here. (TouchStone's Open Range, for example, was put up for lots of award consideration but I'm not listing that here.) To see what they've put up for consideration from their other branches, click on the link above. Anyway, here we go with the list.

PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBIAN is up for consideration under
- best picture
- best actor (Johny Depp)
- best supporting actor (Geffrey Rush)
- best director (Gore Verbinski)
- cinematography
- art direction
- film editing
- costume design
- makeup
- original score
- sound editing
- sound mixing
- visiual effects
- adapted screenplay (Adapted? From what? The theme park ride had no story, the screenplay was totally original.)

FINDING NEMO is up for
- best picture (
- animated feature (duh)
- director
- original screenplay
- cinematography
- film editing
- art direction
- original score
- sound editing

BROTHER BEAR is being contended for
- animated feature
- art direction
- film editing
- original score
- original song (Great Spirits, vocals Tina Turner, lyrics Phil Collins)
- original song (No Way Out, vocals and lyrics Phil Collins)
- sound editing
- sound mixing
- visiual effects
- original screenplay

Disney hopes FREAKY FRIDAY will be considered for
- best picture (comedy)
- best actress (Jamie Lee Curtis)

THE HAUNTED MANSION could scared up nominations for
- visiual effects
- art direction
- film editing
- costume design
- makeup
- music (original score)
- sound editing
- sound mixing

---Other---
PIGLET'S BIG MOVIE: original song (THe More I Look Inside), Carly Simon.
- HOLES, best adapted screenplay
- James Cameron's GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS (IMAX 3-D), Best Doccumentary.
- DESTINO, Best Short Film.

I think that's pretty much all. While I'm not sure what kind of chances some of these have at some of their contended catagories, GOOD LUCK to all of the movies in their respective catagories (except Piglet's Big Movie.) Exciting year for awards, don't you think? What do you think these movies have a chance of being nominated for and/or winning?

Best Picture Comedy would be for the Golden Globes.

I'm really glad they're pushing more than one song from Brother Bear now. I liked Great Spirits, but I loved Phil's songs (the ones he sang). Still, I would rather they submit "On My Way" as well, but "No Way Out" is a heartfelt tune, and I really like it. So I'm not going to complain anymore. LOL. Here's hoping one (or, being very wishful, both) get in! And that the movie can win!

Brother Bear's score is beautiful, but I doubt it'll be nominated. Nemo's score, however, stands a superb chance not only of being nominated, I think, but of winning.

I really hope Brother Bear gets nominated for Animated Feature. I feel it will, but if there are only three spots (as I'm sure there will be), I'm a little nervous. I expect Nemo and Belleville to get in first. They're critical darlings. But I would think Bear would have the box office and the love to manage to hold onto the last position. I want to see it recognized.

Go Brother Bear! :)

on E! they talk about how Finding Nemo is in talks to get an academy nomination for best picture (which historically would be the first CGI film to be nominated for such an honor). if it gets up for that, can it still get a nomination for best animated feature? if it doesn't, then i really REALLY REALLY hope that brother bear gets it. i'm totally stoked for this film and feel that it is already earning a following.

A film can be nominated for Best Picture and Best Animated Feature, I'm certain. As Crouching Tiger was nominated for Best Picture and Best Foreign Film, and won Foreign Film (they were never going to give it BP, anyway; because it was foreign)...so I would think Animated Features could pull the double (though I don't think Nemo will). I'm certain. Otherwise, I don't think Disney would risk pushing it for BP...if it meant a good chance of missing out on Animated Feature.

Finding Nemo will win AF, I'm sure, but I wish Brother Bear would. I hope Brother Bear gets nominated. I would love to see it represented, at least. That would make me happy...that and nomination(s) for song, and maybe a win for song?
